This is truly a magical place - inspirational views, with rustic, cosy cabins (with Aveda spa products) and great wranglers/ staff. The focus is clearly on horse riding, the lack of tv/ wifi a welcome escape from the modern world (and if you really need it go to Moose).

The only let down is the food, which could be better and would not take much effort to significantly improve. Clearly there have made an effort to improve on previous year, but vegetables should be fresh and not over cooked, the chicken not rubbery, and deserted freshly made, not out of a packet.

DCTerry feedback of Sep 2011 says it all otherwise.

My husband and I travel extensively and usually stay at luxury accomodations. We wanted a true wilderness experience and booked a pack trip with Triangle X.

We were picked up at the airport and escorted to the ranch. The view of the Grand Tetons was breath taking. We were shown to our room, and told there was a cookout for dinner.

A Word About the Food
Although I would not qualify us as Foodies, we do like fine dining and our son is a chef. We found the food quite delicious and wholesome although nothing fancy. Yes, we had barbecue and beef, but the salads were fresh and fresh fruit was always available. The food was well prepared and you were always offered choices.

Pack Trip....Once in a Lifetime Experience
We were saddled up the next day and rode 7 hours into the wilderness. Around every turn was an incredible vista. We saw meadows full of wild flowers, streams and rivers, snow covered peaks and more. The horses were sure footed and allowed us to be passengers and sight seers.

We set up camp in a meadow. The guides took great care of us and cooked great meals. I will post photos later but the beauty of the place was beyond words. Even the sound of the wind in the trees, the river and the deep quiet at night refreshed the soul. We hiked and fished.

The Real Test
Unfortunately I had a bad bout of Altitude Sickness. The third day I awoke and my face was swollen, my eyes and the capillaries in my lids had burst. The guides radioed the ranch and decided to break camp and get us down and back to the ranch.

When we arrived back, they had a cabin prepared for us and gave us the use of a van so we could drive into town. Everyone showed care and concern and they accommodated us although our arrival back at the ranch was unexpected.

The Real Deal
That night we another campfire and the entertainment for the evening was a singing cowboy. It was John Turner, one of the owners and former Senator of WY. He told us some history, that the ranch had been in the family for 85 years. He sang some songs and ended with America the Beautiful...so fitting sitting in front of the purple mountains.

Horses
I own horses and know much about them. The horses at this ranch were all in good flesh (horseman's term for good weight and muscle). They were steady, sure footed and knew their jobs. Although I am a highly experienced rider, my husband had only ridden once before and his mount was perfect.

Special Place
This is a special place. Genuine, real hospitality and a real Western experience.

This was our first time at the Triangle X Ranch, and we spent a wonderful week there and will definitely return.

Highlights include:
-wonderful location with exceptional views of the Tetons
-great staff, especially the wranglers. The head wrangler, TJ, was superb
-excellent horses and riding trails
-fun events life square dancing night, cook-outs down by the river, campfire night, breakfast ride
-one of the best places for kids (age 5+) i can think of...kids all eat and play together all day long

Opportunities for Improvement/Things to know:
-the cabins are a bit on the rustic side, i.e. no TV's or phones, no blackout curtains on the windows, no hair dryers, no refrigerators, small beds, etc. Depending on how you look at it, this can be rustic charm or a little on the aged side. Given all of the outdoor activities, we looked at it as rustic charm and it didn't really impact our stay
-the food was just okay. Totally edible, especially given how hungry one gets being outdoors and riding horses all day, however it's far from gourmet and we ended up eating a few of our meals off-site at Dornans in Moose, Signal Hill to the north and Jackson to the south. Regulars said the food is much improved from the old days.

We took the two hour Grand Teton Float Trip and had a great time. It was reasonably priced when compared to other activities in the area. Our party was met at Moose Point by a young lady named Owen who was very polite, friendly and informative about the area. We travelled in their van with the boat in tow to the launching point ten miles up the Snake River in the Grand Teton National Park. You must bring a camera or video camera for this trip or you will be sorry. It will not get wet, you will not get wet, though jackets in the morning are highly recommended due to the moring cold air (even in warm July).

Our raft floated ten miles through the park and our guide Adam pointed out all of the wild life, Teton peaks, history and other interesting facts about the area. He very much enjopyed his job which added to the value of our experience. We saw lots of wildlife including many Eagles. The best part of the trip was the valuable information Adam provided us about the best places to see wildlife while hiking or from the car.

He indicated that the Antelope Flats area near Moose Point was the best place to see bisons and sure enough, when we drove out there after the raft trip, we found a large herd standing literally on the road.

I will recommend that you do the 7:30 AM trip. Yea, I know its tough getting up that early on vacation, but with the sun rising, your photos will be outstanding (with the sun behind you) going down the river, animals tend to feed in the morning and the morning air is very cool and comfortable. I would also have to think it's less crowded. Our trip had only one other family on the raft, so it was very quiet and pleasant. My son got a kick out of being allowed to steer the boat for a few minutes!

It is telling that we learned that 80% of Triangle X visitors are repeat guests! We went on the recommendation of old friends who had themselves been 3 times before. We loved the cabins with their stunning views of the Tetons and that the horses were so well cared for. Unlike a nearby ranch where the horses live in a shade-less corral resembling a feed lot for cattle, Triangle X horses are turned out every night onto a huge lush pasture. Watching the horse herd being brought up the long drive in the morning and returning at night was one of the highlights of the trip. Unlike some other reviewers in the past, we found the food to be wholesome and good. There was a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables & salads as well as the predictable hearty fare of a ranch.
Everyone there was friendly and welcoming. The wranglers were experienced and took great care of their rides. Many of them are college students who experienced the ranch as visitors during their childhood. We rode with John, TJ and Bill and enjoyed all 3. The horses were excellent - I am perplexed by one reviewer who said horses were ready for the glue factory. My husband and I are experienced riders but had not ridden regularly for many years. My husbands first day mount was a bit sluggish for him and his request for a more responsive horse was happily accommodated the next ride. These horses are sure footed, dependable and enjoy being ridden which makes riding them a joy! We did the float trip one afternoon and our guide Shawn was great, the scenery was stunning. We loved seeing wildlife up close on horseback - eagles, elk, prong horn mule deer and bison. Taking your rental car out on nearby roads in the evening is a great way to see more wild life. We just missed seeing a momma bear and 2 cubs and 2 wolves but did see a mink cross the road.
The only activity we sought off the ranch all week was a massage at Lost Creek Ranch - the massage therapists were very good and helped our stiff bodies recover from all the unaccustomed riding. (Unfortunately, seeing how their horses are kept is a little sad) .
We had a wonderful week with our friends dream of returning.

We have stayed at Triangle X Ranch with our extended family for one week per summer over the last 5 years. We love it, and can't wait to return each summer! There is truly no place more wonderful. Cabins are clean and well appointed, food is excellent (even better this year than last) and plentiful, scenery is breathtaking, and the horseback riding is second to none. This is not the lap of luxury, so if you are looking for that I would suggest the Four Seasons in Teton Village. Triangle X is wonderful ranch particularly if you are traveling with children or teens. They have a kids program and a teen program, which allows the kids and teens to hang out with kids of their own age and feel like they are at camp. I love it, because I am in my 30s and feel like I get to go to camp, too! The Turner family - Harold, Donald, and John, do a great job of running the ranch and taking any concerns very seriously. Got a bum horse? They'll change it for you (this happened to my daughter this year - not a problem - TJ, the head wrangler, changed her horse immediately). Need a special diet? I am gluten-free and they have no problem accommodating. Vegetarian/vegan/diary-free, etc - I have seen them provide meals for all and then some. Definitely take a Triangle X float trip down the Snake River - always a highlight of our trip and a great way to see animals. Triangle X fishing trips are also great - they know the best spots depending upon the weather and season. It's also not far from Yellowstone so you can do a day trip.
Our highlights:
breakfast ride to Spencer's mountain
kids swim in the snake river - they ride their horses down and swim while the horses graze
all-day ride
first night cookout
float trip
Really, you must go at least once!

My husband and I have been fortunate enough to travel the world extensively. We always say we will not go back to the same place twice because there is so much to see. But Triangle X is the only place we return to time and time again. It is like going home. The people, the Tetons, the horses, wildlife, and hospitality. It is just magical.
We just returned from our fourth visit and we can't wait to go back.
