Reviewed 5 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Creekside Chalet. It was perfect for my husband and I. We felt at home the minute we walked in the door. Very clean, private, secluded, yet close to all that Gatlinburg has to offer. We will be back!!!

Elk Springs Resort was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The cabin was clean, spacious, and more lovely than the pictures. Even though it was cold and rainy, the cabin had something to keep everyone entertained during our 4 day stay. Downtown Gatlinburg was an extra bonus, if you like quaint and touristy and good gourmet apples. The aquarium is one of the best we've ever been to and we've been to many. We plan to return next year.

These cabins are truly awesome. The pictures you see on the website are exactly what you will get in the cabin. Easy check in and easy check out. Perfect for families of all sizes or for a couple's retreat. I highly recommend this place. We will be going back for sure.

Excellent experience with a 1-bedroom cabin rented from Elk Springs Resort. Perfectly situated in the mountains with a stunning view, just like in the photos. The cabin itself was beautiful, spacious, and extremely well stocked with kitchen utensils, entertainment (large TV in living room, 2 smaller TVs in bedroom and upstairs floor, foosball table, pool table, etc.), and furniture (hot tub on deck was key!) Extremely comfortable and relaxing, and the staff was so accommodating - replaced a couple items (toaster, grill tongs) right away when we called to say they were broken). I checked a lot of cabin rental places before going for this one and I really think I got the best value, especially for the price! Would definitely rent from Elk Springs again if I return to the area - it was a wonderful vacation!

Room Tip: We stayed in Smoky Sunrise, near the top of the available cabins - great choice!

My new husband and I traveled to Mountain Bliss for our week long respite from the excitement of our wedding and his graduation from medical school. We spent our days relaxing in the home theater, watching the sunset on the deck, chatting in the hot tub, and playing HOURS of games in the game room. Once we arrived, we never needed to leave. The home is well appointed and secluded which was precisely what we had hope for. We cannot wait to return for vacation later this year!

Lots of things come to mind.

RESERVATIONS:
We booked the "Eagle's Dream" cabin about 5 weeks in advance of our arrival in mid May. During the on-phone reservation process, the lady I spoke with was very upbeat, cheerful, and pleasant to discuss the reservation and answer my questions. I forgot her name. I did not feel rushed on the phone as she took all the time needed to answer my questions. Her explanations and choices were clear and concise. She also offered the advertised discount for our special situation.

ARRIVAL:
On the morning of our arrival, I received a phone call with the door code and alarm code just as promised. Due to a massive screw-up by United Airlines, we were not able to arrive at our cabin until about 3:00 am (8 hours late), and we were very concerned about not being able to get in the cabin in the middle of the night. Fortunately, there were no issues. The door code and alarm code worked just as they said it would, and both were easy to operate. The only minor difficulty we had was that the keypad on the alarm was not lighted and we could not quickly find the light switch in the dark, so we used our cell phone light to see the alarm keypad. Not a problem, just something to keep in mind.

CLEANLINESS:
Our cabin seemed to be relatively new and spotlessly clean on the inside. All appliances were in top notch shape. There was a nice selection of dishes and cookware, and there were plenty of towels in each of the bathrooms to last for our 8 days of stay.

We were a bit disappointed with cleanliness on the outside of the cabin. The front porch chairs and deck clearly had not been cleaned in quite some time. They aren't shiny clean like in the photos. We wondered how we would clean them because we can't use the towels as that would mess them up. We did not see any way to clean the chairs, so we didn't even use them. Yes, we realize we are in a wooded area that can get dirty, but we think those items should be wiped off before a new guest arrives, or at least once a week.

The spa cover was also terribly dirty. By having had a similar outdoor spa and cover at a previous home of ours, I can fairly judge how often it needs to be cleaned. I'd estimate this cover had not been cleaned in at least a month. The issue is when removing the cover to get in the spa, some dirt can get in, and we noticed many spider webs all around it, so that bothered the wife. She wasn't really enjoying the spa and she was constantly distracted to look for spiders and bugs. In summary, it seems that outside cleaning of the chairs and deck is not a regular part of the cleaning process.

GOT BUGS?
I'll preface this with a reminder that you are in the woods, so a certain amount of tiny critter activity is expected. It was important to keep the kitchen sink and counter clear of food because there are ants the size of a car (ok, the size of your little fingernail) that will quickly invade the place. Often we saw other strange little millipede critters moving around on the floor. I'm sure it is hard to entirely eradicate a mountain cabin of such pest even with regularly spraying. It was not a nuisance, but didn't bother the wife a bit when seeing them occasionally.

AMENITIES:
The WiFI connection was easy to connect and fast. TV cable offered many good channels. It was nice to have the free long distance phone as our cell service was spotty at times although you can make a cell connection. The air hockey game was broken, but we didn't care much about it anyway. The pool table felt was just slightly worn from a little abuse of prior guests, yet it was fun to use and did not distract from our pool games. The stairs leading down to the lower level bedroom and game room might be a little tricky for an older couple as the steps are not as lengthy as typical, but not a problem. We were just more careful walking down. The spa was always heated to a nice temperature (adjustable), even upon arrival. Dual air conditioning and heating for the upper and lower levels was a great convenience for separate guests.

The son and I slept really well on the beds. The wife said she wished she had brought her own pillow and the ones provided were too soft and didn't support her head. She rolled up towels to sleep on for more support. If you like soft beds, then these are fine. We like more firm mattresses for better back support, thus we did not like these particular one although they didn't cause any issue for us. Just not what we are used to sleeping on.

LOCATION:
This was a little bit of an annoyance to us. I reviewed the location with Google map and looked at it on Google Earth in advance and knew that the cabin was on a country road outside of town and I saw some comments from other reviewers about the tricky private road up the hill to the cabin, but until being there, it is hard to realize the steep curvy road getting up to the cabin from the main street. This could be a problem in the winter with snow. A car must be parked right in front of the cabin where there is little run to turn around (tricky getting out). There is no specific car parking space. Also there was the inconvenience we had to travel to the tourist spots we visited daily in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

The advertisement indicates the cabin is approximately 8 minutes from Elk Springs Resort (thus not being on the main properly), but more importantly, it discretely does not mention that it is much farther from central parts of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Force activities. The site video says "minutes from Gatlinburg". Yes, 20 of those minutes, not a few as might be inferred. Probably closer to Dollywood.

Plan on driving the speed limit into town because of the winding roads and the cops who seemed to have someone pulled over to the side of the road on practically every day we went into town. Fortunately we were not one of their suckers. Also, my best advice is to stay on the main roads and ignore those dangerous tight shortcut roads that weave through the country and likely will be recommended by a GPS unit in your car.

VIEW:
The advertisement accurately states most everything about this cabin including the view. Thus, there is no view except of the woods, so if you like a bit of seclusion, then this is the cabin for you. It's quiet and peaceful.

SUMMARY:
Overall, this was a nice cabin and very pleasant stay for us. The ONLY reason we debated not giving this 5 stars was because of the more remote locate from typical activities of the area, and the rather dirty outside deck, chairs, and spa cover. We personally will not stay at this cabin or similar ones in this area in the future, although we will likely stay at another location with Elk Springs Resort in the future that that is closer to town.

Room Tip: Suggest selecting an Elk Springs Resort property that is closer to activities in Pigeon Forge, Dolly...

You must book now!! Don't wait! IT is amazing. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave its just the most beautiful cabin you will ever rent. We stayed in the "Snuggled Inn" and couldn't have been happier. There was a hot tub outside, AND a jacuzzi inside. A FULL kitchen, 2 living rooms and even a pool table and more! It was super clean and like brand new. Not too far from downtown Gatlinburg and just overall a great find!! Worth every penny!
