We stayed at the Sidney James in early July 2005. I would have to say that overall we were not impressed. We stayed there once before, a few years ago and had a jacuzzi room. We remembered it as being a fairly nice place but their standard room leaves much to be desired. The motel needs a major overhaul to keep it current with the standards set by many of the areas lodges and motels. Our bathroom was extremely tiny and we had trouble getting the commode to flush and fill back up. The sink had to be located directly in the room since the bathroom is so small, it is surrounded by outdated wood laminate which takes up a lot of space, that you really need in the room itself. The furniture, to be polite, is reminiscent of yard sale mark downs and the carpet is long past its prime. The rooms themselves were clean and the creek was nice to hear at night, though the balcony is miniscule and the railings are set far enough apart that our 5 year old got his head stuck in them for a moment. No problems with any of the staff; but the outside of the hotel is not very clean, none of the windows have been cleaned this decade, I don't think and the place needs a good paint job and some new roofing. The parking is not a lot of fun either. The indoor pool and cave- like, hot tub are nice, though could use more greenery and landscaping and some slides for fun. The adjacent bathrooms, to the indoor pool, are completely neglected. No continental breakfast offered, even though the price is equal or more than many in the area that do, some of them are quite well stocked such as the fairfield north we also stayed at on this trip for less money (but they booked up before we could extend our stay.) We did not try the on site cafe. Had a cute picnic area but dust on the ceiling fans was so deep, I'm surprised they worked. Did not smell any mold like some guests but all in all, I'll have to say, we will pass on the Sidney our next trip.

The room was clean and service was good. We enjoyed the balcony over the creek and loved to crack the window and listen to the water as we fell asleep. Parking was a problem when returning back after a day of sightseeing. Was not impressed with the "cafe". It had a very limited menu and very costly. We didn't realize that the Holiday Inn next door had such a nice restaurant and snack area until the last night we were there or we would have frequented it instead. Probably the first hotel I've ever stayed that did not offer a continental breakfast. It was convenient to the downtown area, however the walk back to the hotel was uphill and very tiring after a long day of walking. I suggest you take the shuttle back to the hotel. The stop is right in front of the hotel. Don't think I would stay here again, but it serviced our needs on this trip. The hotel behind us was rather noisy with children playing on the playground until after midnight. We did not hear noise from the Sydney James. The shower had a massaging shower head which was wonderful after a full day of walking. Felt it was a little costly for the amenities, but you are in the heart of Gatlinburg.

Awful, Awful, Awful! I donot recommend this hotel to anyone! The room had a musty smell and everything was filthy! Including the towels!!! The service was terrible too! I wish we would have found this site before leaving on our trip, but now all we can do is warn others! Please listen to this good advice: Don't stay at the Sidney James Mountain Lodge!

My stay at Sidney James Moutnain Lodge was Terrible!! This place is NASTY!! The rooms smelled moldy and mold was growing in the grout in the bathroom. The shower was disgusting!!The knobs were falling off the shower which made it a pain in the butt to take a shower!!!
The room leaked the whole time we were there. The knobs on the dresser were broke so you had to place your hands under the drawers to open them up!!!The carpets were nasty. The room was awful and had such an odor to it that my wife bought a candle and candle warmer to make it tolerable to stay in!! The spa had so much chlorine in it that it turned blonde's hair green and faded out your swimwear!!
Don't waste your money at this place you will be greatly disappointed..
It is cheaper to stay in Pigeon Forge and most of the main attractions are in Pigeon Forge.

we got a creekside balcony room and our stay was really good. yes, you do have to walk up an awful hill and the little cafe' was not dependable or very good. They had to keep fixing the outside pool and shutting us out almost every day we were there. The room was very clean and up to date, no bugs seen in a whole week there and no noise from any room or outside. I would love to try a suite of rooms there for any future stays but we did get a great deal so all in all it was a nice place to stay.
