“Great Location - Great Views - Great Resort”
Reviewed 15 July 2011

There is a reason this is one of Bluegreen's most popular resorts. It lies virtually in the Smoky Mountains and offers great views from several of its buildings. We stay at Mountain Loft at least twice a year.

The resort has a phase 1 and a phase 2. There are many different style units. The two bedroom units some of which require separate entrances and no connection -great for adults, not so great for a family with young children if that is your case avoid building 8. Some units have decks while others just have a glass patio with a gate across it (so no patio at all). Be smart and ask those questions when you book the unit.

The resort has a policy that all rooms must be ready by 4:00. Sometimes they have cut it close and the room isn't ready untl 4:00, but in 10 years we have never gotten our room after 4:00 . It can be frustrating when we pull into town at 11:00, call ahead and say we are in town can we move in early, but the room isn't ready. We just leave our phone number for them to call us when it's ready. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't.

One reviewer complained about being too close to the pool and hearing noise. We often stay in building 11 and never have had pool noise problems. The pool is too far away from that. Another reviewer commented that the pool was too far from the building (8) to walk. I don't agree with that either. I walk all over this resort. There are some steep hills around the resort property (remember I stated the resort is virtually in the Smoky Mountains), but they have never stopped our family from getting from place to place.

The entrance to the resort can be quite tricky. It is just around a bend and coming and going from the resort onto 321 (as cars zip past) can be a bit tricky.

Great hiking up highway 321 with Greenbrier (entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park). Be sure and visit the Sugarland Visitor's Center for the National Parks and pick up a $5.00 map packet (best value). It has day hikes, waterfall hikes, auto touring maps in it, and more. Also pick up a newspaper the national park system prints with listings of all the FREE Ranger led activities while you are there. You can even watch a video of the history of the National Park.

Be sure and visit Cades Cove (the most visited part of the National Park). It takes a good hour to get there from the resort and a good hour to an hour and a half (depending on bear jams) since it is a one way road to do the entire thing. Great to bring a picnic lunch for the day and kill a day at Cades Cove.

Actually, I would say a resort weakness is that they don't promote the park system enough or at all. The concierge has/sells show tickets, but not any park information.

Security is present at the entrance at night so you have to have your tag in the window to show them. That can be tricky as the security house is right after you enter from that tricky turn.

There is a free computer to use at the club house if you just want to check your e-mail for 15 minutes each day. If you have AT&T for your wireless provider, just bring your information along with you and you get the Internet for free in your room or anywhere you may be on property with your laptop since AT&T is Bluegreen's wireless provide (that's true for any Bluegreen Resort). If not, the resort does charge a daily fee for wireless Internet.

There is a store and gas station just one block past the resort up Highway 321 so if you forget something and don't want to run to Wal-Mart in Pigeon Forge it's a close stop.

As far as as the sales presentations go there is no pressure to do the tour. However, if we go we realize it will take 2 hours of our time. We just weigh the "gift" against our time/length of stay to determine if it's worth it.

In short, great location, great rooms with views, and a very busy place to be in July and August.. That's why we prefer April - fewer crowds!

We spent a week at Mt Loft in July 2011, it was in the mid 90s all week. When we arrived at the posted check in time of 4pm were told our room was not ready. My husband and I waited for two hours with 3 children until the room keys were turned over to us. I admit we were hot and tired from the travel but it doesn't change the fact that the room wasn't clean. There was peanuts on the carpet near the wall, if vaccuumed it must of been just in the center of the room. A soft drink remained from previous tennants in the refrigerator. Of course, after travel time and a two hour wait, we hit the restroom. Yuck! It smelled like it had been recently used and the shower had pink shave cream with a long black hair on the wall. The tiles are white and the grout is white and there are spots of black mold in many places. Ceiling above the shower also has mold spots. The shower head is so weak that it is like taking a shower under a garden spigot. It takes twice as long to shower because the water drips out so weakly that you can't even wet your entire body at once. We concluded it was turned down because the drain is slow, if the water came out normally the tub would overflow before a shower could be completed.

The water was shut off for several hours one day of our stay. Despite having a phone message system, we were not notified. After a morning of shopping we returned to find we did not have water in the unit. We called the front desk to find out they had had a water line break and the water was off and they didn't know when it would be back on. Again, we were not notified when it was working, we just kept going to the faucet and turning it on. One afternoon, we are watching a movie and the empty dishwasher turned itself on and water began running out the base of it. Maintainance came quickly and cleaned the mess, he said it had been dripping for a long time because the kitchen tiles were loose and he glued them back down.

As I said the outdoor temperatures was in the 90s all week. On four days of our stay we had to call maintaince because our room temperature was in the 80s. The first day the came they said it was a dirty filter, the second day the outdoor compressor, the third day a loose wire and the fourth day the called the A/C specialist who worked on it. All in all, we had 15 visits from the maintaince crew, trying to get the air conditioning operable.

The outdoor pool opens at 9AM, we took our children down at 9am on Saturday morning of our stay to find the pool so cloudy you couldn't see the bottom. The towel hampers were overflowing with towels from Friday and the restrooms had not been cleaned. We obviously assumed that the cloudy pool with floating insects had not been cleaned either. We unloaded our belongings and waited to see if the pool would clear up since it was 9AM, thinking maybe it was on a timer. At 9:15AM, it was apparent it was just dirty and no one cared. I used the phone near the restrooms to call the desk. The young lady who answered the phone was rude. She told me that maintaince would clean the pool when they could, they were busy with other guests. It would be at least 20 minutes before they could arrive. I asked her how long it would take the pool to be cleaned after they arrived, explaining that if it would be 45 minutes or longer before it was safe to enter the pool we would just move to the clubhouse. She said, I don't know, I told you they are busy. It made me very angry to be spoken to so rudely. I retorted back, why wasn't it cleaned by 9AM, that is the posted opening time. Again, she said I don't know. I walked back to tell my husband what was said and three maintaince workers walked up with a skimmer and a bottle of chemicals. One poured the chemicals in the pool, one skimmed the bugs and the other went into the mechanical room. When he came out of that room he said madam, this pool was cleaned early this morning it is cloudy because it was back-washed. I asked him how long before it would be safe to allow the kids in. Right now he said and they left. We were not comfortable letting them in so quickly after the chemicals were poured in. We waited 20 minutes. As we swam and played we thought the water was rising in the pool, but with people splashing around it was clear. When 2 hours had past, it was extremely obvious, as the water was over the sides of the pool and flowing around our feet at the lawn chairs. We called the front desk again and let them know. The additional water was so cold, the kids couldn't stand it so we left. We decided to take them back later in the evening and the water was still overflowing the pool, the concrete pad and down the hillside. Oddly, the next morning, the pool was at the posted heights and clear as drinking water.

One last point, I needed internet access for my job. The "resort" does not offer free wifi!! It cost $30 to have the internet on my laptop for the week but the children couldn't use it on their ipods. The resort doesn't have wifi but most of the $40/night hotels in Pigeon Forger does! ??? It costs $500 a year to owners for their maintaince fee in addition to the tens of thousands they have paid to be owners and they charge for internet????

I strongly advise against investing your money in this property, even if it is only for a weekend. The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is stocked full of places to stay - choose one of them instead!

Room Tip: My tip for getting the best room is to stay somewhere else.

We had "won" a 3 day 2 night vacation with the side note of listening to their 60-70 minute timeshare presentation. Decided to try it - then the extra fee's began. We have a family of 6 so they said they didn't have room we would have to upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. So I paid extra for that...when we finally got there we were in 2 different rooms! Now seriously why would I put my small children (11,10 & 8 along with my nephew who is 16) in a seperate room? It was NOT what they described. Very small & smelled - we were on the 5th floor - only one elevator that had trouble working. The pool was quite a trek away so we didn't even use it. Then we went to the presentation - 3 HOURS LATER we finally left!! What a joke! They totally kept beating us over the head when we would say that it would not work. We checked out a day early and went to my Uncle's place at Wyndham. MUCH BETTER!!

This is our second Blue Green resort property we have visited and I was so excited because of the absolutely beautiful Hammocks resort in Marathon Florida was so very nice. This resort is also very beautiful. The resort is nestled in beautiful Smoky Mountain hills: it really is beautful. Plenty of parking available. Three pools: 2 outdoor and 1 indoor/outdoor. Our unit 1141 was absolutely beautiful: had a fireplace, a balcony adjoined to the living room and bedroom and a hugh king size bed and jacuzzi tub. The unit was clean and gorgeous. Now to the disappointing reviews: the unit is located in the fourth floor far end toward one of the outdoor pools: there is ALOT of pool noise throughout the entire day: I would suggest that one pool be designated adult only. Secondly, starting between 730am-830am there was constant high heel noise of someone walking in the unit on the floor above. It was constant and the clicking of the heels never let up and it sounded like the Clydesdale horses going throughout the day. When we asked the blonde twit with the pink arm cast her response and the 6 inche heels she was wearing "it is only between 830am-430pm": well no excuse for poor customer service: wear flats you bimbo. Management needs to respect that fact that this is a vacation "resort" and not everyone wants to be up early in the morning with the constant clicking of heels. Other then those two issues: the property is beautiful and magnificantly maintained as long as you have a different unit.

My family and I stayed at this hotel for a family vacation in 2010. Overall the room itself was nice. However, we had a terrible night with our "neighbors" who were staying in the room next to ours. These "neighbors" were undoubtedly inebriated and were making very loud "noises" for all hours into the night. To make a long story short and to keep this story clean the walls are very thin. We complained several times by telephone to the front desk but the actions only escalated every time we complained. If my family was not on this trip with us, my husband and I would have checked out in the middle of the night and left for home. It was the worst hotel experience we have ever been involved in.

Great place to stay, nice and quiet. We stayed in unit 811 which is just a 1 bedroom but how much time do you REALLY spend in the room? Us, not much. Staff was great and the grounds are beautiful. This is where we will continue to stay when we come to Gatlinburg.

We have stayed here multiple times while attending a football tournament over Thanksgiving. Rooms do need a bit updating but are kept and clean. The two bedroom is plenty big for our family of five and having a full size kitchen keeps out cost down for eating out. The grocery is less than a 1/4 mile from the resort and parking garage is just down the hill for when visiting the strip. I have always had good service and suitable accommodations at this location. Being a Bluegreen owner I would recommend this location. The most exciting part of this trip is we have seen bears many many times. They are all around this complex and come out to feed at the dumpsters and on peoples trash that they leave outside their villas. Always a fun trip and we are returning this fall again :)
