No complaints from our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. Got a room with a fire place, nice. Watched the steam rise from the outside hot tub while relaxing alone one morning. Well equipped gym, but the mats provided could have been thicker. The breakfast omelet prepared the last morning was one of the tastiest I have experienced – they ought to give the breakfast cook a raise. When we return next December/January to Gatlinburg, this will be the place we stay.

I picked this hotel based on other reviews here, but it was really nothing above average for our stay.
It does have a great location with a nice small lobby. Food for dinner was good with friendly restaurant staff in am/pm. And it is a clean hotel with friendly housekeeping staff. Front desk staff were ok, but not overly helpful.
During checkin I realized we did not have a balcony, so I requested one. Hotel was full, but front desk said we could be moved during our week stay if something opened up. I saw LOTS of people checking out, but we were never offered any other room. Also, our room did not have directory with basic hotel information like room service menu, etc so I requested one from front desk. I was told they were out...huh? Why would they not have one for every room? So we were never able to order room service or know any details about hotel unless we asked specific questions. I was constantly having to go to/call front desk for basic info... hours of pool, laundry facilites, etc., etc. etc. Very annoying.
From reading other reviews, I expected so much more from this hotel. It was just another average hotel. Not sure what others are comparing it to, to give it 5 stars.

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn during the first week of April 2012. The lobby and restaurant have a fresh, modern look to it. Our room had a “sleep-number”-type bed, a balcony and a fireplace. I know rooms on the other side of the building do not have balconies – but I thought it was worth the extra cost to have one (we spent several mornings and late evening out on the balcony). Front desk people were top notch – quickly handling any issue we had. The facility had an indoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, a fire pit area and a nice exercise room (they did not have towels two of the mornings in the exercise room but a quick trip to the front desk took care of that issue). The only complaint we had was with the maid service. While very friendly, the maid staff forgot to clean our room on one day and, on another they, only did a “touch-up” of the room (not replacing empty toilet paper, cleaning out the sink, etc.). We found out later that a few of the maid staff were new - - so, maybe, we just got some of the rookies that week.

The staff, in general, was very friendly. This hotel is in a great location - - only a 4-5 minute walk to the main strip. They do have a restaurant and we ate there one night. We split three appetizers and had two sodas - - it was around $33 with taxes- - it was very tasty and it was a lot of food (we took leftovers up to our refrigerator in our room). They offer a breakfast similar to what you would get in an Embassy Suites but it costs $10 a person.

I will definitely consider coming back to the Garden Inn – mainly for the location, exercise room and the staff (especially the front desk staff).

Bathroom light not working upon arrival. Did not fix. Some sort of banging on the wall, day and night. I expect it was steam pipes. Asked for room swap but no availability. The bottom of the pool on the deep end cut my son's toes twice. I reported this but no attempt was made to find out what was happening. Two other children had bloody feet. No coffee in the room on the second day so I got my own instant. Three stir sticks, used one. The rest were removed along with the creamer and sweeteners and not replaced for the remainder of my stay. The grout in the bathroom was a bit dirty. This is not what I expect from a Hilton hotel, or any hotel for that matter in this price range. The only thing that went smoothy was the billing for the room. This is the first negative experience I have had at this hotel. It is typical of hotels in busy places that they get a bit run down so no worries going back , but I will be looking around for alternatives. It is still one of the nicest, if not the nicest hotels in Gatlinburg. I just hope they stay on top of things...and put in another restroom!

Room Tip: You'll need to stay away from the second floor. The door openers, steam pipes for heat exchanger...

Dear Bill D,

Thank you for your review on your recent stay with us. First allow me to apologize for the pool issue and also for your room concerns. Upon a concern reported recently about a child's toe getting cut in the pool I personally reported it to maintenance who then checked the pool and vacuumed the bottom. Your room concerns will certainly be passed on to our Executive Housekeeper, because it is not Hilton standards and will be addressed. We hope the next time you visit the Great Smoky Mountains you give us another chance to prove our loyalty to you. Thank you again.

We stayed here for one night as part of our 25th anniversary 'road trip', and the hotel, location and staff is excellent!

Being our anniversary, they upgraded us to a Jr suite on the top floor of the river side, with a balcony overlooking the river and mountains. This was probably our favorite hotel of the entire trip, which included 7 hotels in 8 nights.

They had a very nice indoor pool, and the hot tub was just outside within full view of the pool, in case the adults wanted to bask in the hot tub while the kids were in the pool, They also had a 'firepit' near the hot tub, making for a very nice outdoor evening under the stars in Gatlinburg.

I read reviews about having to go thru the garage to get to the main street, which is probably quicker, and not difficult or dangerous in any way, but you can also just walk out the front of the hotel and turn left or right and walk along the river and take the first street you come to in either direction to get back to the main drag. We preferred this way, as it was far more pleasant and scenic, and only took an extra couple minutes.

The location off the main street was great, as there was much construction on the main street, so being off the main street on our serene riverside location was that much nicer. This is a great hotel and location, with friendly, attentive staff is has to be among the best choices in Gatlinburg.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the river/mountain side on an upper floor.
