We vacation in Gatlinburg frequently, and stopping in the Craft community is always great. You never know what wonderful treasure you may find!

The Arts and Crafts Loop in Gatlinburg is a great way to see a variety of handcrafts, many exclusive to the area. There are maps available as this is an 8 mile loop, with little shops of all kinds along the way. You drive and stop at those you are interested in. We did find several that either empty or closed at the time we were there. Since this wasn't our first time, we knew what we wanted to see and went to those places first, then just meandered and stopped as we wanted. It's a great way to spend a day or less in the Smokies.

There many stores on the 11-mile trip (in your own car.) The best way to see what you want is to get the map and choose the ones you want to see most, otherwise you will start wandering and not get to the ones you want to see before they close. The map, while informative, had many stores that had gone out of business or were closed. The numbering system was a great idea, outside each store, but the numbers were often missing or wrong. The "community" needs to reprint an updated map much more often.

The variety of stores is good for what most people are looking to buy in an arts and crafts community. I wish there would have been more stained glass, and maybe another dulcimer maker in the mix. Some of the buildings that housed the stores could use some TLC. A couple of the vendors either didn't speak to us at all (we were the only two people in the entire store), or were short with answers (the store was not busy at all). Most items we looked at seemed a little high priced, and the quality of most things offered was average compared to other places we've been. I'll probably check this route of my list of things to do.

Interesting community of arts and crafts. First time doing this. We did this on a Sunday and unfortunately, lots of places were closed. We weren't aware of this and I don't think the brochure made mention of this (it may have but we didn't notice). Other than many places being closed on Sunday, it was good to visit those that were open. We would recommend doing this on any other day.
