“Fun for family & pets”
Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

We stayed at this resort along with our two dogs for a couple of nights. It was a little dated, cramped, and in desperate need of some better grounds maintenance. That said, it had plenty of activities for the whole family. It is conveniently located near all the attractions and restaurants in the Gatlinburg area and provides friendly competent service. There are newer units that we will probably check out in the near future.

I had quite an enjoyable time, I would recommend going during a slow time, and avoid peak times. The staff was amazing, very friendly.

I am a perfectionist so here is my review:

The build quality of the rooms was impressive, although the 2nd shower door was missing some hardware (which made it leak) and the tile needed to be re-grouted. The beds were a tad firm but useable. I tried 10 grills near my cabin, and the electric igniter was broken on all but 1 (they are the 1st to go on grills, so guests should be provide with a lighter chained to each grill..just loop it through the propane tank chain). The staff was amazing from the time share sales managers down to the garbage guy who fixed my grill and lit it immediately even though it was not his job.

A few things need to be addressed if I were to consider ownership or stay during peak times:

-for cabins 460+, should have some stair cases to the top and they should add some sort of sky (ski) lift to the top...it would pay for itself in the cost of fuel on all the extra shuttle buses as well as cut down on the clogged road / parking issues...access to the new pool on top / zip line

-The road at the bottom before the gate needs to be widened, too crowded, this will only be compounded from future expansion. A secondary gate should be added for guests (not just service vehicles), print a barcode on the parking passes and scan it to get in..etc...some people ask for directions, etc. at the main gate and it takes 5+ mins...clogs traffic up.

Room Tip: Get a top floor unit, go during non-peak times, if peak, get a upper cabin where there is more parki...

We stayed at Westgate Resort in mid-April. 1 bedroom villa. We were pleasantly surprised with the resort. When you need a pet-friendly place to stay, the accommodations are not always so nice. They charge a steep fee for a pet, but it is worth it for the next guest to come into a place as clean as ours was. The staff was friendly and helpful. The blow dryer in our unit did not work but they had a new one up to us and installed in 15 or 20 minutes. Not quite sure what the resort fee is for as you pay for all extras like the activities and the water park. We had two teen girls with us - the water park ended up being a little too "young" for them. Next time we will not purchase tickets for it so maybe it is good that it is a separate charge. Nice furnishings. The kitchen was fully equipped. The bedroom with two beds was a little tight, but I was happy to give up a little space for the washer and dryer in the unit. Wonderful jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower. Conveniently located to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

From the time we came to the resort, it was nothing but wonderful. We went to registration and it was smooth as it could be. The room was great for me and my wife. We stayed a whole week and it was just wonderful. The upstairs people were alittle noisy, but it's a resort for families, what do you expect? It was awesome.

We were 3 of us from San Jose , CA and we really enjoyed our stay at WestGate. The place was nice and sparkling clean. We had beautiful views and overall the place was well furnished.
It was a great value for the price being charged. You might hear the neighbors sounds here and there a little bit, but that was not an annoyance at all.

While the staff is quite friendly and the outside of this resort is breathtaking, the interior is very dated. Our appliances were not in the best shape; the dishwasher was leaking all over the floor.

The walls are very thin so the noise is pretty loud from one residence to the next given the peaceful exterior. In the middle of our first night, I could hear someone next door snoring followed by our neighbor vacuuming at 7 a.m the next morning.

Also, the staff do not make up the rooms each day so we went two days without fresh towels. That was not expected. When I asked for new towels, I found them that afternoon, in a plastic bag dropped on our kitchen floor! Oooookay.

Wouldn't stay here again given the price paid. Low value.

Room Tip: Not really sure there are good rooms at this property.

We’re sorry to hear you had a less than desirable stay. Your concerns will be forwarded to management so that we can further improve on any issues brought to our attention. Because we are a timeshare resort, our room service operates differently from a regular hotel. However, our housekeeping staff will be more than happy to provide you with supplies if requested. We appreciate this opportunity to improve, and will work to exceed your expectations on your next visit.

Sincerely,
Idalise

Reviewed 24 April 2014

We had the most wonderful time of our lives here. My hubby and I, along with our 2 children stayed here for one week during spring break 2014. We were in a two bedroom villa, which was amazing. My husband and I had our own suite, full kitchen, dinning area, living room with a fire place and large tv, and a large bedroom with a king sized bed and tv. The bed was so soft and there were lots of pillows. There was a pull out couch. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need to run a kitchen, the only thing missing was a pizza cutter LOL. We had a nice back deck with a table and chairs, however, there were so many bees we did not spend much time out there. The "hot tub" in the bathroom is nothing more than a tub with jets, we were expecting something else by the description, so I guess that was more our fault for not looking into it better.

Our children got the second room, which is adjacent to the room we were in via a hall way. It had one large full size bed, lots of pillows, a tv, and a pull out couch. They had a mini fridge and stove in their room (no oven) and a fully stocked kitchen. Small dining area. It was perfect for them (10 years and 12 years) Both rooms had locked doors that needed separate keys.

The children really enjoyed having their own room, and we most definitely enjoyed our privacy. Mid week, the staff came in and cleaned up our rooms and gave us more toiletries and towels. We got discounted prices on all the attractions with no pressure to by, just informative information about each attraction. The staff at Westgate in the Smokies are just wonderful. They were so kind and helpful. Our Concierge was just a phone call away when we needed information on anything. He called daily to see how we were and to see if there was anything he could do for us. It proved to be very helpful when we wanted to go hiking and find some waterfalls.

My children used the arcade room once and said they didn't want to use it again. They said it cost too much money and they didn't like the games. I didn't go in there at all. We used the market place, which is obviously more expensive than a regular store, however you are paying for convenience. We did not use the Serenity Spa or the Smokehouse Grill. Nor did we use room service.

The bar is expensive (6 bucks a drink) but they have a happy hour everyday from 12 pm until 7 pm so everything is half price on weekdays. But this bar is only open until midnight, so no late night drinking. The shuttles are great though. Don't feel like walking? A shuttle will take you to your room. They are driving around the property all day, every 15 minutes or so, so it's no problem to get a ride.

Honestly this is the most beautiful place I have been to in a long time. The scenery is great. I loved all the hills on the property. What a great get away. I read some reviews that said they could hear everything in the other rooms due to the "paper thin walls", however, we experienced no such thing. We could at times, hear walking around. But we never heard anyone speaking. Oh, and as far as the one review that says you can hear the beds when a couple is in the room...those are the quietest beds we have ever experienced lol. We even inquired as to where they get their beds from lol.

My only complaint is that we were told the pools were open from 9am until 11 pm daily. This is not true. The indoor pool opens at 11 am and closes at 5 pm, so if you plan on touring Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge for the day, that pool will not be available to you at all. The out door pool closes at 9 pm. As we spent out days out touring, we only spent one day in the pools. That was disappointing.

Tips: If you are traveling here in the month of April, beware of the Annual Hot Rod Car Show. We had no idea it was going on (4-12-14) and we were stuck in the most horrific traffic jam. We averaged a little less than one mile an hour (3 hours total) and we were only 7 miles away from Westgate hoping to check in. It was terrible. Also, If you are going to use the Trolley to go to town, it only pays to to use it to go to Gatlinburg. You might as well drive to Pigeon Forge as you don't have to pay to park (each attraction has their own parking for free) and things are more spread out in Pigeon Forge. Gatlinburg is small and you can walk EVERYWHERE, parking is 10 bucks.
