We stayed at the BearSkin for our 36 wedding anniversary and were really expecting a better place for what we paid. The carpet looked as if it has never been cleaned and the floor we stayed(2nd) on had a burnt moter smell( they said it was the elevator motor). We had Lady Bugs at the windows and behind the drapes, although they did not bother us. I will say the staff was nice and proffessional. I will like to complement the Lady that ran the Breakfast Bar as it was clean and she kept right on top of everything, as soon as you used any equipment she was right there cleaning and putting everthing back in place. I do think that if and when we return to Gatlinburg we will stay elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed at the Bearskin Lodge for our 33rd wedding anniversary. We couldn't have been more pleased. The room was delightful with a king bed and fireplace. The view of the river from our balcony was beautiful. We enjoyed watching a lone fisherman in the river trying to catch something. We are not sure what. The hotel was very quiet, which was pleasing to us.

The location is fabulous, being next door to the Peddler and a block away from the Park restaurant, two of Gatlinburgs finest. The National Park is just minutes away.

We found the staff to be friendly and courteous. The housekeeping staff was not intrusive and did a wonderful job.

We look forward to coming back to the Bearskin Lodge. Gatlinburg doens't offer anything finer.

The online pics are VERY misleading! The gift shop and pool are NOT AT ALL what they appear to be. That was the least of our problems though.... We arrived (3 adults and 2 kids) only to be told that there were only 2 beds in the room - no pull outs or cots were offered. The reservation was made for 5 people. When I asked the check in girls where they expected that everyone sleep they just shrugged their shoulders and said that 5 was max capicity. They offered to book us another room for only 500.00 for 3 nights - not even adjoining. The teenagers running the counter were the rudest most unhelpful kids we've ever encountered. We ended up making a palet on the floor for one of the kids for our 3 night stay! The first thing this hotel needs to do get rid of teengers running the hotel and actually have some adults who understand customer service greeting travelers. The second thing they need to do is fire the cleaning staff. At 7AM the cleaning staff was laughing, carrying on and banging the carts around in the hallway. So much for sleeping in! When they did "clean" they left all the pillows on the floor, did not restock the coffee, cups, toilet paper and they left the melted ice in the bucket - of course no new bag was left for ice either. We had to ask for basic essentials...never been to a place where providing toilet paper and towels for guests was a hard thing to do. When we did ask for these things the kids at the counter had to turn off the movie they were watching on the computer and actually get up - which obviously put them out of their comfort zone.
The only saving grace is that Gatlingburg is beautiful this time of year. Definately go - just be sure to stay somewhere else!

Good location. Really nice room. Nice view from the balcony. Breakfast was good. The only problem was the elevator not working on at least two mornings and the teenage staff was very rude, someone needs to give them a lesson in public service. The adult staff was fine. Also, before you buy your "discount" tickets to area attractions from the hotel, check the prices. We got overcharged for the aquarium because we bought them at the hotel and not the aquarium itself.

We enjoyed our stay at Bearskin Lodge so much last year that we are returning in October for another stay. We loved the location of Bearskin Lodge--within walking distance of town with a trolley stop just outside of the hotel. Also, Bearskin Lodge is situated just at the entrance to Smoky Mountain National Park, so it was easy for us to get into the park. Bearskin Lodge was much cleaner than several other hotels we experienced in Gatlinburg over the years. The rooms are large, too (big enough for a twin-size air mattress on the floor with room to spare). We are not wasting our money on a room with a balcony over the river this year, though, because we were never in the room enough to sit on the balcony. Plus, the balcony looks straight into the hotel rooms across the river, so it wasn't private. The free breakfast had a lot of variety--the usual waffles, but also cereal, toast, fruit, boiled eggs, grits, oatmeal, juices, hot chocolate, coffee, milk, danish, muffins, etc. An attendant was on hand throughout the breakfast to make sure everything stayed stocked and clean. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful to us. Yes, the elevator is slow, but we were on vacation and not in a hurry! The lazy river was very nice, and even though the pool is small, it is still relaxing. We loved the rocking chairs at the entrance to the hotel, and we wanted to bring one home with us! They gave my mother the AARP discount even though she forgot to ask when we checked in. We also loved the lodge look of the room and the lobby! The mattresses in the room seemed new and were very comfortable. I have terrible back problems, but I never had a problem during our stay. The mattresses were firm but not hard, so I was very pleased. We would highly recommend Bearskin Lodge if you don't mind a hotel in town. Since we had our 12 year old son with us, he enjoyed being close to town in the evening where we could walk or take the trolley, and we loved being so close to the park entrance where we could avoid the main street traffic. Even though it was in town, the room was very quiet and peaceful. The fireplace was nice but more for show than function. I look forward to returning! Enjoy your stay!

We stayed for 2nights at this facility and that was ENOUGH!
The first night we stayed, we turned our bed down and the sheets were dirty. We called the front desk and had to get our own sheets and make our own bed. If that was not bad, there was never an appolgy given to us.
The lodge is not kept up and quite dirty.
Customer service is NOT AT THIS LODGE!

I would not recommend this lodge to another guest.

My biggest concern when arriving was the staff based on the reviews I read here. Actually, they were all helpful. One of the night staff didn't know if they still had the 2 day Dollywood tickets and asked me to ask the front desk in the morning. I did and got the tickets. The lazy river was fun and the other pool was rarely crowded.
Pros:
Hotel was clean
Off main drag near Park

Cons
1 Elevator for entire building. You will learn to use the stairs.
No luggage racks in room
Breakfast was not bad...but average
At far end of strip so some things are more than a mile a way to walk to.
Stream view is really a view of another hotel.
Lobby is very small.

All in all it's a fine hotel. Not really a lodge feeling. I would probably try another hotel next time.
