My husband and I stayed at Riverhouse at the Park in Nov. of 2008. It was just for the weekend. Wish we could have stayed longer. This place was wonderful. Right off the Parkway but within walking distance of everything. We stayed on the 2nd floor and even though it was street side it was very quiet. We could not believe the room when we walked in. Without a doubt the largest and cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The free coffee and homemade donuts in front of the gas fireplace every morning was wonderful. Very large balcony. My sister and her husband stayed down the street but visited our room. They couldn't believe it either and have decided this will definitely be their choice next time. And it will definitely be ours. Staff was very courteous. Can't wait until our return.

My husband and I just got back from our wonderful stay at Riverhouse At The Park.We decided to stay here after reading so many nice things on this forum.I have to say it was better than expected. We had stayed at cabins in the past and decided to try something different and after reading about this place we called and booked 4 days with them. When we arrived and entered the office we were treated so nicely. The lady that was working was very friendly and helpful. When we got to our room number 110 and opened the door we loved it.It was so big!Wow,what room we had. There was a king bed with lights above the headboard.A small table and two chairs which was nice to be able to eat breakfast on and a nice place for our laptops. Then there was a oversized chair(really a chair and a half)and large ottoman. There was also another arm chair with a table between them with a lamp.I loved the gas fireplace. You just turn on a switch on the wall and you had a beautiful romantic fire. The pictures on the walls had lights above them which was a nice touch.I loved the switches on the wall that was labeled wall,.pictures, and bed.You could turn on whatever lights you wanted or didn't want. The tv wasn't real big but had great color and alot of channels. We were told they would be replacing all tvs in 2009.We were able to receive wifi through a motel behind us which had a unsecured connect. We were also told they were going to be working on getting the wireles internet in all rooms in the next few months. Some rooms have no problems. It just depends on which room you have. The bathroom was large and had a nice jacuzzi tub which I loved. There was a wall hairdryer and a ironing board and a iron.A closet with hangers for your clothes.A micowave and a small refrigerator.A icebox was on the counter and they had a ice machine so you could get ice. They really have thought of everything to make your stay very comfortable.I loved the breakfast they include. You have your choice of coffee, hot chocolate or tea.You get orange juice and then you can get fresh baked donuts which are wonderful or whole wheat buttered toast or white with jelly. You call down between 8-10 am and place your order and within minutes your order is at your door. How great is that? When you are done just sit it outside your door and they come and get it.When we arrived we asked if they could furnish us a coffeepot for our oom and they said sure. The lady gave us a little basket with a coffeepot, filters, papercups and coffee.I tell you they think of everything. The room we had was on the bottom floor and our balcony was overlooking water and it had such a nice sound. We could hear it even with the door shut. There was also a table and two chairs on it and it was private. There is a hotel behind you but there are trees and I imagine in the summer months that would block alot and you would have more privacy. They have a maid service and everyday when we returned our bed had clean sheets and was made and clean towels and all garbage had been removed. We could find nothing wrong with this place. It was the cleanest place we have ever seen. What really impressed us was the fact that the wind had been blowing pretty hard and leaves were all over the balcony and when we opened the door they would try to blow in.We left for the day and when we got back the maid I guess when she cleaned the room had also swept off the leaves. That was really nice.I do not know who does their maid service but they are really good. This is our favorite new place and we cannot wait to return. It is located in a good location. There are several nice places to eat within a block that you can easily walk to and it is not to far to walk downtown. We liked it also because it was quiet. We were right on the front next to the street but it was quiet. We liked to be able to sit on the balcony and watch the cars and people go by.We would highly recommend this place to everyone.Once you stay there you will never want to stay anywhere else.

Visited for 2 nights and enjoyed the stay. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to walk. The folks in the office were very cordial, pleasant and helpful. We had a room by the river and the small waterfall, and enjoyed the view and sounds at night, very restful. The morning coffee and excellant donuts were a great way to start the day. Many sites and places to eat a short walk away. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to visit the national park, litterally minutes away. We would return to the Riverhouse, thanks to large, clean rooms ( a little dated ), a nice, simple breakfast, freindly staff, and reasonable rates

The good news is that this is right at the entrance of the Smoky Mtns. Plus it is spacious and clean with comfortable beds. Be sure to have rooms away from the noisy street (motorcycles, etc.) as we asked to change in about 2 minutes after entering one right off the main street and moved to 307. There is a nice river sound and we chose to get a bottle of wine at the nearby liquor store and KFC and eat on our balcony. Only problem was a smoker at the next balcony that blew our way. I would go there for a clean, less expensive and convenient room but nothing above average here.

We enjoyed a long weekend in Gatlinburg, staying at The River House At The Park. We have stayed in numerous locations in the area and found the River House to be most pleasant. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Our room was unusually large, exceptionally clean, nicely furnished and decorated. The king size bed was wonderfully comfortable, but personaly would have liked fluffier pillows. We found the entire property to be clean and well maintained, with secure and adequate parking. We didn't call in for donuts and juice, but can say the aroma from the donuts cooking was delicious! The location is perfect ~ close enough to walk to all attractions and eateries but nestled just outside the national park along the creek, perfect for enjoying some quiet time on the balcony. If you prefer not to walk, the trolley makes a stop out front!

We liked everything about this place except the sparse breakfast menu and the 'homemade' donuts. Really - the location is perfect just outside the Smoky Mtn. Park boundary, the room windows and balcony overlooked a fast moving creek, the room was spacious, quiet and well furnished. The hotel is walking distance to all the stores, amusements and restaurants on the main street but is not in the hectic bussle of it all. There is also a nice hot tub and pool. Best of all the price was really reasonable. I would rate it as a 3+star closer to 4. The only thing you might notice is that the buildings are somewhat dated out of the early 1980's.

I also booked this hotel after reading the reviews and seeing the #3 place on the TripAdvisor website. My daughter and I stayed here for her birthday weekend just to give you a little background. Here are a few facts that may help you decide on whether this place is for you:

1) Most hotels in Gatlingburg (even known names like Best Western) are OLD. I was raised in Knoxville, TN and have seen most of them for 30+ years. Riverhouse is OLD as well. It may have been updated at some point, but it has the smells of an old place and the mixmatched furniture of an old place and the weird layout of an old place.

2) While there is plenty of space in the room, the layout makes most of it just open space. The TV is hung on the wall in the corner over the fireplace which is built ito the corner (and turned on by electric switch). There is a table big enough for 4 peple to sit at, but who wants to sit at a table in an old, dark room?

3) The pool is small. The hot tub and the pool are not private.

4) To book a room you have to mail a check to them and wait for a mailed back confirmation. Quaint, but really, this reinforces my point #1!

5) The riverside hotel looks into the riverside hotel across the river. But remember this is the way most Gatlinburg hotels are.

Plusses:

1) It is easy to get to the hotel if you take the bypass road--from Pigeon Forge.

2) It is close to the end of town with less traffic.

3) The price is better than many local hotels.

4) It has an elevator (outside).

Bottom line: good place to sleep with no frills whatsoever, take your family, don't go for a romantic weekend (rent a chalet).
