I won a prize package from the Sugarlands Distilling Company and this included a hike by Smoky Mountain Guides. Our guide for the hike was Clayton LaPrees, and he was great. He was very knowledgeable about the area and extremely mindful of our needs as far as rest breaks, any allergies or phobias, etc.
We hiked to "The Courthouse," which offered some pretty breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys as well as trekked past several old homesites where the original Smoky Mountain settlers had their cabins. (We even inspected a few sites where the early settlers could have placed their moonshine stills!)
Clayton packed all the gear in himself and when we were at our destination at the Courthouse, he whipped out a burner and a few thermoses of sweet lemonade and we had some grilled chicken salad sandwiches. (The protein and carbs hit the spot after the very long climb in hot/humid weather!)
I can't say enough good things about Smoky Mountain Guides. I'll definitely use their services again when I'm in the area.
(You don't always have to walk! They offer vehicle tours as well! Check them out!)
