“Arrogant Management Team”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

We rented a couple of cabins billed as "private." However, upon entering, I was struck by just how residential and urban the neighborhood was. There is no privacy or intimacy whatsoever. The houses feel crammed one on top of another and there is no difference between these cabins and your average suburban neighborhood other than the fact that they are log cabins. The management team went out of their way to make us feel uncomfortable and unwanted. Their responses to the most basic situations and complaints were to make threats against us.

Moreover, upon exiting, we were hit with damages that simply did not exist. We are currently in the process of hiring an attorney to take them to court. I would not wish the time we had at Gatlinburg Falls upon my worst enemy. Truly the worst vacation experience of my life.

I stayed at the Irish Mist cabin with my family for my birthday and had a wonderful time. We were able to visit downtown Gatlinburg but still enjoy our time in nature at the beautiful cabin. The view was great, the cabin was spacious and very clean and we all had a great time. Carrie H. did a wonderful job planning our getaway for us. We definitely will be back. Thanks for the great time.

My family stayed in the cabin Irish Mist in September 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cabin was neat and clean and had plenty of room. The rooms were spacious and the cabin was well maintained. We were able to prepare our meals without problem. The scenery was beautiful and the neighbor was quiet. Carrie H assisted us in planning this trip and gave us wonderful service.

We stayed in this nine bedroom cabin in late September and have mixed feelings about it. It was very large and our group of 13 loved having our own bedrooms while still being all together. This resort was advertised as having the cleanest cabins in the Smokies but if that's the case, some others must be pretty filthy. Overall the cabin was fairly clean but the floors had crumbs in the corners, there were cobwebs in many places and the valances were absolutely dust laden.

The kitchen was large with plenty of counter space and the two refrigerators were a must with so many people but the kitchen was oddly equipped. Lots of pots and pans but no pot holders. Only one dish towel and no dish cloth. Two blenders, two can openers, but only one coffee maker. The bathroom towel supply was a little odd too. Four towels per bathroom but just two hand towels and washcloths. Also the basement bathrooms which each serve two bedrooms have the same number of towels as the master bathrooms which only serve one bedroom.

The washer and dryer got lots of use but the dryer took FOREVER to dry. It's the stackable type and It doesn't get very warm so even a small load can take an hour or more to dry.

There were only two clock radios for the nine bedrooms. I know a lot of people rely on cell phones now but a clock radio seems like standard issue for bedrooms in rental properties.

The mattresses in most of the bedrooms are not great, not awful but could stand to be replaced due to sagging. The mattresses in the queen bunk room, however, are pretty awful. They're torn and you can feel every spring. You should plan to put your heavy sleepers in the basement rooms because the chairs in the dining area on the main floor make so much noise when being pushed in and out on the tile floor, that light sleepers in the basement are going to be kept awake until everyone else goes to bed. You should also be aware that there is no door between the bunk room and the king room adjoining it in the basement. There is a doorway but no door to close. I guess this is OK for a family but would be awkward for two couples sharing those rooms which also share a bath that you can only get to by going through the bunk room. There is a doorway, why couldn't they put a door!? We were in the basement king room that adjoined the bunk room and every night, when others had gone upstairs, there would be loud popping sounds that you really couldn't sleep through. Some of our group took showers at night and we think it was the hot water in the pipes that made all the racket. After about a half hour to an hour, it would stop.

Parking was a problem for us. We only had five cars and they tell you there is parking for six cars but the neighboring cabin renters kept parking in front of ours requiring us to go next door and ask them to move their car. Simply marking out the spaces and stenciling which cabin they belong to would save a lot of aggravation. They tell you that you can park extra cars at the resort office but it's a fairly long walk and part of it is up a very steep hill.

We never quite figured out the trash pick-up schedule. The handbook says don't put the trash out before 2 PM but they always came by shortly after 10 AM and they don't want it left out overnight.

They are oddly secretive about the address. We were having our first night's meal catered but they wouldn't give us an address to give the caterer until we checked in. You don't have the key code until you check in so what's the big deal if you know the cabin's address? By the way, I don't remember the exact number but it's on Resort Way.

The location has beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains and even with the cabins being so close together, it was VERY quiet. Of course, that depends to a large extent on how quiet the people next to you are, but I get the feeling the resort is VERY strict in enforcing the noise regulations. There is a lot to do in the area, although downtown Gatlinburg is like a boardwalk area along the Jersey shore, one trinket shop after another. One activity I can recommend is the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in the national park. It gives a glimpse of what mountain life was like for subsistence farmers and it's much less crowded than Cade's Cove, with gorgeous scenery.

Some old VietNam vets were looking for a spot to hold a reunion. We decided a recon might be in order so we went to visit in feb.2013. We had already reserved a 12 bedroom cabin on line and wanted to see it up close. It was a nice cabin but the reunion had outgrown it already. We ended up at The Glades renting 3 cabins,2- 8 bedroom and 1- 7 bedroom. Carrie H kept us on the straight and narrow everystep of the way.
The group loved the cabins so much, they what to return in 2015.

This was our second stay with Gatlinburg Falls Resort and I came away with the same impression that I had the first time. We loved the resort and the cabin, but it just was not cleaned to our standards. The cleaning staff does clean everywhere that is easy, but it if they have to bend down or reach for something it is left dirty. If you look behind or under anything you will see months or years worth of dust or dirt. If they would just do a little extra cleaning I would rate this resort a five star. In our 2 stays we have not had any of the customer service issues that other reviewers have had, staff was friendly throughout the booking process and the stay. This review applies for both cabins we stayed in: "High Ground", and "Hawks Landing".
