We have been traveling for a month so we have stayed in many campgrounds..from state parks to "luxury"campgrounds and this has been one of our favorites.
Very clean and well-kept, nice shaded sites, incredibly nice, helpful owners, Barry and Chong. They gave us great recommendations forlocal sights to see and they were very accommodating.
We are traveling in a 45ft motorcoach with a toad. Chong originally told us that they did not have a site large enough for us but we begged her to let us try it! We stayed for 4 days wished we could have stayed longer. The campground is only about 10 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg. ..great location. We would definitely stay here again.

It was our first time visiting the Smokies, first time towing our camper. We arrived quite late almost around midnight, but Patrick was still there at the gate house and guided us to our site. I had a tough time backing in the camper, thank Patrick's great help, we made it without hitting a tree or falling into the ditch. This kind of friendly service is not easy to find in any campground, perhaps checking in Smoky Bear feels like checking in a 5 stars hotel! Talking about the campground, it's beautifully landscaped and maintained, with lots of trees and plenty of shades, we even found flowers in front of our lot. The bathroom was immaculately clean, I'm not exaggerating it's the cleanest in any campgrounds I've been to, it even has air-conditioning...neat! It's conveniently located just 20 minutes drive from Gatlinburg where lots of attractions, restaurants and shops are found. 4 days definitely wasn't enough to see the Smokies, we will be back again and for sure we will stay at Smoky Bear when we're back.

Smoky Bear Campground is a clean, family friendly place to stay near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The owners are accommodating in handling requests, knowledgable of the area, and genuinely kind.

We stayed in two cabins (because we made reservations so late and close to our arrival time, we had to change cabins after the first night). Both cabins had dishes and linens. Beds were comfortable.

If I can get back to the area I would love to stay here again!

My husband, grandson, 4 Chihuahuas and I took our new camper on a trip to the Smokies. While searching for possible places to stay that were pet friendly, we came upon Smoky Bear CG's website. We are certainly glad that we decided to stay there...it was wonderful! The owner is so nice to deal with. We asked for a site that was a little bit away from the main activity because this was our first trip with the dogs and we worried about them barking and disturbing neighbors. We were struck by the friendliness of all the people who were camping there. Most of them were traveling with pets and our dogs enjoyed all the attention they got. The campground is small enough that everything is accessible quickly. And everything is very attractive and spotless. The bathhouses and laundry room were clean and there was always someone who was working on the grounds. We enjoyed sitting outside in the evening by the campfire...it was so peaceful and quiet! If you are wanting to be in the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg this would not be for you. It took about 20 minutes to get to Gatlinburg and about 45 minutes to Pigeon Forge. We took our grandson both places to do some of the "touristy" things and enjoyed getting back to a place to relax away from the crowds. We had hoped to extend our stay by 2 days but our spot had already been reserved, so we checked out and spent the rest of our week in Cherokee. We look forward to returning sometime...it was a perfect stay!

Great, great place. Small AND intimate little campground with all the amenities of larger, more crowded, campsites. The owner and her son are such good people.

If I may, here is some advice for the first timers to the area. Make sure you visit their website. There is a lot of good information there. I-40 is under construction so pay close attention to signs. If you are not used to narrow roads, well, you will be when you leave TN. Gatlinburg is really touristy and jammed packed with people. Just like Pigeon Forge and that is what makes Smokey Bear campground all the better. Most other campgrounds are crowded and overbooked with every square inch of space used to park or sit. Not here. This place is a real stress reliever.

Very good hookups and super clean baths and bathrooms. You can tell, they take great pride in their little slice of heaven.

Quaint RV part outside of Gatlinburg. 1) Cleanest restrooms I've EVER seen! 2) Owner, Chong and son, Patrick, were wonderful and very helpful with information on local area activities--every recommendation was spot on. 3) Yes... 20 min outside of Gatlingburg but it's part of its charm... after a busy day of activities it was nice to get away to a quiet campground. 4) While a little distance from Galinburg it's very close to NC where there are additional activities so that worked wonderful for us. 5) GREAT for kids... we were worried it might be to off the beaten track for our 2 kids but it was perfect. Between the pool, small basketball court (ball provided), and corn hole game they kept busy when we were at the campground. BOTTOM LINE: We'll go back to TN and it's the only place we'd stay and it's the number one place will recommend to our friends.

Room Tip: For backin RVs site 18 is awesome!

Our family enjoys tent camping, but there are few options near Gatlinburg outside of the National Forest. Most everything in the vicinity is much too commercial for our tastes. The Smoky Bear Campground offers the perfect happy medium between the primitive National Forest sites and the flashing neon RV villages. We love to stay in site 8, since it is big enough for our two large tents. It is bordered by a forest and field, so it feels a bit more secluded than the rest. There are only about 50 possible sites, so there are fewer people at Smoky Bear at any given time than at most other local campgrounds. Whenever we've stayed, the guests (and their yappy dogs) have all been quiet and respectful. The grounds are kept clean, with quaint landscaping. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathrooms are indeed immaculate. I've never found as much as a stray hair anywhere inside. The owners are super friendly and offer good tips about local restaurants, attractions, and hikes.
