“You'll regret going anywhere else!”
Reviewed 9 July 2008

Well, this review is long overdue, but here goes. What inspired me to write this review now, is that I just stayed in another B&B in Gatlinburg (only because the Buckhorn was booked) and now I feel more justified in my recommendation. I've had the pleasure of staying at the Buckhorn on three different occasions, and all three have been amazing! I've stayed in both a traditional and a premier room, and both were great...just depends on your budget, but the premier room is definitely worth the extra $$.

For Christmas, my brothers and I got my parents a trip here (the hot chocolate package which includes dinners), and they also had an amazing time. My dad is VERY critical of just about everything, and even he couldn't think of anything negative to say. They said both the food and the views from the room left them speechless.

The rooms are great, the food is great and the location is great - very convenient to downtown Gatlinburg. For people who love B&B's, the Buckhorn is great, but it's also great for people who don't care for the sometimes-too-close-quarters of most B&B's...you're still able to have lots of privacy if you choose.

I could go on for days about this place, but I can honestly say that everyone I've recommended to go here has fallen in love with it just like we have.

When my husband or I fantasize about getting away for a few days, one place comes to mind first--The Buckhorn Inn. We've tried other B & B's, but nothing has come close to matching the Buckhorn's premiere suites, incredible view, and gourmet breakfasts and dinners. Take our advice and make reservations for dinner at the Inn each night. The restaurants in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge usually have long waits for dinner. There is nothing more relaxing than simply walking from your room to the Inn dining room and being led to your private table--with no wait. Every meal we've ever had at the Buckhorn was excellent. On the days we hike, the Inn packs us a generous sack lunch (usually we are so stuffed from their breakfast that we just order one lunch and ask them to cut the sandwich in two). Put simply--the Buckhorn Inn is our favorite place.

What a welcome divergence from the crowds and sights of downtown Gatlinburg. The Buckhorn Inn is situated about 6 miles East of town in the foothills of the Smokies. The view from the back porch is as gorgeous as it looks on their Web site. The Inn itself is classy with a wonderful attention to detail. The back porch is wonderfully peaceful - I'm sitting there now on a rocking chair watching cardinals eat from the bird feeders and hearing all sorts of birds in the forest surrounding the inn.

My wife and I stayed here for one night on a cross-country road trip. Its proximity to Smoky Mountains National Park is perfect, and the tranquility is what really sets it apart.

We had dinner there, which left a lot to be desired (see the restaurant reviews), but breakfast was fantastic. We both had banana's foster French toast with bacon. You can't go wrong staying here!

We spent an entire weekend at the Buckhorn Inn for our wedding. We got married outside at a beautiful mountain view site, and had the reception inside in the main dining room in the Inn. It was a perfect wedding weekend! Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed the Inn. The food was wonderful, the rooms were nice and the ceremony site was breathtaking. The owner was very helpful in recommending vendors (we planned the wedding from out of state) and her willingness to work with us on all of our requests was amazing. This weekend would not have come together as well as it did without the wonderful service that they offer.

We can't wait to return to the Buckhorn Inn for future trips.

If you wish to stay away from the touristy areas in the Smokey Mountains, then Buckhorn Inn is the place for you. We absolutely loved it. It is very peaceful and beautiful. The view from our window and the verandah were wonderful. The staff is courteous and attentive. The owner is as well. In fact, he greets you each morning and pulls out the chair for the ladies. We enjoyed conversing with him and his staff. The food is literally the best I have eaten on a trip. Breakfast and dinner.

You will meet interesting people also and it was fun to converse with them as well. In fact, there was a sketch artist that we enjoyed watching from our window. He was talented.

This is the perfect place to stay in that you are close to the mountains but away from the hustle and bustle.

We will return.

The Buckhorn Inn couldn’t be more of a contrast to the honky-tonk nature of Gatlinberg. Our stay at the Buckhorn was the perfect celebration for our 35th wedding anniversary. Located in the heart of the Arts and Crafts district, we found several quality studios and galleries within walking distance of the Inn. Although all the rooms in Cottage 1 were very comfortable, the screened porch with its view of Mt. LeConte was magnificent. Breakfasts were imaginative, dinners elegant. The nature trail was a delight, complete with nesting mute swans and pileated woodpeckers. Our hosts were gracious and we felt that when they said they hoped we’d come back, it was sincere.

We stayed at the Buckhorn after reviewing all of our Gatlinburg options. Like many of the previous reviews, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Buckhorn to others. However, the quality of the stay can probably vary widely depending on the room you choose. We have the following observations based on our stay in the "Tower Room":

1) The Tower Room is nice for younger couples who do not mind stairs (there are three flights of stairs to get to the bedroom).
2) It is nice for people who do not mind tight quarters (it's rather small)
3) There is some (faint) noise from the kitchen that can be heard if you are on the second or first level (but I never heard it from the third level, where the bed is located).
4) The water pressure in the shower is extremely weak - this was probably my biggest disappointment from the stay.

The breakfast was tasty, but not suitable for those watching their weight or wanting healthy food. They had granola and yogurt available, but not options such as food made with healthier oils/meats/etc.

The Inn is not within walking distance of the Gatlinburg sites, but is actually about a 10-15 minute drive to the "touristy" area.

Finally, they add a "10%" gratuity to the total bill. While this is fully disclosed on the website prior to booking, because it is a required amount, they should just reflect this in the advertised price. After taxes and the required 10% gratuity, the total bill can be up to 35% higher than the price listed.

Overall it was a nice stay with great views and a quaint Inn. We would stay again if passing through the Gatlinburg area.
