After staying at an absolute wonderful Inn in Ashville (the beaufort), Happensteal Inn was a bit disappointing. It was too large and pretentious. I did not like all the paintings hanging and begging to be purchased. It was a nice Inn overall but not cozy and not welcoming.

In November 2010, my husband and I will celebrate our 18th year of going to Hippensteals. It is like a family reunion that we look forward to with great anticipation. The staff is like our family and the guests that have been coming year after year the same time we come have also become like our family. There are two couples from Nashville, one couple from Chicago and several couples from Georgia that are there the same time each year. Breakfast in the breakfast room and late night talk sessions in the kitchen sharing dessert are wonderful. Everyone and everything is so warm and inviting, not to mention, the inn has the very best view in the Smokies in my opinion. It never fails to take my breath away, although I have seen it many, many times. Vern and Lisa are wonderful people who truly know the meaning of hospitality. The food is fabulous and the rooms are spacious, decorated in eclectic fashion and so clean! I highly recommend this B & B to anyone who wants to relax and be pampered.

We have stayed with Vern and Lisa for several years. They are simply the warmest hosts, and offer the best life has to offer. Everything is immaculate and is well under priced for the amenities, location, views and wonderful meals that you will enjoy. We have a standing reservation and would not consider giving it up to anyone. Usually a waiting list, but they will do everything possible to work you in.

Wonderful in ALL aspects! Superlative! Unending view of over 12 Smoky Mt Peaks! Immaculate Family run Inn with Homemade Full Breakfast Served by the owner on china and Desserts each night. Just outside of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN so can still go down to partake of the touristy activities there and then return to your blissful peaceful retreat. Long porch with rocking chairs and old-timey swings on each of 3 levels with uninterrupted pastoral views of the mountains. You can even take the views and mt scenes home as the owner is also an artist. You can hike in Smoky Mt National Park less than 30 min from front door. The drive up is a bit of a nailbiter as is one way up (or down) the mountain but well worth it being at such a height! All rooms have King beds and are all decorated differently with antigues. Comfortable full size cots are available, which our 12 year old son used. There is TV and lots of board games but no other activities for children so would not recommend for anyone under 10.
The homemade breads are wonderful and the breakfasts are big and tasty but not for picky eaters.

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend after a business trip to Knoxville. While a little of the beaten path, it was well worth the trip! The views were amazing! The room was huge, very comfortable and clean. The food was terrific (treats every night in addition to the breakfasts). Overall, it was a perfect quiet getaway in the Arts and Crafts Community. A nice change of pace from the crowded traffic filled downtown area. (If you're driving here, I strongly suggest investing in a map or GPS system and finding a route other than directly through Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. The traffic was worse than Chicago in rush hour!) The staff and other guests were also very friendly and gave us lots of helpful tips about the area. We enjoyed it so much, we're considering coming back and bringing our parents.

Room was large with fireplace and Jacuzzi. It opened onto a community deck on the second floor. View of mountains is wonderful. There is a long private drive that winds through the property. Room was clean and well stocked and the library has a large supply of books, videos, etc. The deck was supplied with rockers. The evening dessets were quite good and the breakfast was outstanding. The biggest drawback might be its location. It is relatively close to the art district, but quite a drive over narrow, crooked roads from Gatlinburg and even farther from Pigeon Forge, if they are your primary interest. If the view and pastural surroundings are your goal, then this is a great pick.
