“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 2 September 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Edgewater on Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31,2012 for our 23rd anniversary.
The Edgewater is located in a fantastic location. On a back street away from all of the noise but within walking distance to everything. The national park entrance is close too.
There are several great restaurants within a 5 minute walk: Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Dick's Last Resort, Five Guys, and Hard Rock Cafe, just to name a few.
We had a king-size room facing the river and enjoyed watching the ducks and fishermen. The view of the mountains was great,as was the view of the Spaceneedle at night. The only complaint I would have about the room would be that there was only one "comfy" chair in the room (it was a fully upholstered chair with ottoman. There was another chair at the desk but it was not comfortable). There were plenty of towels and washclothes provided without us requesting them. The fridge was very useful. There was also a microwave and coffee maker also. Room and bath were very clean and modern. Flat screen TV was nice.
We are thinking about taking our children (ages 20 and 14) to Gatlinburg for their birhdays and will be staying here again.
They offer a frequent guest program where you stay with them 5 times and recieve a free night. We forgot to sign up for this when we checked out.

We stayed at the Edgewater Hotel for 4 days in August. This is an average hotel in all respects, but it is the location which elevates this hotel. This hotel is on River road and the front has a stream in front of it and the back faces a hill really (not a mountain in my opinion). When we booked the hotel online, you could book a room with a mountain view. Of course we went for this room. We were on the 7th floor (has 8 floors I think) and our balcony faced the bottom part of a hill which is very close so you are just looking at trees on a hill. The other problem is that you are over the pool which brought some noise. I found that if you face the front (not the mountain) and if you are higher up like we were, you would actually get a view of the mountains.

Rooms:
The rooms are a bit old, nothing special and met our needs. The shower was horrible; beds were adequate; free wifi. There is nothing special to note. The ice maker on our floor was broken so I always had to go down a floor.

Food:
There is breakfast included but I would rate this as very poor. There was a waffle maker; biscuits and gravy; a couple of cereal choices; coffee/tea/milk/juice; toast, etc. I would have liked choices of fresh fruit; yogurt; muffins; bagels but there was none of this! In all the hotels we stayed and places we visited in our travels over 11 days, this was by far the worst breakfast. The sitting area is nice, but they need to improve the breakfast! Later at night we were hungry and it would have been nice had there been some food available in the hotel. In their book in the room, there was a couple of take out places noted, but we ended up having to do our own searching on the internet. It would have been nice if this was provided by the hotel. We ordered in from a Submarine place and it was disgusting and made us ill. There are many wonderful restaurants in town. I would recommend The Cherokee Grill and Steakhouse and Smoky Mountain Brewery where they make their own beer and it is amazing!

There is a covered parking garage and we had no issues finding parking in this hotel.

This hotel is about middle along the way on River road and has very quick access to the main street in Gatlinburg; the Aquarium and entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park. Again, this is an ideal location!!

The price of this hotel was adequate in comparison to others in this area. The bonus was a special in August where we did get one night free for booking three nights. Always check online for specials. We booked through expedia.com

Room Tip: Rooms in front and higher up will give you a view of mountains. Rooms in back give you close up view...

The room was updated and clean although at first there was a mildew smell coming from the air conditioner, but after we turned the thermostat to the coolest setting it soon went away. The staff was friendly the breakfrast was excellent the balacony was overlooking the river and walking distance to everything. The parking was tight but manageable and wish the pool hours were longer. Over all it was excellent.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room overlooking the river (creek) because the rooms to the back have no view.

We have stayed at the Edgewater Hotel for many years. I have always maintained that the location is the prime reason to stay here. As Gatlinburg expands its way up the main street, the location of the hotel becomes even more impressive. From the hotel, we just walk through the parking lot across the street and we are on the main street. This is the area where the newer attractions and restaurants have located, i.e. Dick's Last Resort and others. When you are ready to go to the Visitor's Center for the National Park, you are very close to the entrance. There are some issues with the hotel, but they are generally minor and part of most motels in Gatlinburg. We stayed on the river side. So, from your balcony, you can see the parking lots of other hotels and the hotels themselves. But, you can also see the mountains and look down and see people fishing. There was a musty smell when we first opened the doors to two of the three rooms we had reserved. We have found that in every hotel that we have stayed at in Gatlinburg, when they are located on the stream. The Edgewater appears to recognize this issue because I frequently see them open the hall door and the balcony door to air out the rooms when the rooms are not occupied. I just wish they had done that to our two rooms. After airing out the rooms, the musty smell was gone. We kept our balcony door open all the time because the weather was so nice. The rooms were large and spotlessly clean. Each included a refrigerator that we used to chill our bottles of water that we took on our walks in the National Park. The toiletries were of a minimal quality. I wish they would improve in this area. The breakfast service did not appeal to our family, so we ate at a one of the many great restaurants located nearby. My family used the pool. The kids enjoyed it because it goes from the inside, under a wall to an outside pool. It is not overly large. But, since they were the only ones there, it was more than adequate. There were only a few, rough towels available for drying off. We took the last 4 towels for our six people that were swimming. My son had no trouble finding a parking space for his big SUV. We parked it and only moved it when we went out to hike. It was great to avoid all the traffic and parking problems of Gatlinburg. One night, when the young kids were still ready to see more sights and activities, my husband decided to go back to the room. All he had to do was cut through the public parking lot, go down a half block and he was back at the hotel. So convenient! We will definitely be coming back here next summer.

Stayed the weekend of 8/11 & 8/12. First time to stay and found the hotel to be better than expected. Room was clean, staff friendly, and a great location. Most of the places we wanted to visit were within walking distance.

Room Tip: It's true the mountain view is literally right into the side of the mountain.

We stayed at the Edgewater for a Fri & Sat. in Aug. This is our 2nd visit and we will probably come back next year when we return to Gatlinburg.

Our room was on the 7th floor and faced the mountain. Room wasn’t the biggest but it was okay. 2 queen sized beds. The beds aren’t the softest. My wife has bursitis in her hip and these beds really irritated her hip. Beds had 4 pillows each.

Bathroom is a one person at a time size. If someone is sitting on the toilet, don’t even think of trying to open the door. I think bathroom has been updated. The tub has a synthetic insert on both tub and sides. The counter is (for me) at a nice height (36”). Towels are really rough. A new light has been installed in front of the ceiling mounted fixture.
Room had a min-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, iron, ironing board and a nice 42 inch flat screen TV. Lots of TV channels, however not many HiDef channels that could take advantage of the nice TV.

Hassles: 1) Yes, parking is still a hassle. A Toyota Avalon takes up all of parking space with 6 inches on both sides. You may have to get out of the car on one side. The good thing is that the location of the Edgewater is nice and central so we walked everywhere we wanted to go. 2) elevators – yep they’re slow – deal with it, you’re on vacation you have enough time.

Breakfast is okay for us. Their cereal is only Sugar Frosted Flakes and Raisin Bran (both have too much sugar) – we bring our own. They do have some granola to add to what we brought. The hot bar does have biscuits that are replenished periodically and either sausage or something that was the color of eggs but the uniform circular shape leads me to believe is might be synthetic. Waffles are available. The toaster can be exciting. We saw one guy shoot his toast 12 inches in the air, such that one slice disappeared behind the toaster and the other came down just to the left of the toaster. There is an attendant that is always busy either cleaning or replenishing the food.

Prior to going on our yearly "honeymoon" to gatlinburg, we reviewed several Hotels. We liked what the Edgewater Offered, but were concerned about some of the reviews. Let me set anyone's mind at ease. this place was wonderful. While the room was in the back, faceing the mountain, we loved it. the room was clean, large and well stocked. We sat on our balconey every morning and drank coffee, watching the squirrels play in the trees. thestaff was friendly, and always had a smile. During the stay, some kids started throwing trash into the river. We told the staff and they took action quick! the hotel is close enough to the main drag to walk, and far enough not to deal with the noise. It is next door to one of the attractions my wife loved, so it was a win/win! We now have a new place to go!

Room Tip: While the moutain side view is just that, a side of the mountain, it is quiet, private and in the mo...
