“Was very happy with our stay at Rocky Waters!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2009

We loved the location, which over looks the Little Pigeon River. We were able to feed the duck every morning. It is also walking distance to the heart of Gatlinburg. The thing that empressed us the most was that everyday we went out when we got back our room was cleaned up by hotel staff!! We did not even have to ask. Thank You Carolyn. We would for sure recommed this hotel to anyone that is looking somewhere near Gatlinburg to stay. We will be repeat customers of Rocky Waters!!

We spent two nights at Rocky Waters and loved the entire experience. Our room was large, clean and comfy. Loved the private balcony overlooking Little Pigeon River. The bathroom was one of the cleanest I've experienced for a hotel of this quality. The hotel is located on a busy road, but so is every other hotel in Gatlinburg. BUT, even though it's on one of the main drags, there was no traffic noise in our room. It is within easy walking distance of the entire city, many restaurants, shopping, etc. We couldn't have been any happier with the service and quality of this place. I recommend it wholeheartedly!! It gets five stars in my book.

One small problem (but not for us as we were on motorcycles) is the parking. If you have a large truck you might be in trouble. The parking spaces are very narrow.

This motel is located off the main road through the town of Gatlinburg. The road on which it is located is four lanes and has lots of traffic, but there seemed to be traffic everywhere in this town. We were able to look at two different rooms and there was a big difference in the road noise. We chose a room on the 2nd floor(which in this motel, I think, was actually the 1st floor) as they have parking underneath the 2nd floor. We chose a room that faced a motel on the opposite bank of the creek, which blocked our view of the 4 lane road. There were large trees near our room which gave us a better view and diminished the noise. There are little balconies facing the creek.

The motel was clean and the room had a small refrigerator and microwave, which is always handy. We stayed 3 nights. The purpose of our trip was to see the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

If you are looking for more of a nature encounter, then don't stay in Gatlinburg. We did hear about other areas located right outside the park that would be more to our liking, but it was really after the fact.

Booked this hotel because of the way it presented on the website. and reviews on Trip Advisor. Upon checking into our room we were extrememely disappointed. Smell of mold, worn out furniture, stained and dirty carpet with some sort of holes. Old windows with a breeze. Rooms are very outdated and run down. There are other hotels closer to the heart of Gatlinburg which have the same room fee and are much nicer. We opted not to stay and found another hotel.

My husband and I returned to Gatlinburg for our 10th anniversary. I did a lot of checking online for just the right hotel and the right price. Some of the reviews I read for this hotel made me skeptical, but some of the other hotels also got bad reviews so I figured I would give it a go. The balcony was what really sold us and believe me it was worth it. Not sure if it matters but we stayed at the Days Inn side.

I had made our reservations back in June so I was worried, but no reason because everything worked out fine and we had no problems checking in. Everything went nice and smooth, the lady at the front desk was very friendly also. We got up to our room and believe it or not it was quite nice. It looked to have been recently remodeled. It was nice and clean also. The only bad thing I did notice was a musty smell, but we decided it was the air conditioner as we had turned it off one day and upon our return turned it back on and that was when we really noticed the mustiness. The balcony was so nice and I spent quite a lot of time out there just watching the river and the little ground hog who stuck his head out from time to time in search of food.

We stayed the entire week here and loved the pool and my husband especially loved the jacuzzi. Our cleaning lady did an excellant job and we always had fresh towels and clean linins. All in all we were very happy with our stay and would definately stay again.

I just got back from Gatlinburg where we stayed at Rocky Waters for our anniversary. We had two rooms - a king jacuzzi suite for us, a standard double for our kids and the babysitter. I would say that the absolute best thing about the hotel is the location - we LOVED the balconies overlooking the river. So relaxing, and private! We also loved how it was close to everything on the main drag, yet not right in the thick of it. Reading some previous reviews, I had been a little worried that we would be so far away that we'd have to drive everywhere, but it really is very close - not even a five minute walk and you are in the center of everything, near the aquarium.

As far as our rooms themselves, our experiences were very divergent. Our jacuzzi room was wonderful - comfortable, though a bit firm, bed, and a big jacuzzi tub in a corner nook surrounded by windows overlooking the river. So lovely! The room was huge, though that could be because we had the end unit of the motel. We loved the heated floor of the bathroom, and the room itself was very clean and well-maintained. Lots of fresh towels every day. The only problems were: the sink stopper stopped ALL the way, so we had to pull it out completely so that we could use the sink, and the room phone had a short in it, so that when our babysitter called us from her room, she could hear us say hello but we couldn't hear her. Thank goodness for cell phones.

As for the standard double room, it appeared clean, though very small. It would be way too tight for a family of four or five in one room, which would be how we normally travel. It would be better to remove one of the two sitting chairs in the room just to have more room to walk around. In the small room are two double beds, two side chairs, a table, and dresser and television unit. Just way too tight. On the plus side, the bathroom area is in its own area, and it includes a second sink and another dresser. The toilet ran all the time in this room, and on our second night there, our babysitter let us know that she had found some ants crawling around the bathroom area. I guess that can happen in any older hotel room, but still.. yuck.

We loved having the mini fridge and microwaves in each of our units. There are two pools in the complex - one for the building itself, and another attached to the Days Inn Rocky Waters, which is connected but a different building. (Same owners). We tested out both pool areas. The one on our building was yucky, and the spa had a funny smell. (Not good for a hot water pool.) We then took the kids over to the Days Inn pool, and it was WONDERFUL. It has a hot tub, a standard pool with a big 2-foot area (great for playing with little non-swimmer kids), and a kiddie pool (1 foot) area. We never tried the continental breakfast, because we like to sleep in and it was over at 10 am. Plus, the breakfast was served in the Days Inn building, not ours, so it wasn't convienient to pop over there while other family members were getting dressed for the day.

Overall, I LOVED the Rocky Waters for our jacuzzi room, but I give "two stars" for the standard room. (So I'm averaging out the two and giving it a three.) If you can swing it, I recommend definately paying a little more for the king jacuzzi room -- and make sure you request a room with a balcony overlooking the river. You won't be disappointed!!!
