My wife and my brother and I went here for the first time and let me tell ya it was really cool. Then we went into this room with a big ball looking thing where video was shown on it. Wow were we blown away. Really great place to see.
We stopped at the visitor center on our way to DC from the Cryptology Museum. There really wasn't much to the museum. There were several rockets outside but they were ones you could see at many NASA locations. The display for the new orbiting telescope was very good and informative. I would not go out of my way to visit.
This is a small but nice space center. If you are in the area, it is worth the visit. But do not drive far to see it. Still, IKEA is near by. You can drop mom off at IKEA and then go see the Space Center.
I stopped in on my way somewhere else for a couple of hours to check out the James Webb Space Telescope exhibit.
A very helpful and knowledgeable helped me plan my visit. There were a number of things that I just didn't have time to do but I greatly enjoyed checking out the various exhibits and the rocket park that contains real rockets. I believe they have launches regularly too.
The little gift shop beside the visitor centre provided a nice set of NASA cuff-links plus some other gifts for friends.
I went in the off-season perhaps and in mid-week and there was no problem with parking nor finding my way around. I highly recommend this if your travels include this part of DC.
During a recent family visit, we took the kids to the NASA Goddard Visitor Center. I must admit that we were pleasantly surprised. There were several interactive activities for the children. A lot of good information on the history of the space center, and the small gift shop had a nice variety of items, including freeze dried space food.
The NASA Goddard Visitor Center is a great museum! Lots of educational displays including an actual Moon Rock and a model of the JWST. The gift shop offers plenty of t-shirts, patches, pins, etc... It's open to the public without having to drive onto the base.
