“you wont get better food in any other place in kilifi,”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 January 2014

This place is serves the best family business, serving the best food in kilifi, the rooms are comfortable and the staff are really attentive, they are because they have strict rules to apply when serving good food. I found the owners two of the nicest people in the area. they welcome you to their table they have a wonderful family around them who are also very welcoming. the staff are friendly. but as in any other place in the world there are good and bad staff. and that happens everywhere, but on the whole i have never had a problem with them. as for the family day on a sunday...isn't this what we go to a foreign country for- to experience the culture. The toilets are exception and are the cleanest in kenya -another thing that u wudnt expect in a 3rd world country, but this is due to the owners high standards. Try taking a walk around locally, to any near hotels and try to compare...you can not... ever!!!!!. maybe we should remember that these people are not Kenyan altho the have spent many years in Kenya, they are Italian and their 1st language is not English, so if there is a complaint please remember not to rant like we English can do, but approach nicely in a respectful manner, as we should do when visiting a country that cannot always have electricity on tap 24hrs a day or even water. when u book for Kenya ,,,,remember these are people just like us. they are not bloody magicians. they are just honest to goodness...good people and again do the best food in kilifi.

Room Tip: all rooms are good ...but if you don't like sundays go find another place to go for the day and...

Had dinner on a rather quiet evening in September with two friends. The food was great - loved the breads straight out of the oven; all so fresh with just enough herbs and olive oil or garlic or olives. I ate a fish dish was just as tasty but best all were the saute veggies, done just enough to retain their crunch and colour. The meal was large so none of us took dessert. The pizzas, my friends reported, had ample filling; there was even lots to take away. Sparkling water would be a welcome addition to the drinks menu for teetotalers not interested in fruit juice. Have to say, the service was slow for such a quiet evening but, I would definitely return!

We didn't stay here but found it a handy place for a swim. The swimming pool was basically deserted most of the time, and for $2 a time it was a good deal. The pool is clean and medium sized. The restaurant wasn't bad but not great either.

I stayed there for a weeks and although its ok for a budget hotel, the service was terrible. At one point the waiter actually forgot my order so I had to go to some other hotel to eat my dinner. If you're on a business trip, this is not the best place to stay, especially if you have early morning meetings since the service is slow. The rooms were clean but the pool was dirty. They also need to fix the flashing system in their toilets.

Having agreed a price and paid a deposit weeks before with the staff of this very basic place to stay, its owner went against the written down agreement trying to treble the room rates. When i said I would move out next day his accountant asked us to stay for the sake of his staffs wages at the agreed rates. Quite frankly the place is noisy and very run down, obviously the owner does not invest in upgrading things. We would have stayed because the staff really did try hard to please and were doing their best for not much income. But it got so silly with the owner, as we had agreed B & B and he wanted to charge double HB rate. Next day when we went for breakfast after a night of dodgy tummy after eating at their restaurant we asked for just toast without the normal fruit or egg and sausage and then told when we asked for 4 slices of dry toast we had to pay for more than 2. until the disagreement we had often had more toast.
Annoying was the way we were treated and the obviously racist attitude of the owner towards my black brother in law who had arranged things for us.

We kindly refer to your review in which you called us racist.
We found that to be very offensive and uncalled for.
I did not know the person you sent to us, it happened to be your brother in law, neither knew him by his name . He came as any other agent booking for his client in turn of a commission.
That is why I referred him to you as '' the boy '' (youngman).
Unless there is a new meaning for the word racist by calling someone as ''a boy'' it does not amount for someone to be called racist.
We accept any genuine criticism from our clients to rectify our mistakes
Regards the items of the breakfast we as managment do not allow extra charges.

In Kilifi there is no other choice for a budget holiday. There are three 4 stars hotels but very expensive. The Makuti Villas, which is undergoing renovations, is a quiet nice place with the rooms around a garden with a swimming pool in the middle. The restaurant offers african, continental and Italian menu. There is a wood-hoven working all the day to make many kind of mouthwatering pizzas. The staff is friendly and always ready for your needs.

Room Tip: Le stanze a sud sono più silenziose.

Makuti Villas is a pretty rustic motel in Kilifi. A large group of students and lecturers stayed here for 8 days whilst attending a conference at nearby Pwanu University College. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The motel is neat and tidy, although a bit run down, however it is really very cheap so i can't really complain. My room was quite large but very basic with a big bed with a mosquito net ( Kilifi is a malaria endemic area) and a wardrobe. I must not have had an executive room as there was no TV but we worked long hours every day so it was fine. The bathroom is basic with a basin, toilet and shower. However the mirror was cracked and there is hot water only between 6am and 10am, so I had a cold shower every day because it is absolutely boiling in Kilifi. My room was clean, with fresh towels every day. There is also a ceiling fan, which helps for the stifling heat. The pool is huge and the barmen are always around, chatting and serving ice cold Tuskers. I ate pizza twice in the restaurant, which was quite yummy.
I would recommend the motel if you are looking for something clean and affordable but don't expect anything fancy. The motel does get pretty busy and noisy on weekends as outside guests can come for the day to swim and enjoy the facilities. All in all it was a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Since we were scattered all over the motel it doesn't seem that there are any rooms that are qui...
