“Beautiful scenery”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We stayed one night on our way from Murchison to Bwindi. The grounds are just beautiful, I could of easily stayed a couple of days and relaxed if we had the time. Our room was basic but comfortable, with stunning views of the forrest and hills. The stone shower was awesome. We only had 2 meals, dinner and breakfast and they were both very tasty. There are dogs on the grounds and they did bark during the night but not constantly. We presumed there was either something or someone getting too close to their property. I can't comment on prices as we booked our tour through a safari company and it included all meals and accommodation

We spent 4 nights of our safari at Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse to enjoy Kibale Forest National Park (of course!), but the location is in proximity to other interesting sites. A Ugandan woman converted her house into a guesthouse after her British husband passed away and it has grown from the house to adding more private individual cabins as well.
The location is beautiful with expansive tea plantations surrounding you and views of Kibale Forest National Park with a veil of mist hanging over them (though it’s a bit sobering to realize the entire region used to be primary forest). The birding was fantastic, with many black-and-white casqued hornbills, black-violet weaver birds building colony of nests next to the main lodge, a pair of Gray parrots visiting daily and so much more! Our cabin was very cozy and private with beautiful and views and a stone bathroom. Food at the restaurant was delicious and watching the sunset over the tea plantations and Frog Crater Lake was lovely. It was a very restful stay after accomplishing a life-changing chimpanzee experience. Because our daughter was only 13 (not old enough to go on the mountain gorilla treks requiring age 15) we were absolutely thrilled!
In the area we also visited Bigodi community wetland/swamp which is fantastic for viewing other primates species than chimps (because we only heard or skimmed under them while focusing on finding and spending time with the chimps) and birds (especially Great Blue Turraco). We also went bicycling in the crater lakes area with access to Amabere Caves and waterfalls not far from Fort Portal.
We are very grateful that our safari company gave us the option of this guesthouse are are happy we stayed there!

This guesthouse is in the most beautiful setting, overlooking the lake on one side and the Chimpanzee Forest on the other. The original homestead is preserved as it was, with thatched bandas dotted around the extensive lawns and gardens. The rooms are comfortable enough, though not luxurious, but you don't need more - you don't come here to spend time on your room.
The dining room is open sided. with lounge views over the hills, a well-stocked bar, cold beer and attentive service. A brilliant place for your sundowner. The food is tasty, serves are generous, and atmosphere welcoming. We stayed 2 nights, visiting the forest and the Bigodi Community Wetlands, very worthwhile.
If there was a swimming pool here, I could stay for a long time.

Room Tip: Overlooking the Kibale Forest is the best view

Beautiful campsite position overlooking tea plantations and volcanic lakes. Camping was affordable, with hot showers and clean toilets. However, the food and cottage accommodation was hugely overpriced, and we found the staff to be somewhat condescending and rude. Ended up buying food from village and cooking it ourselves for a 100th of the price.

We recently camped here while visiting the national park. We were very warmly welcomed with a cold fruit juice but the staff seemed to lose interest and become quite condescending soon after arrival. Awesome setting with hot showers. Meals seemed excessively priced(ended up using the camp stove). Gazebo had loungers requiring cushions but were told no cushions available. Over priced by Ugandan standards and left a little dissappointed.

Bear in mind we did camp but at the prices they are charging you would expect a little more. We landed up walking down the road for a kilometer and getting drinks, fresh chiapatti and bananas for less than a tenth of the price of their dinner be it not as grand. The cottages are pretty average from what I could see from the window. This said the camping was beautiful with warm showers and amazing views. Just bring your own cushions to sit on the chairs they provide. They designed to bruise bums. Slightly disappointing experience all in all.

Stayed here for a couple of nights on a trip to Uganda, and couldn't wait to leave. It is a glorified backpackers, and nothing more. It does have a great position, but that doesn't make up for the pack of dogs on the property, who bark throughout the night. Take earplugs if you intend staying here, otherwise you won't get much sleep. No sign of a manager anywhere, or at any time. Absolutely basic rooms. No drinking water in the room, and no torch, which you need to navigate to the restaurant at night. No fan in the room to cool you. No bedside pedestals, or bedside lamps. The list goes on and on. The staff are amateurish at best. And the food is clumsily prepared and served. Best to avoid, unless you have earplugs, and have a very high tolerance for poor service, and plain food. To be fair, the barman gets a bonus point. Friendly and enthusiastic. Nobody else there seems to give a damn.
