“Trail trial”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

How, even without the scrub, Melvill and Coghill managed to escape so far while chased by the Zulus, it begs to believe! Just when they thought they had managed, they were killed on the other side of the Buffalo River.
The trail was walked quickly on a pleasant day - but I could imagine how hot it might be in high summer. The river was also low, and you have to imagine it in full spate. The Lodge picked us up after a well-deserved beer and brought us back the last half mile. Would go back for this again.

“Amazing”

Being on the site of the battle and imaging what it must have been like. There is a museum in the Mission which makes it come alive.

“A visit to the graves of Lts. Melvill and Coghill at Fugitives Drift”
Reviewed 19 February 2013

Any visit to this spectacular part of KZN is always well worth the troble to ride out there. The roads are not always good, but I have driven it many times before. The tale of the death-defying two young officers is always a sure drawcard for especially Britsh military history buffs. Dramatic view of the Drift from the grave.

“Great experience”
Reviewed 11 February 2013

We came here largely because my wife is a huge fan of the film Zulu and we wanted to see the locations for ourselves.

The battlefield trips (we went to Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift) were memorable - Andrew and Charl were both very knowledgeable and took us round the battlefields explaining things in detail - spellbinding and a little humbling when you consider what happened in those places.
