“Beautiful rooms in an amazing setting”

I stayed at RDL at very short notice, and was really impressed with everything I saw. The units have clearly been a labour of love, and are not only clean and well maintained but have character also. The reception was great and I really felt as if the owners were bending over backwards to look after me. The farm track to get there is interesting, but easily accessible for most cars (I did it in a Ford Figo).

Would definitely recommend the tour guide Thulani. He has an excellent relationship with RDL and delivers the batlefield history with a lot of passion (especially good for the oft-ignored Zulu perspective). A great stay all-round.

Once you get over the 4.8 km of dirt track to get there; it really is a little gem. The owners have thought of everything, all the small touches that make a stay enjoyable and in a beautiful location.

After an interesting off road drive (definitely do not attempt in a low wheelbase car), this was a perfect find. Great location and accommodation & excellent service, together with good wholesome food cooked to order and brought to your unit. Spent a day visiting the local battlefields with Paul Garner, an extremely knowledgeable guide who is passionate about the history. Then the following day walked up the hill above Rorke's Drift with the other local guide Thulani Khuzwayo, who I also highly recommend, to get the Zulu perspective. There is also wonderful canine company at the Lodge - I really miss Max the Ridgeback!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We also thought it was a great find the day we drove up the farm track for the very first time. We appreciate it that our guests agree with us and that they are willing to share this find with the rest of the world.

We travel a great deal for business and have stayed in a variety of places in South Africa. Rorke's Drift Lodge was the perfect get away for a long weekend and we only left because we had to return to work. Our guide Thulani was fantastic.

Rorkes Drift Lodge was an incredible experience, not only because of its beautiful location but also because of the excellent service we received throughout our stay. Definitely a memorable occasion and we will definitely be returning for another stay.

After an adventurous 5 k approach on a dirt track we arrived in a haven of peace and beauty. Stunning landscapes, even viewable from our bathroom! Top quality accommodation in well thought-out modern, bright and well-equipped rooms. Extremely helpful and friendly service, added to the immeasurable pleasure of wonderful canine company - especially Max! - make this a perfect hideaway. Although a self-catering unit, one can opt for a prepared breakfast or dinner, we chose the latter, superbly cooked by our lovely maid Thuli. The whole experience couldn't be improved, and we look forward to returning (and staying longer!!).

Our unit was really well equipped and clean; the pillows dreamy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although fully equipped for self catering they will provide breakfast and dinner served to the units and picnics. We pre-ordered supper both nights and the simple fare was delicious.
We arranged the battlefields tour with Paul Garner and enjoyed a fascinating day of story telling at 3 important sites. Paul's extensive research and engaging presentation was definitely a highlight of our first trip to S Africa.
The last 5km of the journey is a dirt track and we would advise an SUV or a car with good ground clearance.
Rorkes Drift Lodge is a wonderfully peaceful stay and with views stretching for miles from every window this really is a special place to stay. We highly recommend a stay here.
