We stayed at the Marriott Downtown for 3 nights in March, 2006. This is a large concrete "fortress" property located on the edge of downtown. Rooms were OK, but in need of some TLC. The guest services book in the room was woefully out of date, and when I brought it to the front desk's attention, they only shrugged and said "we know". The public rooms in the hotel lack soul and are cold. Overall the hotel is rather dingy and cries for a makeover. Not a bad choice by any means, but not what I expect from a large Marriott property.

This hotel was not bad at all. I've been in all types of accomodations (business hotels to 5-Star luxury resorts). I have stayed in so much worse before. Perhaps all the complaining reached the ear of the "Powers That Be" and measures were taken to correct the issues.

The only issue I had was that the woman checking me in was trying to mess with me. I guess she thought it would be easier to say that there were no rooms in my requested category than to just do her job and find one. Eventually, once she realized that I was on to her, the room I requested miraculously appeared!

Overall, though, it really wasn't that bad. Stay here if you need to for business.

I have never stayed at a Marriott hotel,however, i did this past weekend. There's no way I'd ever stay there again. The bellmen were totally slow,one of the bellman told me he'd be right back and was gone forever. The rooms are not soundproof in the least. I could hear the people nextdoor laughing all night the first night there. THe second night there were parties all night long. I was so upset, with the noice. The drapes don't close.
I did have a view of the new ball diamond in Greesnboro from my room.
I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have stayed at this hotel 2x-- 1st Stay was for 2 nights and the second was to be for 1, but it was so bad that I left for the Airport Marriott.

Where do I begin? During my 1st stay 1 had to switch rooms 2x due to soiled linens (in my initial room, and also the one they moved me into). Internet service didn't work in either room, and when they knew that the problem was their's, they still had me spend hours on the phone w/ Tech support. The bathroom floors were in need of being scrubbed. I notified the manager of the problem with the sheets & cleanliness and it fell on deaf ears.

Suprisingly, I had a 2nd stay at this Marriott. Upon check-in, I tried to work and check email, but the internet service was down again. Remembering my last experience, I pulled back the covers and checked the sheets-- absolutely disgusting! They had brown, caked-on stains. There is no way that any hotel would have put these on a bed. I called the manager and requested he come to my room. He saw the sheets, was disgusted, and called the head of housekeeping. I explained my previous experience w/ cleanliness at the hotel and they promised it was a fluke. Flukes don't happen 3x in 3 different rooms. They agreed to move me to a new room. I walked in, turned down the bed, and these sheets were also dirty with drops of yellow & red stains. These linens looked as if they were probably washed, but permanently stained-- strange, I was told these were Marriotts "New" linens. I packed my bag, went to the front desk and requested the manager. Unfortunately the manager had just left for the day. As I explained the problem to the front desk, the bellman decided to openly mock my experiences to another employee at the desk. He had recognized me from bringing me linens on my previous stay. I confronted him and he walked away.

At the front desk, I asked to be switched to the Airport Marriott. They arranged a switch, but let me know that my rate would not be honored at the other hotel-- That I even had a rate astounded me! By this time it was late, I was ridiculously upset, and I wanted a clean hotel.

I made it to the airport Marriott and my stay was what you would expect from a Marriott--consistent, pleasant, and CLEAN.

The next AM, I called the manager of the previous, dirty, Marriott and explained the experience after he left. He let me know that they terminated the housekeeper, and that there would be no more problems. First of all, I think they terminated the wrong person-- the head of housekeeping, the person who did the laundry, or primarily the hotel manager should take responsibility-- especially when they realized that this problem was widespread. The manager offered me NOTHING, no room, no discount, no apology-- nothing but to let me know that they fired a minimum wage housekeeper that probably needed that job to eat and feed her family.

I placed several complaints into Marriott Worldwide, and received no response. Finally, I checked my Marriott statement and saw that 10,000 points had been added to my account-- Big deal. When will companies realize that when people complain, that a response goes much further than worthless free points that are blacked-out most of the time?

With 2 horrible experiences, I would stay in a rental car before staying at this property.

Starting hint: get an even numbered room. The odd numbered rooms overlook the vents for the hotel machinery and the buzz is loud and unending.

I stayed two times at the Greensboro Marriott downtown because I had business around the corner. Both times I arrived on Sunday. I stayed one night the first time and three the second.

I was surprised mostly at how unhelpful many of the staff were. Problems were made my problem. For example, the first day I was there I could not get the internet connection to work (something that is never a problem for me when I go to hotels). I called the front desk and they told me to call the help-desk for the internet service provider. Turns out: the internet was down hotel wide. After two hours with the internet service provider I figured out that the problem was outside of my room, and when I called the desk to report it, they could care less.

The staff were also inconsistant regarding arranging taxi service; some were helpful, others gave me a phone number. The hotel restaurant opened late two of the four days I was there. And although I reported that there was a filthy, dusty vent in the bathroom, it was not cleaned during my stay.

On the plus side, though this hotel has a complete gym including a full set of weights, a good size pool, etc. right on the second floor, and is convenient to a lot of downtown Greensboro. The room was very large and although it was out-of-style, the bed was new and extremely comfortable.

What a great surprise for the price. This if a first class hotel at a great price and close to everything. My daughter goes to UNCG and this is such a nice place for what we paid. The staff was wonderful, and helpful as possible. The room was large clean and very nice. Will be here for the remainder of my daughters stay.
