“Challenging Bike Trail”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

There are soooo many bike and hiking trails around Greensboro some are more challenging then others. Just be sure that when you are planning to go that it has not rained to much or in many cases they will have the trail closed so as not to destroy the trail.

“Lake Brandt's, and other adjacent watershed trails, are amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

I have walked these trails and visited nearby attractions dozens of times, and will continue to do so. Each visit/walk is unique and interesting. The scenic and bucolic walking/running/biking trails around and near Lake Brandt (including Owl's Roost - nationally known mountain bike route, the greenway, Piedmont, Nat Greene, and Palmetto), adjoining Lake Higgins (including Bald Eagle - aptly named) and Lake Townsend (including Blue Heron and Townsend), comprise the best series of trails in any urban area in North Carolina, and are a model for other urban areas. In this area alone are about 50 miles of trail, most of it unpaved, natural and well-marked. Get a copy of the good map or area trails at BurMil Wildlife Center or Lake Brandt marina office.

Add to these trails the 10-15 miles of trails around nearby Guilford Battleground and Country Park, and the greenway in that direction, and you really have wonderful recreational opportunities, at little or no charge. The citizens of Guilford County have approved many millions of dollars for open-space and watershed bonds in recent years to protect these in perpetuity. A visit to the adjacent Guilford National Battleground Park and visitors center (hundreds of acres and trails), nearby new (2013) first-class Science Center/Aquarium, and Burmil Park and Wildlife Center (with par 3 golf and driving range, plus picnic tables and fishing) adds even more options. While many visit all of these regularly, alas they are not as well known as they deserve to be. The trails and parks are suitable for individuals, couples and families, including children of all ages. Nearby casual but tasty dining choices are many, and include Giacamo's, Ham's, Jenn's Diner, Danny's, Poblano's, Vietnamese Garden, and Stamey's BBQ. Google Piedmonthikingandoutingclub.org, for an organization that walks these (and other area) trails on a very regular basis, and would welcome you to come along and check out a trail or two.

“Amazing trails off the beaten path”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

I feel like no one knows about the Watershed trails. Owl's Roost is a lot of fun for bikers, and I particularly like Wild Turkey (it's a bit less technically challenging). The hiking is great as well, with the Palmetto trail and a few others (I mostly bike). Great views of the lake. I almost always run into some deer on my ride - which is really cool. Pretty secluded - these trails don't seem to get much traffic. Which is wonderful :)
