I love Longhorn! The parmesean crusted chicken is excellent. Great service, great staff! Never had a bad experience at a Longhorn.

I generally do not write reviews about chain restaurants. Many people already have a settled opinion. In this case, there are infrequent times when Longhorn, like most other restaurants, has a chef on duty who doesn't know the difference between medium rare and past-well-done-to-leather. Or when a chef thinks "blackened" has to do with cooking time. If that happens to you here, and you are quiet about it, you may settle on a bad opinion. But if you nicely and even casually point out something that does not fully meet your approval here, the manager will take a personal interest and make it right (or will do so later if you do not wish to cause embarrassment in front of your companion). Granted, most restaurants will do that.

So with that long lead in, why do I prefer Longhorn over Outback, or even Ruth's Chris or Chop House? I do because Longhorn consistently provides an outstanding meal for a reasonable price. I love their appetizer bread, even after they changed recipe's a few years ago. The salad is always fresh and crisp (ok, iceberg is not as healthy as other lettuce leaves, but when it's fresh and crisp, it is, to me, a pleasant occasional alternative).

There there's Longhorn's steaks. For me there is one choice, the Flo's Fillet, blackened, medium rare. Perfection in steak. Aged, fresh, tender, and oh so delicious. There are times when it is so good that it is hard to carry on a conversation.

Outback is priced similarly, but they have never, for me, hit the consistency of a great steak as I've enjoyed at Longhorn.

Chop House: high cost and inconsistent chefs. Ruth's Chris: I suspect they never have a bad chef night. If you like your steak soaked in butter (albeit not as badly as some years ago), then you can count on getting a delightful steak...and pay more than double for it for the atmosphere.

So for me, when the mood strikes that it's time for a good steak, I turn to Longhorn and a casual atmosphere.

Longhorn has got to be the best kept secret in Greensboro. What I like best; Great menu, fast service, pretty good price/value. What I like worst; only once was service a bit slow - but 9 out of 10 times, it's fast and friendly! (And, anyway, it's impossible to find a restaurant that can't occasionally have a service fail). We eat at Longhorn about once a month and every time I look forward to it!
