We booked this through ATR Travel - who are vastly overpriced and I'd recommend trying another travel company. We arrived and saw at least 15 large rock rats running around the dinning area - some of them up on the bar. They're quite cute looking but there's too many of them. All the way into the camp were blue and black flags to signal there was a totsi fly infestation in that area (ATR never told us about this)

Our tent was clean and the shower a small trickle of water. I understand that water is scare out in the middle of nowhere but for $280 a night per person I expected a little more.

The staff were lovely and I can't fault their service. There was no choice with the food but it was quite good.

The view is great. There is no walk around Bungunga lake like ATR say on their brochure. It's such so expensive for something that's just OK. There must be more regulations on the Safari industry they seem to charge what they like - the price does not go with the quality.

Hello, my name is Denis LEBOUTEUX, the director of Mount Kilimanjaro Safari Club and owner of Maweninga Camp. I would like to reply to this comment as I believe some of it must be commented.
To start with, Rock Rats should not be called as such ; the proper name is Hyrax and like any other wild animal, they are part of the National Park and we can't prevent them from living in rocks around our camp. They are not dangerous, nor are they filthy. There is a large number of them, but our guests like the sight of them and they are good companions when staying at Maweninga.
Tse Tse blue & black flags : This is regulated by park authorities and we can indeed see them in various parts of Tarangire, not only around Maweninga. I have been myself to Tarangire a few times (to say the least...) and all camps/ lodges in the park do have Tse Tse flags surrounding their properties. And I believe ATR do warn their guests about this aspect in their "Reasons to not visit" section.
As for the walk around Lake Burunge, this can be done but you can't walk from the camp as ATR do mention (you first need t head to the Park western border and then start walking from there).
Having said that, I was glad to read that these guests enjoyed our facilities, staff & unbeatable view. And again knowing Tarangire pretty well, I don't think Maweninga is overpriced compared to other properties which would not offer such good value for money.
1 final word about Africa Travel Resource : we have been long time partners and these people do know what they are talking about. They are all Tanzania lovers & experts and they are truly the right people to go with.

A small permanent tented camp site that looks over the Tarangire. The accomodation was good (as good as it gets for a tented camp!), the location and view are unbelievable. The staff were incredibly helpful. Really can't find a bad thing to say about the place!

We stayed at this lovely tented camp at the end of our safari and had opportunity to enjoy it for two nights. The views over Tarangire National Park from each lodge style tent are amazing and if you love hyrax, you will be in animal heaven. Nights around the campfire talking to the ranger were wonderful - imaging sitting on granite rock high above the park stars sparkling all around you! Not to forget the sundowners and views across to the lake.

This was our first stop on our safari and we were very impressed. We were there toward the end of the busy season so we were the only guests. They have a really cool fire pit that you can hang out at with the Maasai. Our cabin overlooked the incredible scenery. It was a few years ago so I apologize that I cannot remember many specifics, but it was very cool and I highly recommend it.

Mawe Ninga may be smaller and lack the pool, breakfast buffet etc that you think you want before you set off, but it makes up for it with individually cooked breakfasts and a location that will take your breath away. The rooms were beautiful, clean and well appointed - the shower doesn't gush but stil gets you clean and the chemical toilet worked as a conventional one does - I was expecting something far worse from previous reviews! The evening meals had no choice but were well prepared and delicious. Staff were attentive without seeming to be angling for their tip.

The clincher for us were the views. Each room has a private balcony which is not overlooked but which gives marvellous views over the lake and hills across the plain - and faces the sunset which is the perfect ened to the day. We didn't see any large animals nearby but the peacefulness, ambience and attentivness of the staff made this a place we would be happy to return to. It's also one of the less expensive lodges run by a quality outlet whose philosophy is to allow the locals to get on and run the place - and this seems to work well. It gave us the most wonderful Safari experience and \i would recommend it to all.

Mawa Ninga is part of MKSC group which is French owned and also operates other camps such as Olaado, Ronjo and Olduvai.

Mawa Ninga is located on top of Tarangiri Hill and has a gorgeous panoramic view over Lake Manyara and Lake Burundi.
There are 8 fixed tent like cabins with shower (tank) and real toilet which are nicely appointed and all have a balcony , some with a nice view. In front of the restaurant is a fire pit with lounge chairs which is great for drinks at sundown. The staff is friendly and service can be expedited a bit through tipping. A lone Masai assists with various tasks while dressed in traditional clothing which must include a special pocket for his cellphone. Food is average but good which can be expected for such a remote location. Bring bug spray and watch the Tse Tse flies. Good location to see elephants. Good place for romance!

The Mawe Ninga camp is in a great position in the heart of the Tarangire National Park, which means that you can enjoy a great game drive on the way to the camp. The accommodation is simple, although having a proper shower and toilet felt like luxury, considering the remote location. Our Tent also had a little balcony so you could enjoy the sunset and the beautiful scenary. The restaurant is situated in an elevated position from where you can enjoy the view, after dinner you can sit around the fire and chat or simply enjoy the sounds of Africa. The staff was nice, possibly a bit shy. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this camp. Also, a lot of people we met on safari did not have Tarangire on their itinerary but it was an amazing part of our holiday and personally i'd recommend not to miss it while in Tanzania.
