“So much game!”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

I was overwhelmed by the warmth of the staff at Swala as well as the wealth of game located in camp. Woke up in the night to an elephant chasing a lion away from the watering hole that is located right on the property! Lots of night noises, which I loved. Tarangire National Park is beautiful and has great game.

Room Tip: All the tents here are well located, but if you want to sit on your deck and watch game, ask for a t...

To get to Swala you have to drive virtually the whole way across the national park with the roads getting ever worse as you progress - this is not a negative as you are in a vehicle which can handle it, you get away from the day trippers into an area that is a little less travelled and the trip across is a game drive anyway. I would greatly recommend it just for its positioning - but there is more - once you get there your are in a well organised, very comfortable camp. The welcome is wonderful, great attention to detail and great food - if you are a bit fussy, Chris and Ming will handle that with aplomb. I was amazed to find such luxury in such a remote place. Great hands on management and quality staff make a big difference.

I have just read some of the other reviews and noticed that all I can add to each and every one of them is that this is a fantastic hotel with all of the amenities found in a very luxurious hotel. Taking into account that this is soooo far from civilization.
Chris and all of his personnel couldn't be nicer and helpful in every way. We were celebrating our 50th anniversary with the family so they offered us a surprise show and a beautifully decorated cake . We will never forget this marvelous hospitality.
I also would have loved to stay there a few more days to just sit and relax. The animals come in droves to the water hole which is located in front of the rooms and dinning room. Quite an experience. We had monkeys and impalas roaming the grounds at all times; the zebras and elephants also walked by all day but kept their distance.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are good, but some are a bit far from the social area.

This really is a sanctuary. Gracious welcoming hosts, amazing luxurious tented accommodations . I wish we could have stayed longer. We were lucky enough to get the tent with the deck that had a bench built into the baobab tree, I just wanted to lounge there the whole time! We had a lovely dinner under the stars, with the Masai guards to protect us from the wild animals, as this is not a fenced camp. We heard lions during the night near the camp, and actually saw a family of lions on the road just outside the lodge. Tarangire Park is stunning, I took so many great photos. Thanks for giving us such a wonderful introduction to the beauty and hospitality of Tanzania !

Room Tip: The room with the baobab tree bench is great!

I stayed at Sanctuary Swala on an A&K safari trip for 2 nights. This is glamping for sure. The tents were clean and comfortable. Was my favorite place to stay throughout my tour, for sure. Chris and Mina are very nice and the staff make sure they meet your every need. The best part of staying here is the view outside the veranda. Your a just a few feet from African wildlife. There weren't mosquitos or tse tse flies that bothered me while on the property. Word of advice: I went end of June and it got quite cold in the evening. The tent does not have heating, so bring warm layers to sleep in.

Utterly stunning lodge in Tarangire NP - we only got to stay a night but soooooo wish we could have stayed longer. The managers and team were fantastic, decore utterly stunning and to top it all off there were impala that were very uninterested in humans just wondering about all over camp. :)

This was the first "camp" that we stayed at to start our fabulous safari. We booked through A&K which made everything very easy and they were very informative. Once we landed on the small airstrip we were in aw, we soon realized we were in the middle of no where. Dominique was our guide and he was so intelligent and very knowledgeable about all the animals and the vast land. The camp was meticulously taken care of and the rooms were large and clean. We enjoyed hanging out on your patio looking over the watering hole and enjoying the sounds of nature, very serene. We did a late afternoon drive accompanied with a bottle of wine we were able to enjoy at sunset. The food was great and always well presented and prepared. The camp was very quiet when we stayed only 4 of us were there. The staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable, we enjoyed some wine while conversing with them. They keep you on schedule with coffee wake up calls and informing you of what the next days plan is. Overall a amazing stay. *beware of the use-tse flys, they are not in the camp but on the drives. Cover up.
