“Heavenly Treetops”

From the moment of our arrival to our much too quick departure, our every need was attended to with outstanding detail. From Johan and Lori, Nicholas and the entire staff, we were treated like royalty. The accommodations were very comfortable with our open air room during the day and zipped up coziness at night. While sipping our morning beverages from our rocking chairs on our balcony we witnessed some of the most peaceful beautiful vistas. In the evening we could watch storms pass from a distance.
The food was outstanding and our safari day trips were expertly guided by Alex. Hoping that the opportunity arises to return someday!

We stayed in this amazing place for two nights and everything was great! The service was impeccable, the rooms are to die for, the staff really friendly and we were even blessed with the presence of elephants at the waterhole at dawn!!! Definitely coming back!! :)

We were amazed when our guide found got us to the lodge. There are no marked roads or signs. And suddenly, we were there. The service was amazing. The staff was very welcoming. Martina immediately attended to our needs and remembered everything that we liked to make our stay memorable. The accommodations were wonderful. And it was a treat to wake to the sound of lions nearby. I highly recommend Treetops if you are traveling to Tarangire.

This was the first stop on our safari which included three Ellewana Collection Lodges. Treetops is located smack in the middle of Maasai territory. So as you're driving the the lodge you are passing through Maasai grazing land. But don't take a picture! In order to do that you must pay the person that you want to take a picture of. But Treetops does employ Maasai to work as security and, therefore, while at the lodge, you can snap away. One aspect of the entertainment is that the Maasai do come and perform after a great bar-b-q. As for the rooms and the bath rooms, they are spacious. We had a great view of the rolling savanna. Our room was at the end of the line of accommodations. You need to have security walk you to your room because the camp is "open" meaning any animal can walk around. We had two teenage Maasai walk us back. I asked them what they would do if we encountered a lion. The typical answer is "don't run". Their answer? One pulled out his walkie talkie and said "I'd call for help."
The rooms are located in the tops of baobab trees with limbs of the trees coming through the top of the room. The staircase to the room is very narrow and circular. For the physically challenged, this needs to be taken into consideration. It was a wonderful place to start our extraordinary safari.

We had the privilege of staying at this wonderful hotel for our honeymoon in nov 2013. The staff went above and beyond to assure that our stay was wonderful. We were greeted with a welcome drink and taken to our treetop room where we were welcomed with a beautiful Masai honeymoon tradition. Our room was absolutely magical. The sunset was unlike no other I've experienced. The room is situated in the bush and elephants were right outside our balcony. The food was top notch and the overall dining experience so special. We stayed up at the lodge and had cocktails with the general manager Johan who was fantastic. He also went above and beyond to make sure our stay was superb! We were only at the resort for one evening but I only wish we had more time there. I would highly recommend this wonderful place!!

Africa Day 1 --- Tarangeri National Park
We arrived in Tarangeri Park in a late afternoon Tropical drizzle.
As we arrived, we were greeted by one of is residents looming out of a rainy shadow!
Next stop was Treetops Lodge where we would stay for the next three nights. Treetops is a special place that should be on every Safari itinerary. Our “room” was an elegant tent placed in the branches of a tree overlooking the bush.
The elegance included a dual shower, large vanity, and a king bed leading to a wraparound veranda. Very comfy. The Lodge itself is a spacious open structure facing a swimming pool deck and a slope falling down to a watering hole. Dining is on an open veranda and drinks are served on an adjacent veranda.
Our introduction to Africa began on the drinks veranda just at sundown. Shadows were beginning to close in when one of the staff made a commotion and we saw what turned out to be a Waterbuck at the watering hole. Suddenly, the Waterbuck began thrashing about and making hideous moans. The shadows were now so thick that it took the keen eyes of our Guide, Raphael, to spot a gang of African Black Dogs attacking the Waterbuck. Its moans turn to a final scream, and then all was quiet. In the deep shadows, the Dogs feasted on their kill.
A few moments later, a delightful young lady named Queen, introduced herself and explained that she would be our assigned Hostess for the duration of our stay. We quickly became good friends and we remember her great service very fondly. Queen led us to the dinner veranda for an excellent meal, and we then retired to our treetops tent for a sound night of rest.
At breakfast the next day, Terry observed that the drama last night had conveyed the reality of life and death in the Bush in an abrupt and immediate fashion. There was no question that we were well and truly in the Africa where every day must be lived for the moment.

Treetops is an excellent stop in Tarangire. The accommodations are very good, the ambiance, hospitality & food was excellent but I question the overall "value for money" While we asked for a breakdown of costs, our Tour company would not provide such a breakdown (this lack of transparency bothers us) but we were told it was low season and the costs averaged between $500-$700 per person for full board (breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner). High season rates we were told are closer to US$1000 per person! We consdier this to very high for what we would consider a 4-STAR property - especially in a developing country like Tanzania where the average housekeeper makes less than $150 per month!.

All in all a great place with questionable value. Suggest you ask for a breakdown of costs and then decide if there are other equally good alternatives

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent. Just make sure you know what and how much you are paying-packaged tours are...
