“Wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed 14 October 2012

This luxury camp is situated outside of the Tarangire National Park when coming from Arusha. When we were there the usual managers had taken a break and Tania was their replacement. She is everything a manager should be, welcoming, warm, instructive, full of personality and a leader. The tents were clean and comfortable. They in fact do your washing for you as part of the price you pay. Nice touch. The eating facilities are very welcoming and gives you a chance to meet fellow travelers, firstly over drinks and nibbles (free) and then over a delicious dinner cooked to perfection. The same applies to breakfast. The lunch boxes supplied to us were also delicious. It is a privilege to stay here and when you leave you will not regret paying for this service.

Room Tip: Ask for a tent as close as possible to the dining area

My husband and I went there for 2 nights and really loved it. It is very high end but you are really out in the bush with all the wonderful game around you. I was so sad to have had to say goodbye but hope to come back one day.

My daughter and I stayed 2 nights at Oliver's camp in Tarangire. The camp has all the amenities of a luxury hotel and yet it is in the middle of wilderness. Every little details inside the cabin tent are well thought of. The service and attention that the staff provide to each guest room are fabulous. The food is also very good. The outdoor shower is the best thing. The walking safari is worth to pay extra for, after all the times traveling by car for safari drive.
I recommend Oliver's camp.

We actually stayed last year (July 2011) but reading some reviews lately I thought I'd add my tuppence worth. Oliver's is certainly one of the best camps in Tanzania, almost certainly the best in Tarangire and is quite a special place. The location is remote, which is a bonus, so you get virtually the whole of the south end of the park to share with just your fellow guests at Oliver's. It sits on a rise above a river so you get a view out over the valley below, how good depends on your particular lodge and how well the vegetation has been cut back.
Tarangire is Elephant country and Oliver's sits at the south end of a swamp area which attracts them in their hundreds, possibly thousands. So if you like elephants this is the place to be. It is also teaming with bird life, so again attracts a lot of twitchers. You will see just about everything else though as well, as we did. Only exception I think was rhino.
Staff are fantastic, Ken has things ticking over like clockwork, and you are made to feel like part of a big family.
Saving the best to last - do the walking safari. Don't think of excuses like can't afford or I might get attacked or some other limp get out. Do it and you will love it, it adds a completely different dimension to safari, you will see so much more and you will gain more on your subsequent travels through the parks. Simply a must.
Olivers, a great camp, well run, stunning and remote location and a must stay if going to this part of the world.

Room Tip: Not really any bad rooms, all have fantastic views, just book early!

Got here on day two of our trip after a long journey and a full days game driving. Wonderful camp in the south of the park (this oddly was one of our only gripes - the best game viewing is towards the north). Tents are wonderful and the outdoor bucket showers are great! Gin and tonics around the camp fire were very welcome and food was delicious (quite hearty for that sort of place). Good hosts who are very clued up on their passion which is wildlife photography. Couldn't recommend it more really - we were sad to leave!

From the moment that your four wheel drive stops, in what feels like the middle of the African bush, you know that this will be special experience.
Oliver’s Camp, managed by Ken and Michelle, has the most welcoming and attentive staff, whose hospitality compliments the very essence of the sense of freedom the East African wilderness offers.
The camp’s architecture blends with nature, enhances the sensors with a blend of canvas and thatch, and leaves one with sense of being part of the bush.
We were fortunate enough to meet a walking safari guide Ethan, who shared his vast knowledge about Africa with us not only walking, but also in evenings around the fire and over dinner.
Thank you, Ken and Michelle, Jackson, Sophet, Ethan and all the exceptional staff for your wonderful hospitality and assisting us to awaken our sensors.
P&J

Room Tip: There is no such thing as a better room at Oliver's Camp. They are all good.
