Remember the movie "The Lion King" where the lion tells his son, "One Day, Simba, All of This Will be Yours"? [On YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMQ32ITin30 ] This is how you feel when you first come to Tarangire Safari Lodge. The lodge is located in the Tarangire National Park, so don’t be surprised if you see Dikdiks, vervet monkeys or antelopes around your tent.
But let’s start in the morning: Coming out of the tent around 7 o'clock, the guards and some tourists pointed out a lioness lying in a tree (far enough away). After a short swim in the hotel pool, we had a good breakfast, self service with pancakes, toast with jam, porridge and fruits in the main house. After an excellent safari in the park, we enjoyed a sundowner (Gin Tonic - supposed to be a good protection against malaria ;-)) with an astonishing view from the terrace over the landscape. You can watch the wild animals from uphill over a wide space. At some water spots you see Gnus, Elephants cruising, Giraffes... and again a lioness far away in a tree. For dinner a soup was served and the buffet was very good.
The staff is very kind, the lodge very clean and the tents, with individual showers and toilets in the back of the tent, gave us the real Safari feeling. The lobby, comfortable an cosy louge and the dining room offer wifi, although it did not work while we were there. At the bar you can charge your cameras, phones, laptops etc – because at night power is completly switched off.
The lodge was a real highlight during our safari and we recommend at least one night.
