MeaLea has been a highlight of our 2 month travels in Thailand and Cambodia. Huge room with double and single four poster super comfortable beds. Private terrace to each room with its own little lily pond. Swimming pool overlooking the ocean and minutes away from the crab market. Very well maintained place, lovely exotic gardens, room cleaned and fresh towels and bedlinen every day. Lovely friendly staff and very helpful manager who did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast included in the price was very good. The only reason for not giving MeaLea "excellent" is, although they provide breakfast and there is a well stocked bar, they is no option for lunch or dinner, but there are restaurants very close by Booked for three nights, stayed ten it was so lovely, peaceful and totally relaxing.Would definitely return to this little gem.

We just came back from Kep. We spent 3 nights at the Mealea Resort. It was a pleasant stay. We got room number 8 after been transferred from number 1, where there was a strong sewage small. Staff is helpful and very kind. The location is great. Definitively, I recommend it and I will stay there next time I go Kep.

We booked a last minute deal on Agoda. The small bungalow hotel seemed quite deserted with only one other guest as far as we could tell. As we were leaving, I locked the bathroom door (the bathrooms do not have roofs and there are no safe in the room) but was astonished to learn that it could not be unlocked by the room key. I went to the reception and it turned out that they did not have a key either. In the end one of the staff had to get a ladder to climb over the wall from the neighbouring bungalow to get the door unlocked.

The pool had not been cleaned properly and green algae was growing in the less accessible places. The water did not seem like it had proper pool chemicals added recently.

In the night we were awoken by a large rat trying to chew its way through our luggage. We scared it away, and in the morning we stepped over the rat droppings and told the receptionist about it. He grabbed a can of rat poison from under the reception desk and told me they had been trying to get rid of the rat for some time. He was apologetic but hotel management does not seem to understand just how dangerous rats are - especially 15 meters from the hotel kitchen.

All in all it seems like this could be a nice little hotel but the management does not seem to know entirely what they are doing. Small things like

* supplying sufficient toilet paper so the guests do not get the "toilet angst"
* changing locks for which there are no keys
* getting professionals to get rid of rodents
* printing a sign saying "Reception" instead of "Tip box for staff"
* cleaning the pool instead of surfing youtube videos
* installing in-room safes
* generally painting and cleaning up the place
* not advertising a strip of trash-ridden public pavement as a "private beach"

would really lift this place up where they could justify the price they are charging. Even with the last minute discount much better places can be found in the area for the same rates.

Resort has a new owner since a few months which seem to have changed things for the better. The location is great, walking distance (at least for Dutch distances) to the crab market en Kep beach. Resort has a nice pool and a kind of "beach" (just across the road, nice for sunsets and a drink). The "beach" is more like a sitting area, no sand beach. The sea bed is a bit stony the first 10 m, after that one has sand. Good to bring water shoes. Personnel is helpful, but English is relative poor and probably staff is relatively new so not that used to wishes of tourists (better be explicit if you want something changed/cleaned). Big rooms with nice shower (at least the poolside ones). Sombath is really helpful and speaks English well (he helped out a few times and even brought me to a restaurant), so best to approach him during the stay. Breakfast was good (omelette, fruit). Bottom line is that things can be improved, but the great location, the rooms/facilities and the reasonable price made it a very good stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at pool are great, but miss a bit of privacy.

This charming, small boutique get-a-way has recently changed owners and has been renamed as Mea Lea Resort. The rooms are comfortable and vert clean and the staff is super friendly. Plus, the location unbeatable for Kep, just a short walk to the Crab Market

This hotel has a great location and could have so much going for it as it is opposite a little beach and the crab markets. But it feels like no one cares. Staff that weren't very helpful, a room with a very smelly bathroom and brown water, a bright green pool that you couldn't swim in (and one of the only reasons we booked this hotel was because it had a pool, as the days were so hot while we were there). When my husband complained about the pool he got told it was because they had put the wrong mix of chemicals into the pool and it would be fine in a couple of hours but it wasn't even when we checked a couple of days later. Ants in our breakfast, stale bread and you had to pay extra for juice and fresh fruit - which was the first and only time that we had to do this in our whole month of travel throughout Vietnam and Cambodia.

We booked in for two nights but left after the first night!

The hotel is small but very welcoming and the rooms are big and spacious (we stayed in one of the red clay ones), there is a small but sufficient pool and an open restaurant area. The hotel is situated across the road from the 'private beach' (really a sandy topped sea wall with some tables and chairs) which is a fantastic place for breakfast and to watch the sunset. Nicholas the French owner is a wealth of local information and definitely worth talking to. He recommended the Sunset restaurant in the crab market (about 200m away but not close enough to disturb) which was fantastic. I would also highly recommend a trip to the Sailing club for evening drinks. Downsides in the hotel would be that if the shower is not pointed correctly there is a tendency for water to flow into the room, the toilets can be a bit fiddly flushing and the breakfast was pretty average (with the exception of the Mango Jam which is insanely good...). All in all, a great little base to explore Kep for a couple of days.
