Owner description: The joint mausoleum of Emperor Jingdi and Empress Wang, his consort.

This museum is located out near the airport - refreshingly missed by the hoards of tourists - but absolutely well worth the visit especially as you can combine it with seeing the Tomb/Mausoleum of Emperor Jingdi. It serves as an overflow museum for the hundreds of artefacts that were found around his tomb and excellent conservation and reconstruction allows you to see how many of the items would have looked all those years ago. Look out for the very famous statue of the lady dancing on her knees as per the picture on your ticket. Commute between the tomb/mausoleum and the museum by electric bus or a short walk through some wonderful landscaped gardens

Visited this museum before the famous warriors and it set the tone for what was to come and helped to put the different rulers/dynasties in perspective.

We visited this site with our private guide and driver after visiting the Terracotta Warriors the day previously.

The museum in very well laid out with glass floors that allow one to view the pits below and large windows that run close to the viewing platform. One can also see the excavation much better than with the Warriors. Further, one can see the much smaller figures in much more detail. Finally, the visitors are far, far fewer in number and there is a museum-like serenity, as opposed to the circus of the Warriors.

The bottom line is see both. They both merit a visit and are 5 star attractions.

We visited Han Yang Ling few days after Terracota Warriors and find it a gem. So much history and unique experience looking at the exhibits so closely. The movie is quite interesting as well, and because there are so few visitors, we had the whole theatre to ourselves. We were told that it would take abt 1 hr to tour the museum but we spent more than double the time. It's on the way to the airport so if you have time to spare, it's worth the visit.

This exceptional museum is equally as interesting as the much larger Terra Cotta Army site. The museum is the site of the archeological find of the Tomb of a Han emperor, viewing is arranged so that you can get very close to the soldiers walking above the glass covered finds of perfect miniature figures and animals. It is much quieter and very much worth a visit when in the area. I believe that it is also possible to see archaeologists working on the finds at certain times. Very interesting, especially as we visited before the Army site.
