“Fabulous place - WOW !!!”
Reviewed 26 October 2009

I went on a honeymoon to around 8 places in Kerala. All were 4-star properties throughout Kerala including Thekkady, Kovalam, Allepey, Cherai, Pattanapuram, Haripad and the like. What stands out was the time we spent in Pristine Islands.

The view was simply breath-taking. We loved the two days spent there.

The food was fantastic. We ordered a-la-carte and two people could easily eat the food served for one!!

I had a preview of Hillton Hotel in Maldives and this is the closest you can get to that in India along with Indian cuisine !!!

We did pedal boating, rafting. Rented out a kayak and throughly enjoyed the whole experience.

I have recommended it to all my close friends and would definitely go back there, when I can, in future.

Marvellous experience is all I can say about the whole experience at Pristine Islands.

Firstly d resort is no where near to how they show it in d pics...its too small to do anything...the manager n staff lied about the facilities ...we were told the menu was ala carte while booking and it turned out to be buffet when we reached dat to with them serving the same food everyday which gets too much when ur on a holiday to enjoy urself...by the end of it we were CRAVING good food...d promised sunset cruise never happened...also they forgot to mention about the so called renovation goin on which made the resort look shabby n dirty!!! we were woken up at 4 in d morning by a loud noise coming from under the cottage...so after contacting the maintainence it turned out it was a problem dat was reported previously as well and there was a motor dat would start running...(def not sumthing u want on a holiday)..we were overcharged ..the managers attitude totally changed when it was brought up to him...overall utterly ridiculous, dirty ,overpriced stay.,,nothing much to do...u better shell of sum extra money and stay at better resort if u really want a true keralan holiday...!!!

Pristine Island is truly pristine and divine. I and my husband decided to visit this place over the Oct.2nd weekend and had the best holiday ever. It was quiet, peaceful green and the view from the room was breath-taking. We stayed in the Floating Cottage Deluxe, our room was clean and spacious which had French windows and the view from the room was beautiful. I was surprised to see that the Website of Pristine Island has the actual pictures no Photoshop. (http://www.pristineisle.in/)

The staff was friendly and extremely co-operative. We loved the food and would highly recommend the Allepey Fish Curry and the Steamed Garlic Butter Fish which was better then the one served in some of the continental restaurants in Bangalore. It’s a great place for couple who want to spend time with each other, the resort organizes sunset cruise and has complementary kayaking and pedal boating.

I would highly recommend it to men who want to propose or couples who want to fall in love all over again!

They have an Ayurvedic Center which is on the land and a boat will take you to this place. There is a Doctor at this center who had some great recommendation and gave us good discounts. The staff at this center is honest and polite. The only negative is that the center only accepts “CASH” no credit card which makes it difficult if you are one of those people who are more comfortable with cards rather carrying cash to Holiday resorts.

  • Liked — Location-Peace and Quiet
  • Disliked — No Credit Card in Ayurveda Center

It was an excellent experience. We were little hesitant in the first place as this is rather unknown property in a village right in the middle of the backwater. However, me, my family and friends were thrilled at the experience. The service were excellent. Very friendly and co-operative staff. However, we have noted understanding English was a probelm (Cant expect it n a remote backwater village). The food was good. The ambience was superb. Real value for money and a must vist place for Honeymooners or those who enjoy with in themselves. The shikara boat cruice was memorable

No recreational facility other than an Ayurvedic Hospital which is in the main land. The bat ride and walking after the treatment was liitle harsh.

Overall experience was good and looking forward to visit ths place again

This is a prime example of how Hotel websites can deceive.

Pristine Island Resort is a a small locally owned hotel on a small island on Kaithapuzha Lake about one and a half hours north of Allappuzha Town.

Most of the rooms are floating cottages with excellent views across the lake. Unfortunately that completes the good bit of the review, as the rest is a story of unfulfilled potential.

The reception of the hotel is in an associated Ayurvedic Hospital, located closeby on the mainland in a rubbish strewn compound, behind high walls topped with barbed wire. The reception itself has all the charm of well a rather underfunded developing world hospital.

From the reception, one proceeds along a back road past drying fish and a fish processing plant to the dock for a short boat ride to the island.

The island is small, about 100 yards by 250 yards, with mainly grass and a few coconut trees. There are very few outside facilities - one hammock and two sun beds, so you are effectively trapped in your room.

The rooms are small with balconies only large enough to allow two chairs to fit sideways. The bathroom only has hotwater in the shower and unfortunately the water tank is so small, that one only has enough hot water to wash form the waist up, or from the waist down, not both .

The restaurant, which does have a wonderful view, unfortunately has bench seats, which gives it atmosphere of a factory canteen. Even for India the service was particularly atrocious, we ordered dinner at 7.30 and it eventually arrived at 9.15 and for the first half hour we were the only people in the restaurant! One of the problems was that the kitchen was quite a walk in the open air from the restaurant. I have no idea how they manage in the rainy season.

My wife went for a massage at the reception Ayurverdic hospital (which was relatively expensive). She complained the level of cleanliness was abysmal. At the end of the massage, she was given a bucket and a jug to wash off alongside a men's urinal and to crown it all, had to walk back through the smell of drying fish.

Finally, although we were told at reception the hotel accepted credit cards, when we asked for the bill at 8am the following morning, we were too early to use that facility, luckily we had cash.

We complained to our travel agent, who have taken it off their list of approved hotels (why they sent us there in the first place was never fully clarified).

No we do not reommend this hotel
