“The perfect budget stay :: Recommended”
Reviewed 30 October 2012

As during all our other trips, staying accounts for only the 5 or 6 hours we are indoors. Hence budget hotels/homestays are the only places we look for when we travel.
Thumbs Up :: Basic but clean, good location, perfect budget price, caretaker had the courtesy of sending an apology text for the issues due to lack of staff.
Thumbs Down :: Not too sure if breakfast included in price (this info was not communicated), probably the gap in communication was due to the absence of the main caretaker of the place.
But overall the experience was exactly what we expected, the perfect pad for a nights rest. I would definitely go and stay in Ashtamudi Homestay during my next trip to Allepey

Alleppey was the last stop in our Kerala tour, and Ashtamudi homestay was all that we could have asked for. My husband and I had made an online reservation, mostly because of the positive reviews we read online and because it was more reasonably priced than other hotels.
Ashtamudi is a traditional Kerala house converted into a homestay and run by the family itself. We loved the antique 4 poster bed , the dressing table and the door to our room, which is actually 2 sets of doors(one above and one below). Loved the portico that has been decorated with traditional Kerala art.
Uma and her husband arranged for a Shikara boat ride for only Rs 250 per hour by her cousin, who was a friendly boatman. Beware of agents who try to coax u into getting into their boat by the jetty, all of whom charge more than 350.
Location wise, Ashtamudi is 5 mins from the boat jetty from where you can get into any boat, Mullackal shopping area is also close by, as is the bus stand. Local handicraft shops are also nearby. The family is really hospitable and they helped us with instructions and suggestions for seeing around Alleppey and Cochin. On the day we left, they even got up at 5 in the morning to give us coffee and to see us off :-)
This was one of the best places we stayed on the tour.... be there to experience it!

My husband and I stayed here on 28th September 2012. We were only in Alappuzha for one night as we needed a base to get a houseboat trip.
The host was very helpful and friendly. The room was basic and had a tiny bathroom off it, but it was adequate for our needs. The place is reasonably priced so can't complain.
It was reasonably clean and comfortable and relatively close to 'finishing point' where houseboats can be hired.
Nice wee place, quite quirky, could do with a lick of paint.

During my travel in india, "Ashtamudi Homestay" was one of the best place that i stayed. The family who own the place have a great sence of hospitality. The uncle of the family was really nice, and take the time to show me Alappuzha and we do i little city tour together. They arrange a trip to the backwater the next day.

They are very concern about their guest, for example, I had a little stomach ache when i arrived, and uma prepare me a thea which was good for stomach. Moreover, their food was exquisite taste.

In Conclusion, I highly recommend this homestay wich was may be my best experience in homestay during all my indian's trip!

we are in a hurry and booked through mobile before night, they received us very warmly, as our own family members. they helped in every aspect, no frills. they in house food preparation was so nice. however we have to order 2 hrs before. they treated us as own brothers. very nice.

Room Tip: choose Bamboo rooms, they are very nice and good outdoor experience.
