“Great Location, Excellent Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2012

Myself with my wife, in-laws and my dog Banjo, stayed at Ananda Beach Home from Nov.16th to 18th. From the moment we arrived at the resort, Mr.Thomas, the manager and other staff welcomed us and showed us our rooms.
Ananda Beach Home located away from main Alappuzha town, but right on the beach. I could see no other resorts around except a small fisherman village nearby. Though sea is very rough, the beach is relatively clean. It is not a good idea to venture deep into the sea here. The rooms consist of a small but comfortable balcony overlooking the sea. Although the rooms are small, it feels cozy and comfortable. Important aspect of the room is the open air bathroom!. However, most of the bathroom fittings ware either leaking or badly stained. We preferred to have bath by felling buckets. Biggest let down in this resort is the badly washed, dirty and stained bath towels. We were forced to use our own bath towels.
I must admit there are very limited choice of food variety, but it is more than compensated by yummy homely Kerala food cooked by a lady Malayali cook. Full marks to excellent room service and house keeping.
On the final day of our stay, our train was scheduled to depart at 5 Pm, but we had booked our rooms for only 2 nights. We were supposed to vacate the rooms by 11 Am. We requested the resort owner to allow us to stay till 3 Pm, he readily agreed and allotted one room!.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, and wont mind recommending to others, I will take this opportunity to thank all the staff for their excellent service and the owner for considering our request and allowing us to stay more time.

Room Tip: Ask for the sea facing cottage

Stayed at Ananda Beach Home wid family on Nov-13th and found the staff especially Mr. Thomas going out of their way to make our stay memorable. Enjoyed the best food in allepey. The ambience and the rooms (not to forget the the open air bathrooms!!!!) were well worth the price paid for. Its on a secluded location by the beach and the only sound you will hear is the sound of waves clashing on the coast. Overall "A Real Great Beach Resort".

When we landed, it was a pleasant surprise to find the cottages abutting the beach and to hear the waves crashing in, amidst an idyllic setting. One had come expecting, like other 'beach resorts', that the resort would be located in the hustle-bustle of the city.
Set amidst coconut trees, the sober, yet neatly maintained villas welcome you with a traditional charm, far removed from the trappings of commercial getaways.
To say that the service was excellent would be an understatement. It was more an extension of the care that one gets at home.. a personal touch one can seldom find in hotel retreats, that are probably costlier and perhaps even more luxurious. One really loved the hospitality here!
The authentic and delicious Kerala food served in the open bamboo hut, while you listened to the waves and the birds chirping, reminded how closer to nature one was.
Transport was well arranged and was reasonably priced. The manager took good care of all of our needs, without much ado. We treated ourselves to the ayurvedic massages that are custom made for one's health and body condition.
All in all, it was very good value for money.. left a pleasant and memorable feeling when we checked out. Ideal for some one who is looking for that idyllic Kerala retreat located in the lap of nature, far from the maddening crowd.

We (2 parents + 2 teenagers) visited Ananda Beach HOme as part of our Kerala package tour in October 2012. It is a wonderful place, with a serene atmosphere. The beach is a minute away (backyard) which is clean and not crowded. The manager was very resourceful and made all arrangements as per our requirements (vegetarian food).

We stayed for about 24 hours and enjoyed it.

Room Tip: All rooms are fine as you would be spending time outside.

We stayed at Ananda resort for 4 full days and it's a fantastic place to stay. Room service was fantastic and food was great. Well planned city visit was arranged at a nominal rate. Very leisure stay at Ananda. Friendly staff available 24 * 7 for room service.

Room Tip: Rooms near beach gives feeling of beach

This resort is located next to beach. This overrides all minor disadvantages of the resort like slight old cottages, not very good food...etc....But the location is fantastic....we reached there post sunset and could not see how far is sea but could hear the sound of the waves hitting the shore as if it was just a stone throw away....There are cottages spread over the space with a small private portico also....the bathroom is open (no roof) gives you a feeling of taking bath in open in a beach...we didn't go anywhere....went to be near shore in morning and spend the rest of the day idling in the garden...kids were busy playing with sands...overall a good place to spend leisure moments.....

Room Tip: There is a cottage facing the sea directly...and take ac cottage only as the weather is generally ho...

What works well - great location of the property which is right on a small beach. There are cottages with amazing sea views. The tariffs are very reasonable for a resort which is right on the beach. Service is excellent with very friendly staff. The resort itself is well maintained. The rooms are very clean and the bathrooms are excellent with a sky view. Hot water was provided on request and there is a power generator backup in case of power failures. The manager of the resort, Mr. Thomas, was very helpful and he went out of his way to accomodate us and make us comfortable in all ways. My son fell ill during the stay and he helped us with the doctor visits and the medications. Our heartfelt thanks to him. The resort is 2 kms away from the Alleppey town and ideal in ensuring that people are away from the hustle and bustle and the sounds of the city. The food was authentic kerala cuisine was very well done. My wife went for some ayurvedic massages and it was very professional. Children will love this place since there are huge open green spaces for them to run around and parents can feel absolutely safe. The staff arranges for boat houses as well, which is a plus. We dont need to approach multiple people for this. Missus loved it and my son enjoyed a lot. This made my holiday worth it.

What did not work so well - A fisherman's village is right next to the beach. It is better to avoid the beach and its surrounding rocks early mornings since it is used for their nature calls. If you don't see this, you will be fine. The house boat was a slight disappointment since it was not very clean and the room was very smelly. Since the resort is slightly far from the town, one will end up shelling out money on auto's if visits to the town are required. I had a few visits to the doctor since my son was not keeping well. Otherwise, visits to the town might not be required.

Room Tip: All cottages are equally good. All provide great sea views.
