“One of the Glorious pilgrims!!”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

I visited here twice in my lifetime, first in 1998 and the second in 2010. The church was renovated but the grace still remains the same. They have this unique nercha (Vow) called "Ambu nercha (Vow of Bow)" believed to fulfill all your wishes, as it resembles how St. Sebastian was martyred.

“a great church to visit during festival time”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

St. Andrew's Basilica Arthunkal is a church worth visiting during perunnal (St. Sebastian's Feast festival) time and it is located in a beach so you will get best of the both worlds.

“Don't miss the old one behind”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

The newer church is in the front - built in stone but the insides are fairly "modern" if you will. The older church from the 1580s retains the charm of the history that it has seen is behind (and right now behind a construction facade so you will miss it unless you're looking). It's a quick drive from Mararikulam along the beach road.

“A good piece of architecture”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

We visited this place yesterday that is 22nd March 2014. We were visiting Kottayam and suddenly my daughter wanted to see a beach. So nearest beach from Kottayam is Arthunkal beach.

The drive is very picturesque from Kottayam, as usual when you are in Kerala. The church has an imposing structure and the area around has lot of open space and sand which makes it very good object for photography.

The beach is at a walking distance from the church and the place and area is very calm and quiet. Overall a very good experience.

TIP: It can get very hot in summers, so please avoid.
