Ok this 'resort' is a bit tired, but it's location on the backwaters is glorious. I wouldn't recommend it for more than 1 night, as there's not much to do except relax and soak up the scenery. Cottages are comfortable with a veranda overlooking the river and a good enough bathroom. Staff were friendly and the food was very enjoyable. We enjoyed the experience of being ferried across from one island to the other. There's no swimming pool, but it's perfectly possible to swim in the river and we had a lovely boat trip for bird spotting during the late afternoon. Don't go here expecting luxury - you'll be disappointed. But if you're looking for a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle, this is a good choice.

Was a bit sceptical when I found out that this was a govt. run resort, but this place turned out to be a fantastic surprise!

Resort is located astride the kayal (the backwater canals). The reception and the restaurant are on one side of the kayal and the rooms are on the other side. One has to cross over using boats (the resort takes care of this...as soon as you step out of your room, a boat is immediately made available to cross over).

Rooms are superbly clean and with very good ambiance. Bed linen is clean and fresh and spotless. Bathrooms are large, clean and equally spotless.

Food is excellent. Room service is also great. We had a small kid (1.5 years old) with us and the restaurant staff were more than helpful in organizing food for the child. They were prompt in attending to all our special requests for the child (like sterilizing bottles, preparing oatmeals, etc) even at odd times.

The rest of the resort staff is also extremely helpful. Some instances: We were not aware that the resort does not accept credit cards and were not carrying enough cash with us. The only way we could have paid them was by drawing cash from an ATM in Alappuzha city (which we could do only upon check out). The resort manager was very understanding and accommodating and we handed over the cash to a member of the staff after we checked out. Another instance: We had kept some of our clothes out in the sun for airing and had stepped out for sightseeing. It started raining during the day, but someone from the resort staff was kind enough to collect our clothes and put them in a covered area, thus saving them from getting wet.

There is only one problem with this resort. The only way to reach and get out of here is via boat from Alappuzha. Guests are ferried free of cost by the resort to and from Alappuzha. But this can be a bit of a nuisance when one needs to go sightseeing as some amount of time is wasted waiting for the boat.

If the purpose of your visit is to get away from the madding crowd and spend some quiet time with yourself, your family or your friends, I would very strongly recommend this resort.

Place is very far from the main road, not a proper road.. The ride inside was very bumpy.. The resort was nice and serene, but too slow for our liking... I would recomend this place for a honeymoon for sure, as noone to disturb you, but for a family outing, I would not recommend it.. Even the guys at the restaurant had no clue about the dishes on the menu card..

Room Tip: Try and avoid..

Stayed in this hotel for 1 day, and thankfully it was not more than that.

The ambience and the look at the resort looks good at first sight but very soon the guest is jolted to reality by the totally un co-operative service staff and the lack of basic amenities.

The resort is on an island which means that you need a ferry to take u from the outside world to the resort. Most of the times the person operating the ferry is not around and everytime we wanted to go out (or even to the resort restaurant to have food) we had to wait for atleast 15 minutes for the boatman to arrive.

The location of the resort is such that there is absolutely nothing apart from a few village homes and villagers around the resort. The resort does not have a gym, no indoor games, no internet connectivity.. in short the resort resembles a jail where there is absolutely nothing to do inside as well as outside the resort.

The food is also pathetic, and the guest still ends up with no choice but to have the same as there are no hotels anywhere near the resort.

My husband and I stayed for one night in one of the bungalows in this hotel for one night in February 2011 at the end of a group tour of the region. The resort is set in a picture-perfect location in the Keralan backwaters surrounded by coconut palms, each bungalow looking out directy onto the water. The bungalows are actually set on a tiny island separated from the reception and restaurant by a channel of water and there is a small punt-boat manned by one of the hotel staff to take you across - this has a certain novelty charm and adds to the laid-back atmosphere, although not always convenient if you leave something in your room and have to nip back over the water to get it!

The location is great for getting away from it all as it is quite a way from the nearest town - a perfect place for us to relax for a day/night after a trekking holiday but some people may get restless after a few days. We spent our time relaxing on our large shady verandah watching the abundant birdlife and reading, but it's also worth having a stroll into the village itself to see local village life (in particular, the production by hand of the coir rope made from coconut fibre, a fascinating process), and there's a small town 15-20 minutes' walk away. Apparently it is possible to swim/canoe in the water at the hotel but being nervous of creepy-crawlies we'd seen in the region we didn't fancy this much (this is no reflection on the cleanliness of the hotel though)!

Rooms were clean and spacious, air-con was a little temperamental and the shower drainage in the bathroom was poor and led to a little flooding, but pretty good on the whole - and there was hot water, which is not always the case in India. The only downside really is the service in the restaurant, which is incredibly slow (even by India standards) - staff are very inexperienced and food takes a long time to arrive if ordering a la carte (even after we'd taken the precaution of ringing our order through to reception 2 hours in advance, as advised by our tour leader). However, when it did come, the food was very tasty. Given the resort layout (accommodation on a different island to the restaurant), don't expect room service.

Stayed here as part of a tour. It is off the beaten track and frankly a bit basic, but with a certain charm (you need to get a boat to reception and the restaurant). It is geared to Indian honeymoon couples and tour groups.

We enjoyed our buffet meal in the evening which was very good indeed.

Overall it was fine, and we were definitely close to nature, but we would not want to have stayed more than one night.
