Kaits located just outside of Alleppey is a lovely homestay with cottages overlooking the river. It’s a great place to relax and watch the world go by (plus a couple of dozen houseboats!)

Jossy is a fantastic host who alongside his wife makes you very welcome at his home.
We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Kaits. Every meal was delicious and presented beautifully. We loved having authentic Keralan food every day. Food was served in a little gazebo overlooking the river and was an amazing setting to eat in.

Jossy also has a rowing boat and Kayak which you can take out whenever you like, free of charge. We took the rowing boat out which was lots of fun.

In terms of things to see and do we visited the local market, snake race boat and St Mary’s Church all around a 20 minute walk away from Kaits. Jossy can also arrange several trips including a houseboat trip day or overnight. Plus a speed boat ride around the backwaters.

A fantastic place to stay with lovely hosts – highly recommended.

We stayed at Kait's Home for 1 night in September.
We chose this place based on the location and the comments of others on Trip Advisor.
It was certainly one of the highlights of our trip to Kerala and we wished we could have stayed longer.

The location of Kaits Home is really beautiful, right beside the Pamba river. The meals are served right by the lakeside in a covered area with comfortable seating. In the morning while having breakfast you can watch the boats gliding down the river. We had dinner on the night we arrived, a lovely Keralan style buffet with choices for both Vegetarian & Non Vegetarians. Breakfast was not too plentiful but adequate.

The accommodation was very basic but comfortable & clean. I would recommend using the mosquito net provided in the room, as I did see mosquitos in my room.

Jossy was very friendly and helpful. He organised boating activities which we all enjoyed.
We were there at the end of monsoon season and we got caught in heavy rain while out boating on the river. We had to pull over to the side of the river and get shelter from a local families home.
So if you are there in monsoon season I strongly recomment taking a raincoat or umbrella for those surprise monsoon showers.

The morning we left, we went for a 3 hour boat ride from 6:30 to 9:30am, on a motor boat.
This was the highlight of my stay, cruising down the river watching the sun rise, you could see fishermen taking their boats out. I even saw the school boat taking the kids to school. The boat cruise took you down smaller canals where you could see ladies washing their clothes and washing their dishes by the river. I even saw the milkman on his morning bicyle run. It was an awesome opportunity for photograhy as the morning shadows mirrored the images I took.

Overrall I highly recommend a stay here. We chose staying here rather than staying on a house boat as it gave us the opportunity to meet a lovely Keralan family and there are lots of interesting activities to take part in.

Jossy and family have been amazing. Out of the world experience for us and the perfect place for our much needed break. The setting of the jetty is stunning, and with hammocks and hanging seats, you can relax and enjoy the scenery and passing houseboats.

If you get the chance, stay here.

It was one of the highlights of our trip, we even changed our plans so we could stay at Kaits for an extra night.

Jossy was so welcoming and friendly, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the food was incredible! The setting of the jetty is stunning, and with hammocks and hanging seats, you can relax and enjoy the scenery and passing houseboats.

Would absolutely recommend.

A long overdue review of a wonderful place that we could not have enough of!

Travelling with my parents-in-law, we had the two adjoining cottages by the river. Albeit simple & functional, they were clean & comfortable. Jossy & his family were very hospitable, the food outstanding. We had an elaborate & extremely delicious dinner on the river-side pavilion under the stars with the backdrop of lovely scents from the garden. Earlier in the evening, we witnessed thousands of ducklings coming home from their river-stroll & at night we had a mummy turtle walking onto our veranda in search of the perfect nesting place ~ both encounters firmly etching their place in my 7 yr-old daughter’s memory ! Jossy was very kind to organize a special collection of coconut-flower toddy for us for breakfast, with just a casual expression of our interest. So in-love with the place, we wanted to extend our stay– which unfortunately didn’t happen due to logistical reasons.

We hope to return there one day, to lose ourselves once again in the sheer simplicity of nature & to be pampered by Jossy & his family. I truly wish they start cookery courses too; I’d sign up instantly to learn to cook the yummy family secrets!

A wonderful place to watch the world go by for a couple of days. We really enjoyed our stay at Kaits Home. Highly recommend arranging the motor boat through Jossy for a early morning bimble along the canals. This was a real highlight of our two week trip around Kerala. Give the rice boat a miss and opt for this as well as a local water ferry ride. Lovely hexagonal balcony in which breakfast and dinner are served and it has one of the best views of the waterways. Food was average.
