“Idyllic location”
Reviewed 6 February 2014

Spent just 1 night at this homestay which has stunning scenery being located adjacent to the river and naturally there was a good variety of birdlife.Usual herons and kingfishers and a white bellied eagle. We enjoyed using the kayak and drifting up and down the river and exploring one of the narrow inlets which although overgrown with green weed was just about navigatable.Walked down to the nearby village where there are a few shops and a craft workshop which is worth a visit. We also watched an Indian wedding at a splendid village church and the vibrant colours of all the saris made the occasion so special to us.
The hosts were very helpful ,the accommodation simple and the keralan food excellent. The room was very well illuminated and clean and the shower effective.
Our room also had air conditioning.

Great rooms, a fantastic location right on the water, delicious food, and run by a lovely family, this is exactly what we wanted from a homestay. If we ever make it back to Kerala we'll be heading straight back here too.

The only negative: like a previous review we also found the recommended taxi driver to be rude and made us feel unsafe with his driving (so we assume it's the same guy). The recommended tuktuk driver however is lovely!

It may be a little off the beaten track but it was a total surprise to find such an idyllic retreat in these backwaters. We loved it so much we extended our stay and took advantage of the free kayaks and canoes to explore a bit on our own. Jossy and his family were extremely hospitable and the food was an unexpected highlight every evening. My husband and I had the bungalow at the end with the clever and spacious outdoor bathroom attached at the back. It made sense and although I was a bit apprehensive that I may be sharing the bathroom with a variety of insects or creatures, it was totally fine, functional and private. The grounds were really well thought out with swing seats, hammocks and a gazebo that served as the dining area. Jossy took time to explain what the trees and plants were and we were amazed to discover that our bungalow was surrounded by a coffee tree, cocoa tree and coconut palms. It was also home to loads of noisy and interesting birds. You really feel incredibly integrated into the natural landscape of the backwaters and we were both really glad we took Jossy's recommendation to get up at the crack of dawn to go on a little motor boat excursion. We shared the experience with an Indian family who were also Jossy's guests which meant we shared the price of the trip and had double the fun pointing things out to each other from the roof of the boat. If you choose this homestay you will be so pleased you did so prepare to relax and if you like good authentic Keralan cooking you will think you've died and gone to heaven. I hope to return to this little piece of paradise.

We ( family of four with kids aged 5 and 6 ) stayed here in early January 2014. Jossy and his family are incredible hosts and make you feel more than welcome. The positives of this place is the riverfront location with hammocks and service. They also have free kyaks for exploring waterways and village life. The only negative was the driver that they recommended. This driver was rude, aggressive, dishonest and dangerous. He was driving like a mad man and took unnecessary risks on dangerous bends in terms of over taking and speed. Comparing him to the next driver on our trip who was extremely safe and reliable only highlighted what a bad driver he was.

With our two teenage daughters we stayed here for 3 nights and found our hosts a wonderful introduction to Kerala. Our rooms were fairly basic but clean and very adequate and we loved our open-air bathroom! The cottages look out over banana and coconut trees and the wide river, as does the lovely gazebo where our meals were eaten with the other guests - very sociable! If we weren't relaxing in the hammocks or swing seats we went on the kayaks,or walked to the local village or took boat trips through the little waterways watching local life unfold. Jossy and his family were so friendly and helpful, and the meals were pretty good too!

Really nice location adjacent to the backwaters. The host and his family were very accommodating - nice rooms, great food, interesting conversations, many activity options and an overall beautiful place. We stayed as a family of 4 with one small child and can easily recommend this for at least a couple of nights. We went for at stroll at the nearby village down by the kanals which has a number of shops and a big church; the houseboats typically dock here on their way through the backwaters for a quick stopn'shop which gives the village a lot of leben.

Kait's was the first accommodation we have booked while in Kerala. We stayed there for 2 nights and we were the only guests at the time. The location was perfect and if i knew better i would have stayed longer in places around the backwaters instead of spending a night in a backwater cruise which i found very touristic and not worth the hassle and money. Jossy is the sweetest man, very helpful and his whole family is lovely. The room it self was ok. We had the one on the left hand side as you face the backwaters which was by itself. the room was clean but basic and quite small. however the patio at the front was lovely to watch the world go by. The area where dinner and breakfast is served is on the water. although it is quite lovely location it is ver hot and humid and sometimes felt uncomfortable eating really hot food. I did not particularly enjoy breakfast or dinner there and i also god quite sick the second night. However perhaps it was not the dinner at Jossy's as my friend who had the same thing was fine. the first day there we took one of the canoe's which was the best part of our trip in Kerala. Much better than the houseboat. Jossy even offered to give us his motorbike and all for free (the canoe as well). The village close by is lovely and worth a visit. While seating on the patio one afternoon two women from the nearby home invites us to their house and treated us with tea and fruit and showed us around. It was really lovely. I would recommend to anyone to stay in a home stay at the backwaters and this one is perfect and quite far from all the tourists if you want a real experience. it is only 15 minutes or so by rickshaw to allaphuzha although some rickshaw drivers found it quite difficult to find. So make sure you have a good map.
