On a recent visit to Kerala, my husband booked a room at Maria Heritage Home, though I was apprehensive about a home stay. One look at the house & I was totally enamored. The house is full on antiques & yet it has the warmth of a home. The Manager Mrs Reema was of immense help. The food is excellent, the staff friendly & the hotel absolutely gorgeous. Will absolutely recommend to those who crave some tranquility in their fast track lives!

Room Tip: The coffee they serve is fantastic, so is the fish!

I think we Indians expect a bit more of service than the money we spend on holidays. So picking a home-stay for an Indian is a bit risky.

Being a homestay, the service is kind of non existent, it is more for a relaxed kind of a holiday, where you just want to be with yourself, may be by reading books ar just being with nature.

The rooms are pure traditional, in fact ours was even smaller than the bathroom itself. The place is kind of treasured and gives a very historical feeling. The greenery is awesome and you can find a lot of fruit bearing trees around there.

The location is a bit far away from the city, but just on the backwaters. You can go for a boat ride in the evenings, but the houseboat pick up point is far in the city.

The staff was very courteous and the madam in charge helped us a lot in getting our itinerary prepared.

The stay will be nice if you do not have high expectations

I had a great stay at Maria Heritage along with with my wife for our honeymoon trip and the staff was very accommodating. The rooms were very spacious and beautiful balcony. The best part about the stay is the food with tons of options and great food.

OMG...this place is fully adorned with antiques, woooden carvings and lovely handicraft.
The moment u enter , u are instantly welcomed by beautiful interiors.
We booked a heritage room but Mrs Rema Mohan upgraded it to deluxe room.
The room has an attached a laundry room and a beautiful verandah/balcony.
They have a beautifully maintained garden too.

Manager Mrs Rema was kind enough to arrange for our vehicle and booked a house boat for us as well.
Her friendly attitude makes u feel at home.
Th cook serves delicious home cooked food.

Cons.
The only disadvantage is its location..

It is 18 (approx.) kms away from boat jetty and auto wala charged 300 ( or Rs 400), which seemed bit exorbitant.
Taxi wala demanded Rs 600.
people who are interested to stay neat boat jetty ( house boat)have many options.
Plus if u stay near jetty , u can choose house boat on your own and will have many options.

but if u intend to stay in alapuzza for longer time and intend to explore the city....

u will love this beautifully maintained property...

Room Tip: All those looking for houseboats: If possible please book a house boat after u have seen a few on y...

This was a perfect place to end our week long Kerela trip. We were made to feel at home then moment we entered through the gates, special thanks to the manager Rema.
Best parts of the stay:
1) Nice clean rooms with open shower. Extremely calm and relaxing.
2) Great landscaping of the entire complex with coconut trees, mango trees and exotic plants.
3) Hammock in the garden, perfect for that afternoon nap.
4) Great home-cooked food as per request. We were 2 non-veg and 3 veg and they cooked food for everyone's liking.
5) The main house is extremely nice and warm with a pleasant touch (gramophone, wooden swings, wooden recliners, old songs playing in the background). You can spend hours here.
6) Spa facilities for a relaxing Kerela massage.
7) Cab facilities for local sight-seeing and station pick-up and drop-off.

Things that can be improved:
1) We were three friends sharing a heritage room. The extra-matress and the cot were not comfortable and can be changed.

Room Tip: If you are 6 ft or taller, I would recommend you to go for the deluxe rooms that have lengthier beds...

We had booked 2 rooms. We had to cancel our trip one day in advance and as per cleartrip cancellation policy you will not get any refund unless cancelled 5 days in advance but Rema Mohan the manager came forward to help us and told we can come and stay anytime with this booking and won't be charged extra if available.
I am really not sure if i can really go and stay but this gesture goes to show the hospitality which we missed by not making it to maria
WE Thank Ms Rema Mohan for her wonderful and support
