“Amazing canon!”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

If you like castles, make this your must see place after Gol Gumbaz and Imbrahim Rouza. Climb through muscular battements jutting out from a mostly intact city wall to find an enormous and ornately carved cannon. Loved it.

“Malik E Maidan (Master of Battlefield)”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

This was erected by Ibrahim Adil Shah II. It was named after the Battle of Talikota of 1565 in which the Vijayangar Empire was routed. The Malik-i-Maidan is stated to be the largest piece of cast bronze ordnance in the world. With a diameter of 1.5 meters, and weighing 55 tons, this is a giant! Interestingly magistrate of Bijapur tried to auction this off in 1854 for Rs 150, but the auction was called off. This cannon was built by a Turkish officer in the Ahmednagar kingdom. Apparently, there is an inscription which says it was captured by Aurangzeb. Later when General Murari Pandit defeated Ahmednagar, he carried this back as a war trophy. Well, it took 400 oxen, 10 elephants and hundreds of soldiers to bring it back.

“Visit for the cannon and excellent city views”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

Huge cannon amidst well maintained lawns, the cannon has intricate designs and is well preserved, while you are there don't miss the views from the top........like most places in Bijapur, this site could do with a stone tablet from ASI explaining about it's histrory or heritage instead of numerous boards explaining people in various languages that the site is a protected monument as per section XXX of some Indian Law....

“Worth the visit”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

A huge cannon is placed at the gardens of Malik-i-Maidan.
The garden area is beautifully designed.
The cannon was used during the Adilshahi rule.
There is beautiful carving on it. One can see the Bijapur city from the top of the structure
