i have decided to go to Lonavala for a day and usually i have serached over internet and found Captans resort. Place is located in middle of mountains and covered completly with different trees. So peacefull and Silent. if your looking for peacefull and relaxed weeknd this is the right place. You can spend some quality time with family. Rooms are made of wood and you will not find any TV etc.. Food was good. they have picked us from station and everything was part of one day package.

I have visited Lonavala (Khandala) couple of times since I live in Mumbai, but this time the trip was different. The main thing that differentiated was the choice of the resort. The location of Captan's resort is simply awesome, just behind the resort is the trek route to Rajmachi village (its still unspoilt) and not littered by plastic as it is at other Lonavala viewing points. The hotel Upperdeck is located there too but charges exorbitant rates hence Captan's was my choice. All major attractions were close by but the trek to Valvan Dam, Tungarli Lake and the trek to Rajmachi village was out of the world. We were amidst pure mother nature. A must visit for photo enthusiasts . It was great trip.

We stayed at Captan's resort over a weekend. The meals served were home cooked meals and were really nice. Although they were short on staff, the staff was very helpful. We stayed in the Super Deluxe room. The bath tub could not be used as there was no running hot water. They tried filling the bath tub by getting a few buckets, but the tub was too big to be filled like that. The room was very nice and spacious. It was clean and hygienic. I would love to go back there.

Arrival to Evening:
14th June 2013: A great drive through the rains on the expressway from Pune to Lonavala. Pay a toll of Rs 99 and take the Lonavala exit.
Thereafter followed Google Maps and it was 99% accurate.
For visitors on their first trip to this resort, the road could be quite intimidating when under full fury of monsoons.
The road is a aingle lane broken down track with lots of potholes and is a kuccha path rather than a tar road.
Google maps misleads you when approaching the Dam wall of Tungarki Lake; however donot fear, just follow the road and in a matter of 5 minutes google maps is back on track.
We arrived at 1500 hrs and the Manager Mr. Roy was very courteous and had kept the lunch waiting for us.
Being a Captain in the merchant navy I could immediately relate to the vivid imagination of the place as the owner of the resort is also a Master Mariner.
We had checked in the Luxury Suite and my was it spacious. Amazing view all around and a complete wood finish from floor to bed upto the ceiling was just classy. The washroom was equally great with a big dip tub and a walkin wardrobe.
No usual hassles of checking in with payments etc. It was juat like home. Food is like home with veg and non veg options available. It was amazingly good and hot. The dining area is like a cozy cubby hole.
Once lunch was over we made the payments to the manger for the complete duration.
Other guests were present and were enjoying outdoor activities and came in with the same dirty footwear and smudged the whole wardroom area.. really sad part. It was pleasant to note though that the caretakers immediately cleaned the mess up. I guess the management could disallow use of dirty footwear and wet clothes by creating a changing room of sorts.
The second irritation was smoking. Someone was smoking within the wardroom area and it was smelling all over the place. Once again as in other hotels etc smoking must be prohibited within the villa.
Apart from that the ambience and warmth of the place immediate puts u at peace.. Remember folks no TV in the rooms.

We had spotted this place last year while going for a trek to Rajmachi. It looked pretty interesting and we were hoping it was within our budget... and it was!! It may sound a tad expensive at 3800/- a night including all meals and teas/coffees but believe me its worth every penny.

The place is located off the Mumbai Pune expressway and is a bit difficult to reach though at least now they have an unpaved pebble road whereas last year there was nothing. The approach is unconventional but by no means inaccessible. The keeper Mr. Roy was waiting for us on the road itself to ensure we reach without trouble. The place inside is one big farmhouse surrounded by many cottages/rowhouses. The main building is very tastefully done exuding lot of rustic charm. The ground boasts of a swimming pool, rocky trails, nice big yard with sheds, wooden and stone benches. All in all a complete nature lover's paradise. You can spot many songbirds flying all over the place.

We had a deluxe cottage which was separate from the main building and had wooden bed, chairs and a closet. Room also mimics the natural theme seen in the main building. Nice clean bathroom. Towels and soap was provided. Bedsheets were clean and freshly laundered. Room had a porch which was decent. They did seem to have electricity issues with it being cut off at any time during the day or night. There is generator backup but its not very powerful. Rooms do not have TV or telephone which is probably in keeping with their back to nature USP but it can be cumbersome if you are not really looking to get away completely. The main building has a sitting room with TV but its so high that its barely visible. They were very strict about meal timings and switching off the TV at night at 1030 max which I did not appreciate.

The real sweetner was of course the meals which included non-veg and sweet for lunch and dinner. It was nice homely food with lots of choices. Breakfast was aloo parantha and bread omelette which was delicious.

The best part is that they let us checkin early at 9 AM (official time is 10) and check out time is 12 noon which was really convenient if you are travelling from Pune or Mumbai.

My only grouse is (and cant really blame the property for that) the loud music that starts off from the resort right opposite (Upper Deck). They start blaring at 8PM sharp and do not stop till 10PM. And its really loud. Rudely shatters the back to nature myth created around you.

On the whole it was a lovely experience and I would recommend!

Room Tip: Go for Bali cottage if you can afford it. The rooms at the very back should be more quiet.

We visited Captan's resort for an evening out, with a wonderful experience of secluded residence with wonderful time. Food was good with lovely dinner and breakfast! The place is very far away from city hussel bussel and a perfect get away.
I will want to go back there again!

Room Tip: #Suit is the best out of all.

We had gone to Captans in September 2012 coz some of our friends had gone earlier and had recommended it. Food was okay and the rooms could do with better maintainence. I am not the picky 5 star type but I yet felt that they should tackle the fungus and mildew better. Approach road is bad but atleast bcoz of that it keeps of the people who just want to party in Lonavala and make a lot of noise. The location is excellent and the bit of how they have built the cottages around the natural vegetation is something really nice. Come to this place with no great expectations and you will really have a nice quiet stay in Lonavala.
