“Tropical rainforest - well almost”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

Bungalows are set above the road, up steep steps and there is road noise. The masses of beautiful, huge tropical plants obscure any sea view. On-site dive shop, helpful guys, decent equipment. Owners were away when we stayed but Nyoman who manages in their absence did a splendid job. AC, mossie nets, hot water, easy walking distance of several excellent restaurants (go with their recommendations), motorbike rental available from reception - great for exploring on your own. Beach across the road, black pebbles; sea wasn't particularly clean (floating rubbish after rains); much clearer further away. Usual fresh fruit, banana pancakes for breakfast; eggs cooked in different ways are an option; unlimited tea, water, coffee during the day (an added bonus!) Staff are charming and very helpful.

Room Tip: The highest up/back of garden, furthest away from the road may possibly lessen traffic noise.

I have to say, I absolutely LOVE these guys!I visited Amed in November 2013 for a few days, did some fun diving with David and Liselottes cool Divemaster Crew (Gede, Jim, Ketut) but didn't stay at their accomendation back then. I decided to go back to Amed in January 2014 for a few more days, because I enjoyed myself so much there the first time. This time I did my diving with them AND stayed in their wonderful bongalows.
The rooms there are very clean, they get new towels and sheets everday and are cleaned from bottom to top everyday, to make sure there are close to NO BUGS - ever!! (Which I from experience is quite rare in Bali...)
Nyoman is now my mum in Amed. I travelled on my own, and she played a big part in making me feel a bit like home - amazing! She knew just what I wanted for breakfast (which is included btw.) always had a glass of icetea ready for me and was more than happy to hear about my exciting day, when I had no one else to tell.
Thanks to all of you, I will make sure to pay yet another visit the next time I get to Bali.

Lots of love and many hugs from Denmark, Penny xxx

We spent some time at Geria Giri Bungalows recently, being guided by the very positive reviews provided here. I had read how good Lise and David were in all that they did, and I have to say that I was a little sceptical that they could be as fantastic as most of the reviews said they were. Well, I was wrong. They are fantastic. Lise works very hard, although everything works smoothly and her hard work is largely conducted out of sight. As I experienced her, she is very social and very interested in people and I think that is a large part of the secret of their success. As many people have written in their reviews, she provides a very warm welcome and a homely environment. And while Lise is doing that, David is handing the diving side of the business. He is a very good dive instructor: very calm, systematic and a very good communicator. Overall, they are a dynamic duo and the Geria Giri Shanti Bungalows are a great place to stay in Amed.

We 3 couples arrived in an downpour and the Geria Geri magic started immediately, Lise and her wonderful team welcomed us with umbrellas and smiles and quickly had us seated on our porches drying off . It is hard to make the right choices in Bali over a short stay, but we were accurately guided to great beaches, googling , dives , beaches , island excursions , pools, and restaurants. As soon as we decided what to do transport was arranged, tables booked and itineraries settled with prices clearly defined . We quickly began to feel confident and at home in Amed, very pleased to have had found a perfectly simple but very stylish and well connected place to stay. Loved the gorgeous new outdoor shower room in our chalet currently being added to the others.

Room Tip: Access to the router was best in room 3.

Ok....to start this review I need to back track to rainy Melbourne August when I planned this feb 2014 break. After bouncing an email, I made a deposit via paypal. Easy. They then emailed me, asking if I needed a driver, which I did, and in my eager holiday panning was able, through the owners, to map the drive through Sideman rice terraces, and Tirtagangga water temple. They provided this help even though they didn't need to, just because they wanted us to 'have a good trip'. Ok...fast forward to feb 2014, where the driver meets us, and to our surprise, the owners ring the driver mid trip from kuta to amed to see if we on our way and everything is ok. After a great 2 1/2 trip from kuta, we are met by Lisa the owner AT GATE, and warmly welcomed with a cool refreshing drink. Bags to the rooms while we are shown around, and then given a detailed overview of the hotel, the local area, where to eat and what to do. The rooms are fantastic, we had the rooms overlooking the dining area. The garden/jungle filled with birds, frogs, two lazy cats and a Belgium rabbit. Unlike other hotels where there is a mark up for drinks etc, these were the same prices as the shop down the road. Breakfast was more than enough, eggs, ham, omelette indo coffee or cappuccino ice tea, juice. Banana pancakes. No limits. Just eat, and order till you are full. I'm not sure how many rooms there are, I think maybe 5 or 6 but, as they are well placed apart, You don't feel like you are all lumped in together. There is a common area in the garden area where conversations flowed easy. Their staff are fantastic, never once did we feel like we needed to lock everything away, we even slept with our door open knowing there was 24 hour security at the front gate. Always met with a smile, and unlike other places ...never once hassled about booking tours etc. on saying this, we hired scooters through the hotel, and the owner Lisa, after watching our traveling buddy not being able to scooter with confidence! advise us/tell us not to and so other arrangements were made. It was not about the money. It was making sure we were safe, and our break fantastic. Before arriving there at the hotel, and reading the reviews for this place that threw in words in like 'family' , " staying at friends"....I thought it was corny....but after staying there I understand. Lisa and David have been, are, world travellers, and have taken their experiences to build a great place for us. If you want to be warmly and authentically welcomed, a relaxing stay that supports the local businesses and people, stay here. Peter, mat and Ian

Room Tip: Book early, via email, so you know you have a room. There is a reason why they are booked out, even...

5 bungalows carefully nestled in a very beautiful and well maintained garden with an ABSOLUTE PERSONALIZED SERVICE FROM LIZ AND DAVID. Welcomed with a very positive and homey atmosphere from Liz and she just literally gave the feeling of a family the moment we rocked up the place. Recommendations just keeps on coming...

Food-breakfast was superbly good. A toast with two fried eggs and ham, a cappuccino and tropical fruits made it really worth having breakfast even at 7 am considering almost of us arent into bfast.

Bungalows are forced to be reckoned with. Clean and well designed. The mosquito nets are just neat and a thing to be commended. No need for aircon-healthy living.

Wifi in the garden made its magic cause it invited people to be there and forgets about technology and just started chatting.... Which i find it very very cool and smart.

We also did a fun dive with this resort and oh my, Fantastic job! Really amazing instructor-David.

Sad to leave the place as we felt HOME for 5 days and I must say, they did spoil us....

Will definitely come back! Thank you so much Liz and David!

I stayed at Geria Giri Shanti bungalows in the beginning of December because I was diving there. Beforehand I didn´t expect too much from the accommodation but it really surprised me positively. It was simple though very clean, nice and cosy. The beds were made and towels changed every day which gave me the feeling of staying at a hotel. I especially liked the small balcony in front of my room where I often enjoyed my morning coffee in the middle of the beautiful green jungle-like garden. It´s a small diving school with not so many bungalows and that means you really get to know the people staying there and therefore it felt like a small family :) The diving was absolutely a superb experience!
And finally I want to praise the delicious banana pancakes and cappucino that motivated me every morning to wake up at 7 (for diving) :) I will for sure go back there next year.
