This great value complex was just fabulous for our family. Elevated with sea views, quiet and attractive with the pool looking out over the view. One minute down the track and onto the sandy beach. Excellent snorkeling straight off the beach. Bayu offers a wonderful breakfast in the restaurant looking out over the sea and with out doubt has the best Gado Gado! We enjoyed eating out and about and with hired scooters we were able to explore the area. Ahmed is a much slower, relaxed pace and away from the frenetic pace of Kuta or Legion. We are very keen to go back and do it all over again next year. We will definately be booking back with Bayu Cottages.

Room Tip: All rooms offer a view.

Our room was at the very top of the hotel and we arrived early in the evening in time to watch the sun set, with Mount Agung to one side of us and the sea stretching out in front. It was wonderful to fall asleep listening to the sound of the waves. We stayed for 2 days and ate in the hotel both nights- we found the traditional dishes to be fresh and delicious. Despite breakfast typically being served from 7am, the staff were happy to make something for us at 615 as we had an early start the day we left. The pool is lovely- small but perfectly formed with great views out to sea. The rooms are basic yet clean, but it's the setting and those views that really makes this place special. The first morning I watched the local children walking to school from our balcony- it's not a very developed place but that's part of it's charm. We loved it.

It would not be fair to comment on the amenities or service in this hotel as our scheduled eight day stay coincided with a severe weather event that compromised the infrastructure and operation of normal routines and we had to leave after four days. However the rapid, decisive and generous response of the owners exceeded our expectations and the above rating is based purely on this factor. In good weather, the views from the upstairs rooms would be amazing and the staff still managed to provide delicious breakfast over the four days without access to electricity. Thanks to all for their efforts.

Room Tip: Lovely views from the upstairs rooms, but very steep steps to get there

We will be back. We booked for two and stayed for three. Having stayed at Blue Moon Villas, which we highly recommend too, on a previous holiday Bayu did not disappoint. By comparison it is a well priced hotel with spectacular views from the balconies, swimming pool and dining area. We were greeted in the morning by the noises of the local people, the sights of the fishing boats and the splendour of the ocean. Breakfast included was simple but pleasant. The staff were very friendly, willing to accommodate and very flexible. We ate dinner at the hotel twice, the food was fresh, simple but adequate, offering a small range of traditional and non traditional dishes. The beds were comfortable, bathroom clean and well planned, air con worked well and TV offered many channels (although we didn't watch it). The only minor criticism from us would be, is that our room was located near the kitchen, and at times we felt the staff could be more mindful of their chatter and movements considering there were guests present. This should not deter you by any means but a friendly reminder to a great staff. We loved it!

We stayed for 4 nights in early December and enjoyed every moment. Our room #4 was at the top floor with a nice balcony and a panoramic view of the sea, Mt Agung and the village. In the evening, we enjoyed the beautiful colors of the sky. It was also nice sitting there early in the morning looking at the village waking up, amazing color of Mt Agung and the calm sea.

Our room was spacy, very clean and functional with a comfortable bed, nice shower with plenty of hot water, in-room safe, good air-conditioning with fan, writing desk, lots of storage space and big windows with great view. Internet is available at the balcony free of charge. Laundry is cheap at RP3,000 per piece and balcony is also a good place to dry clothes with bamboo clotheshorse equipped.

Although the hotel is the other side of the village main street from the beach, it only takes a minute or two to the beach. We could just go down with swimwear and bare feet. Snorkelling from the beach was beautiful with lots of small fish and healthy coral.

Hotel has a tiny pool with a view. We are not pool people but we enjoyed dipping in after coming back from snorkelling and appreciated the warmth and the view.

Young employees are all hard working and making sure guests have a comfortable time.

I don't think the hotel restaurant has been fairly judged by Trip Advisor in the past. I thought food we ate there was yummy, well presented and look very pretty. Girls were doing good job here too. Nasi Goreng and Club Sandwich were the best at Bayu while we were in Bali. We also ate at Wayan's Warung just down the road and Cafe Indah, beach front retaurant. They were both also nice.

We were very lucky to stay at Bayu Cottages and also lucky to know East Bali and this peaceful and quiet fishing village of Lipah, Amed.

Amed is a little fishing village that's learning how to accommodate tourists. It doesn't have the experience or the structures as the more popular and more frequently visited places such as Legian and Kuta. It has grown in hotels and services over the past 5 years and I'm sure it will grow even more. I didn't see any flashy places that the south west of Bali may have but The Bayu Hotel doesn't charge as much either. We found the rooms to clean with good air con. They don't come with a fridge or even tea or coffee but we found the prices in the hotel was similar to the markets anyway. The view from out balcony was good for 32 euro par night, you could see the fishing boats coming and going and yes the odd roof top here and there. The food was yummy and priced ok. My wife uses the Nasi Goreng rule of thumb for how expensive a place is. Between 30,000 and 45000 is cheap, 45000 to 60000 not cheap and around 80000 or more rp expensive. The Bayu was in the cheaper section.
The snorkeling was really good, plenty of coral and fish to gaze at and only meters from the shore. We hired our gear off the beach. Always looked clean and in good order for around $3 per day.
I would recommend hiring a scooter while staying in Amed and make use of the uncrowded roads to explore the wrecks.
Amed itself doesn't look as green as some other areas as it sits right behind some mountain causing less rain. It's strange to see one side green and the other brown.
