With APEC, rush hour, a couple road closures, plus quick dinner along the way, took a solid 4hrs to get there, so we weren't very keen on moving after that. My husband and I were there for -finally- some quiet time after the wedding craziness and we really got it.

We had 5 nights there with 1 trip out to the highlands with the freelance driver who got us from the airport. It was enough excitement for us, but could have done with a bit of variety at dinner or lunch time. There doesn't seem anywhere close enough without getting a driver for at least a half day.

We got a Bayview room. There's about 12 of them in a line facing the bay. It's a great location, but very windy at this time of year. Beautiful at sunset. Must admit the darkness and quiet is a little disconcerting at night, especially with the huge open bathroom. Very comfortable, but do need to bring own laptop as there's no TV. Reading is not much good- clip-on reading lights are provided, but it's in general very low lighting in the room.

Spa is great value and very professional. This spa-junkie was very satisfied, and the bath in the local hotspring water was great.

Room Tip: Bayview rooms from 8-12 have the better view

Spent only 2 days at the hotel. Beautiful villa, but slightly loudy but the very end of the park. Great accomodation, very romantic. My wife has appreciated a lot the spa.We enjoyed snorkeling and the trekking at the Nationnal Park. Dinner at the restaurant were so romantic. Love this place.

Room Tip: Avoid the villa at the very end of the park if you wish no external sound, but remains supportable.

We spent two nights in the resort during a round trip of Bali. We were upgraded to a Mangrove suite and it was the most beautiful room that we ever had, anywhere. Superb design, especially the outdoor bathroom had a 'wow' factor. The resort is quiet, very well integrated with nature. The infinity pool looking over the lagoon is great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It was excellent for a two-night stay to relax and do a snorkeling trip to the island. Only suggestion for improvement would be the restaurant. The a la carte dinner was expensive and with small portions compared to similar resorts that we stayed in along the trip.

Had been there for 14 days in May. Comfortable huts with A/C etc, lovely and attentive staff. No animation or anything else. A lot of guests are only there for one or two nights during their roundtrip. Restaurant good quality - we booked half board, during breakfast we had to choose our dinner, don't know prices of "a la carte". Big and clean pool with view to the bay. Separate small pool with hot spring water. Dive station of Extra-Divers in a good condition ,also with a kind and competent staff. It is possible to arrange day trips at the reception. Transit time from airport Denpasar ( had been picked there from hotel driver) : between 2,5 hrs and 4 hrs - depends on traffic. Next village approx 2 km distance
For us those days in May had been perfect holidays in Nature - but with a lot of comfort. If possible, we will repeat it.

Room Tip: Try to get Lumbung Suites 10 - 12 . Only guests of Mangrove Suites will pass in front of your terrace.

If you expect wild nightlife or loud on-site entertainment, look elsewhere. If you want a serene getaway, this is definitely the right place! In late April the resort was almost completely deserted, which felt somewhat strange, but also had its advantages. It offers everything you might need for a relaxing stay (apart from TV in every room and a loud disco) -- a spa, entertainment room with billiard table, TV, PC with Internet access and a book-swap corner.

There are also many short trips to book (Pulau Menjangan, various places on Bali, nearby Nature Reserve, even Java's Kawah Iljen). However, if you want a trip to Menjangan, you might also check at a nearby marina -- probably it's possible to get a better price. We booked that trip with the hotel and were satisfied -- it took about 4 hours including going to and from Menjangan, you get lunch box and snorkel/dive in two places. Even though it's not the best snorkelling spot I've seen (probably it's much better for diving), the fame is well-deserved. Shame about all the litter in the water...

We stayed in a Lumbung suite with sea view. It's a two-level 'hut' -- bed with mosquito net on the upper level, sofa and living space, minibar, etc. on the ground level. There's also a terrace and the bathroom with rainshower is absolutely fantastic!

Bear in mind that there's no sandy beach adjacent to the resort. There is an infinity pool (good for 'real' swimming, not only an occasional splash) with loungers and, on a lower level, jacuzzi fed by spring water. It's located on a small terrace with some additional loungers and overlooks the bay. There's also a jetty with wooden settee, very convenient for admiring the view and/or sunsets.

As indicated in previous reviews, food could be improved. It's not bad but you would expect a bit better from a 4-star resort. Also, the only drink that I ordered seem not to contain any detectable amount of alcohol!

All the staff, including waiting staff, were ultrahelpful and that's definitely on the upside.

*Some tips for those coming from Java*

- To save yourself trouble, make sure to withdraw money before leaving Java. There is no cashpoint in Gilimanuk (or it's extremely well hidden) and none in Naya or neighbouring resorts. The closest cashpoint is in Permuteran -- 7 km away.
- If you decide to go to Naya by public transport, have the resort's phone number handy anyhow. The bus will drop you off by the road leading to the resort and it is still a *long* way. Just call them and ask for a pickup. Or, alternatively, you can book transport all the way from Gilimanuk.
- 4 hrs transport to Denpasar is very efficient and more like a sightseeing excursion. It definitely made me want to visit Bali again! You go all the way across the island, mountains, rice paddies, etc. Very picturesque.
- Remember that Bali is one hour ahead of Java!

Room Tip: If you want sea view, make sure to mention it when booking, as not all suites overlook the bay.
