Strawberry Hill Hotel

This hotel is located in the Balinese mountans at Bedugul some 1400 m. above sea level, which means that temperatures are some 20 degrees year round.
Guests are lodged in cottages that are really beautiful with lots of nice details. Moreover the cottages have nice balconies overlooking the wonderful mountain scenery around.
But still some things are missing.
I can understand that there is no need for airco here but a fridge would be VERY welcome.
The cottages are very close to each other so there is not much privacy.
The hotel is right next to a very busy road so expect traffic noise.
Breakfast is VERY limited.
However the biggest drawback happened when we visited the restaurant to have some drinks and a meal.
The waiter proudly presented a large menu with a lot of items based on strawberries. After all, the hotel also operates a strawberry farm...
So my wife ordered a strawberry cocktail, only to be told that...there are no strawberries!
We were absolutely amazed, after all, in the balinese climate it should be possible to have strawberries the year round.
My wife asked for another cocktail and was answered: we do not have the ingredients for this.
When we asked him what he DID have he replied: BEER.

Just beer? yep, just beer.

Now I am a beer drinker so I did not really mind but I think that a place which advertises its connection with strawberries should do better. We were not exactly inspired with confidence in the kitchen and decided to skip dinner.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. It really does help us in our continuing efforts to improve things.
The addition of a fridge in each room is one of the things we are considering, and breakfast choices will be improved. Regarding the latter, it is a little difficult to decide on additions, because we welcome a huge variety of nationalities with their different tastes, but only a very few of each still, as sometimes we can be full (as when you stayed with us) and other times almost empty.
As for your restaurant experience, we regret this, and apologise profusely. We have ascertained the details of what happened that evening, and have taken steps to prevent a repeat. We would like to assure our future guests that we certainly will have strawberries at all times.

it is a surprise staying in the hotel that previously did not recommended by my Balinese friend. She said she was here ten years ago and testify that the hotel was not good. But now, woow.. amazing finally I found the best place to relax in Bedgugul hilly area, Bali.
The hotel exterior with Balinese style look nice and clean, the interior also nice combining the Balinese interior style and modern equipments. Cool air from Bedugul hills and nice garden view give calming atmosphere. The only annoying things in this hotel is come from sounds of vehicles passing by to and from Beudugul tourist area.

Room Tip: Choose room 25 for the best view of Bedugul montains

A perfect place to recharge your energy after a long adventure or clubbing. The place has things you may not expect to find in Bali, like cool weather all year round or tasty homemade strawberry jam served as breakfast! The cottage is so romantic with the mountain view from balcony, and is nicely furnished. I was indulging myself in cozy bed, enjoying mountain view and evening mists. Taking a short walk outside the hotel is quite unsafe in the evening, but it's worth the experience. You'll find tranquil Bratan lake, nice hilly land in the mists, organic vegetable garden and friendly local gardeners!

Room Tip: Choose cottages near the strawberry field for good balcony view.

We stayed here for one night as part of an Intrepid tour en route back to Ubud. The rooms themselves are individual bungalows with lovely little balconies. They are furnished with modern furniture and extremely clean. The bathroms have a large bath and shower with pretty pebbled flooring. There is also a very good TV which has BBC if you feel the need to check in at home.

Breakfast can be delivered to your room at no extra charge and can be enjoyed on the balcony. A very pleasurable way to start the day! The staff are extremely helpful, we blew a fuse in the room and the man from reception came to help us straight away, even though it was pouring with rain!

We ate in the restaurant that evening, which can be a little pricey, although the food was good. I would recommend the chicken satay which comes cooking on it's own hot coals!

If you visit this area, this is the best place to stay! Very nice cottages, the staff was frendly and helpful! The restaurant is also good.
Only one problem with the traffic all around! Try to get a cottage in the middle, because of the noise. But in the night is OK!

Room Tip: Get a cottage in the middle!

Excellently built and presented cottages... the rooms are compact, but very well thought and laid out. Lovely bathtub and shower in the bathrooms. Comfortable bed. Working wifi.

The main building/ restaurant has alot of timber in the structure which gives it a nice warm feeling. There is a great pool table and a dart board too. Food was very good and decent in portions.

Not a great deal for kids to do there - its not a resort, but just an accommodation place. Its a good place to stop in though if you're driving about Bali, and visiting the Bedugal area.

They have put their prices up in 2013 - used to be around $40USD a room... now I think its about $70. Was better value before obviously, but still it is a fantastic place to stay. I doubt you'd be disappointed.

Thank you for a very generous review.
Simply to avoid misunderstanding by other readers, we would like to point out that although our all-inclusive 2013 rates did indeed go up for the first time in 2 years, the increase was from USD 42.00 to USD 52.00, for a double cottage. Up to 2 children under 12 years of age still stay free with their parents. There has been a pro rata rate increase for extra beds for adults.
