Puri Sawah Bungalows

We recently had a very relaxing stay here with Liz, her husband Made and staff making us feel very welcome. Our upstairs bungalow room was spacious and clean with a lovely view of the rice terraces. We ate most meals at their restaurant - the food was very good, especially the vegetable curry! (Contrary to the Agoda website, you cannot book this accommodation through Agoda. We had to pay cash to the owner on arrival but we were reimbursed by Agoda. The Agoda price we paid was more than double the actual price.)

My husband and I had a good 2-night stay at Puri Sawah this March. We stayed in one of the downstairs bungalow rooms, and it was spacious and clean. Although the bathroom could do with some major sprucing up, it did have hot water and a western-style toilet. The verandah, complete with day bed, table and chairs, had wonderful views of the surrounding rice terraces, and on clear mornings, of the nearby mountain, Gunung Agung. We really enjoyed relaxing there, and soaking in the peaceful rural atmosphere. We also enjoyed visiting the beautiful Taman Tirta Gangga (water palace) that is within easy walking distance, as well as our 25 km mountain bike ride through the backroads and paths of the scenic neighbouring countryside.

Elizabeth, our host at Puri Sawah, and her staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant and the views of the rice terraces from our tables there were great! The gardens were also very beautiful.

I stayed there 4 nights at the top room which has the best view. Absolutely beautiful. The rice fields in the front with constant activity, the frogs in the nighttime and the gecko which shows its voice every now and then.
There is a nice small restaurant with good food and a very delicious mango or apple crumble.
Amongst the rice fields you can make some nice walks, variable in length.
With good and friendly staff this place is good value for its money.

We stayed here as a couple for two nights in the upper level of a bungalow. The reception/restaurant girls were friendly, smiling, and polite. After checking in to our rattan walled bugalow we relaxed on the large veranda overlooking rice terraces. We took a short walk into the rice fields and returned to a refreshing cold water shower in the open air "garden" bathroom. Later we dined in the onsite restaurant where once again the rice fields were just over a low wall from our table. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was good although I would not say it was excellent. Being set off the main road we found the location to be quiet and peaceful. We returned to our veranda before retiring to bed where we found the mattress to be quite firm, not unlike most we have slept on in Bali. Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay however I will offer one criticism or observation. Both evenings on returning to our room after dinner we found a large 5 cm long fecal dropping on the bed, both times in the same place. As the room had a vaulted thatch roof and was unsealed where it met the walls my best guess is that it was gecko or bird poop. One evening some bug parts fell onto the bed while I was reading. My point is that this is a somewhat rustic bungalow and this should be taken into account when considering a stay. My other criticism is that the pillow cases had visible mold and the mattress smelled moldy as well. I asked for and did receive another pillow case.

Room Tip: upper level for a good view
