Mudi was an excellent guide for our trek up Mt. Batur. He hired a second local mountain guide to ensure each couple on the tour had a guide to help out on the hike. We started at 0200 at the hotel and Mudi's driver took us and another couple to the base of the mountain. He provided headlights, water, breakfast (at the top of the mountain), and lunch, as well as a trip to the local hot springs. Mudi and the other guide were very attentive, and paid particular attention to the other female in the group who was having a bit of trouble on the hike (she was wearing sandals). He stopped frequently to allow us to catch our breath and ensured that we reached the top as the sun was rising over the other two volcanoes and the nearby lake. The view was absolutely stunning and well worth the early hour. Mudi showed us where he had placed eggs in the mountainside that were cooked by the volcano steam. He proceeded to pull out a beautiful breakfast from the backpack he had carried up the mountain--complete with a 4 person tea-set, coffee, jam (in the bottle), amazing bread, and fresh steamed eggs. We were all amazed that he had carried the full spread up the mountain for us. He also provided extra jackets that he had also carried up as it was quite chilly at the top. On the way down, he and the other guide took extra care to help out the other female that was afraid of heights, and helped us both down several slippery patches.
At the bottom of the hill, he provided cool fresh towels to wipe our faces and necks after the long trek, as well a cold soft drinks. From there we went to the hot springs to soak for an hour, and then made a final stop at a lovely restaurant overlooking a rice field below where we also tasted several types of coffee. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I highly recommend a trek with Mudi.
