“Relaxed atmosphere but could do with some improvements”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

We booked a week’s stay through scoopon, and were pleasantly surprised with the peace and quiet of the area. However there are good and bad elements to this place. If you are looking for somewhere secluded to relax and unwind, then would certainly recommend the Umalas area – and the Grand Akhyati would be a good place to base yourself IF you can pick up a special deal (I would look elsewhere if paying full price). The villas are private, well set out and the plunge pool was a lovely way to cool off from the heat however they were rather tired and could do with some work. The bonus about this place is that it really is very peaceful and laid back – there were times when we thought we were the only people in the place it was that quiet. A nice touch is the butler that comes to your villa each morning to cook breakfast. It is worth considering some form of transport if staying here, as the resort is a little out of the way. We had a scooter for our time here, and it was ideal for doing day trips and getting out and about for restaurants etc. I do, however, have some suggestions for management as there is room for improvement as I don’t think it reaches its 4.5 star rating. The breakfast menu could be improved with additional options, and overall quality needs attention as I found it average and boring after the first couple of days. I was also surprised that there was no fresh fruit offered as part of the breakfast menu, something that I have enjoyed and always found refreshing in other travels throughout Asia. Pillows and towels in the resort were not up to standard and could do with replacement. Especially the pillows which were musty, lumpy and quite uncomfortable. The couches in the open air pavilion could also be replaced or at least cleaned more often as they were worn and musty with holes. Only the bedroom is air-conditioned and while there is a ceiling fan in the kitchen area there is no cooling provided in the main area that you sit to relax / watch TV. Given the climate, fans of some description would have been a good idea for the sitting area pavilion. Staff were friendly and helpful on the main; however the checkout experience was not great. A glass had been broken by accident when filling it from the water dispenser; at checkout staff insisted that we pay 50,000 IDR. I could understand if we had trashed the villa or something like that, but a request to cover a cheap glass that was broken just seemed ludicrous especially given how much we had paid for the week’s stay and the amount they wanted to charge was equivalent to the cost of a meal. After insisting on speaking to the manager that charge was waived, but I found the whole experience left a bad impression. Warning in relation to the hairdryers supplied – use them at your peril. If we were to stay here again, I would be taking my own. The first one had to be replaced as it basically wouldn’t have dried anything, and the replacement one blew up in my hand (quite a frightening experience since it totally blew the end off leaving the plug still in the socket with exposed wires). So much for supposedly being checked out by their engineering staff. One other caution – if you are looking to hire a scooter I would suggest using one of the reputable businesses that you can find online. We arranged something through the hotel staff and in hindsight that was not a wise decision. Had been told the scooters offered where new and well maintained – when it turned up, we found it had certainly seen better days and the tires were bald and not safe – definitely NOT worth the 80,000 IDR per day that we were charged. A lesson learnt for our first time visit to Bali.

Spent three nights here on a Suredeal voucher (half price) and absolutely loved it! The villas are luxurious and the bed is incredibly comfortable. The staff are helpful and friendly. The spa is top-notch and I would highly recommend the couples massage. The only thing that lets this place down is the food - its average at best but with some many incredible restaurants only a taxi ride away, it doesn't really make any difference. Love the location - its a little bit out of Seminyak but its peaceful and relaxing and they can organise taxis to take you into the more bustling places when needed.

We booked on a scoopon and were pleasantly surprised. The villas are great, private and quite luxurious. The plunge pool is fantastic to cool off from the heat of the day.
Breakfast is cooked for you in your villa....thankyou to Agus, he did a great job each morning.
The villas are clean and quite well appointed with privacy.
We will most certainly stay there again
A huge thank you to Manik for fitting us into the villas after a change of plans, the enabled us to stay with our friend that we were travelling with.

Booked a two-bedroom villa which was perfect for a girls weekend away with a friend! We each had our own luxurious bathroom, with shower and large bath tub, as well as our own King-sized beds, which were heaven to sleep on.
Air conditioning works amazingly well.
The little details really made this place special. During our 7 night stay we had 2 different chefs cook our daily breakfast in our villa, always right on time and so polite.
In the evenings we would have someone arrive to turn down our rooms before bed, which was a sweet touch. They clear the rooms of any mosquitos, fold back the sheets and put the evening lighting on. The staff became good friends by the end of the stay, so lovely and humble.
If you need to visit anywhere on the island, talk to the staff who can arrange your own personal driver. A driven car shouldn't cost much more than the equivalent of $50 for a half day, or $80 for a full day - 10-12 hours no problem.
If you just want to go into Kuta, the resort can take you in their shuttle for around $5.
Room service is fantastic, incredible value for when you just want to relax by the pool. We're talking $5 burger and fries! It's really cheap.
There are a couple of close restaurants just down the road too, within a 2 minute walk away.
Would recommend Akhyati to anyone wanting a lovely place to stay.
BALI TIPS
Beware of the pushy market and craft salespeople everywhere. Kuta Beach is the worst...they swamp you on the beach and won't leave you alone until you buy something...but seriously don't buy anything otherwise you will only make it worse! I had 10 people pleading all at the same time and it totally ruined the beach experience. Watch yourself at the markets too, I made the mistake of letting a lady lead me to the back of her shop, then she demanded all the money I had in my purse. Luckily I was running low and I only had to give her about $15. She demanded I go to an ATM to get more, so as soon as I was on the street I just kept walking. Scary stuff for a first-timer who just wanted to enjoy the 'paradise'.
Always determine your taxi fare before you get in, and don't be scared to haggle. A $50 purse at the markets you could pick up in a back-alley shop for $5. So go in with a quarter of their asking price, and if they don't settle then walk away. Often they will chase you for the sale, and if not, there is a hundred other places all selling the same cheap rip off merchandise.

I booked this place online so wasn't sure what to expect however I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite out of the way but after the hustle and bustle of Kuta/Legian/Seminyak, it's lovely to come back to the peace and quiet and dive into my private pool to cool off. The Villa is wonderful, a real luxurious place, so clean and spacious. Breakfast of your choice is cooked in your room by staff member at the time of your choosing and was very delicious.

Room Tip: Location is great for escaping from the rat race but not so good if you like to be within walking di...

My partner and I recently spent 6 nights at the Grand Akhyati Villas and Spa and we could not recommend this place more highly. We stayed in an one bedroom villa and the price of the accommodation was exceptionally good.
The staff at the Villas were all extremely friendly and constantly bent over backwards to help us at every opportunity.
The villa was spectacular, and included a 4 by 4m private pool, spacious bath/spa, king size bed, cable TV and kitchenette. Each morning a member of staff came to the villa at the time we specified and prepared our breakfast.
The staff were extremely helpful with booking tours and activities and were always available to shuttle us to wherever we wanted to go for a very reasonable price. The villas are about 20-30 minutes from the beach resort areas but this suited us as we value the peace and quiet and relaxing atmosphere this place offered. It is close to Changuu beach and Tanah Lot.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back!

My husband and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Bali so decided to try somewhere new and found this little gem.
It is a great place for couples as it is quiet and secluded.
The villa was pure heaven, private pool clean and lots of room.
A staff member to cook you breakfast in the privacy of your villa each morning was a nice touch.
The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and quick to respond to any request.
It is a fair way away from the heart of Kuta but only 5 minutes from Seminyak and they do provide a taxi service directly from the villa's for a small fee.
Would recommend for those of you wanting some time away from the full on pace of life and coming to unwind and relax.
