We just came home from 2 weeks staying at the Melasti and had a fantastic time. We stayed in the cottage suites near the restaurant and they were roomy, comfortable and meticulously cleaned every day. The towels may not have been pure white but they were very clean. Our other friends stayed in the superior rooms up the older part of the resort and I have to admit they were not good. They asked to move to a cottage suite and were moved within the next couple of days. The hotel's position is awesome. At the restaurant you can eat the buffet breakfast (fruit, cereal, toast, egg station, pastry and juice) while watching the waves roll in. You are only metres from walking onto the sand. You can also have lunch and dinner there with meals roughly $6. The staff were great - friendly and helpful and even on my friends birthday staff surprised her with little cakes, candles and a group of them singing her happy birthday. We were initially worried about reports of money being stolen so didn't use the room safes but at reception you can use a safety deposit box for free and use your own padlock for added security. We were really close to shops and restaurants and recommend the Luna spa for great massages etc which is very close. Blue Bird group Taxis were always passing the hotel and you could catch a cab for less than $3 to get to the main hub of Kuta. Pool towels were really, really hard to get but for $4 across the street you could buy a Bintang towel which we ended up doing. Free wifi all thru the hotel but very, very slow but that never bothered us. A great playground for the little ones to play in while relaxing in the restaurant. We even saw people getting their room service delivered to them on the beach. We've been to Bali many times and have stayed in 5 star but we will definitely be back to the Melasti. Sure the pool may not be spectacular but the grounds are beautiful the cottage suites are great and the hotels position is unbeatable. Already planning our next stay!

Room Tip: Cottage suites 106 and 109 were great.

We have just had our first family holiday to Bali with the kids. We stayed in room 121 from the 14th to 28th June 2014. We will definitely stay again. The pools are fantastic and clean and the staff friendly and pleasant.
I loved the location as I was able to go for a surf every morning whilst the family slept and the surrounding shops where great.
The pool surroundings could do with a little make over and they could purchase more pool towels as they always ran out. I was happy with the rooms and the aircon was fantastic.
Breakfast did get a bit boring but you get what you pay for. I have read all the other reviews about getting money stolen but I just don't know how that could happen if it was in the safe. Only the manager has the key for it.
We traveled with family and friends and we had 5 rooms all up and nobody had a problem at all.
WiFi was not strong but thats Bali.

I am a Melbourne travel agent who has been selling the Melasti Beach resort and Spa for many years. I am frustrated when I read some of the Negative reports about this resort as I have had hundreds of clients stay here over many years (some are there at present) . I do not believe there is a better for value property in Legian. and I have seen most as I have been going to Bali for 30 years at least once or twice each year. Please note it is a 3star resort not 4 or 5 star. None of my clients have ever reported that things have been stolen from their room or safe. The suite cottages are older but the space in the rooms is fantasic and they have huge balconies. with the seperate area for kids to sleep or a lounge area if just a couple. The suite cottages are perfect for families and can easily accommodation 2 adults and 3 children under 12 at a very good price. Deluxe rooms are newer and are also very spacious but without the divided room. Pay the extra and stay in the Delxue rooms or the Suite cottages.. Superior and Standard rooms are Just that. Good value but older and smaller. I regularly stay at this resort and over the last couple of years they have put a lot of effort into improving the pool area, paving around the resort and other things. If you go to this resort understanding that it is a good 3 star resort you will be very pleased. I cannot find a better property on the beach front with this space and value for money anywhere in Legian or infact in Kuta or Tuban. Sandra Brasier Harvey World Travel Mt Waverley

Room Tip: If you want a cooler room ask for ground floor units. Keep bathroom door closed to keep room cooler...

This was our third visit to this hotel and boy the standard has dropped, The rooms are although clean are dated and fittings broken, fridges fail to work, toilet seats broken. Noise just reverberates around the room from all other rooms in the block. Worst rooms are pool view rooms due to noise. No one cares about the pool hours and staff certainly don't. Food was poor and uneatable. Breakfast was below standard. If you want a nice relaxing holiday don't go there, to put up with drunks and uncontrolled children.

Room Tip: Just don't go there

The location of this place is great - beach on one side, shopping on the other but that's about where the positive comments end. We chose pay to be upgraded because our first room was so bad.....and the extra dollars only paid for a tiny improvement. Noisy old shabby rooms, bathroom tired, fridge barely worked, limited tv channels, pool towell's not available till 10am and then they kept running out. The few staff we dealt with were pleasant but not passionate about their job which I could hardy blame them. The worst thing about this place though are the aussie bogan tourists......feral!!!

My family, partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in February 2014 and we loved it! We have previously stayed at this hotel 6 years ago and there are small improvements all starting to happen. Both times we have stayed with this hotel has been over the top fantastic!!

Our whole family booked 2 family suites located in the same building on the same level. This entitled us to the same balcony. The family suite has 1 large King Size bed and 2 pull down singles in a separate room. My partner and I do not have children and so the beds were not pulled down and chairs were there instead. However having the space was nice as we could unpack luggage etc. I would recommending staying in the family suites as they are not joined to the other parts of the hotel yet are a separate bungalow type building about 3 levels high. It is worth the extra $30.00 Aus Dollars.

The breakfast each morning was huge. A massive selection of fruits, savoury and sweet items. From english style to traditional Indonesian. The egg station was a massive hit. As Melasti connects to the beach, you could also eat your breakfast and watch the ocean and people stroll on the beach.

If you are after a big pool, swim up bar and 3 pools to chose from. This is the place to be. We mainly swam in the largest pool as it was close to our room. The pool is VERY deep at one end, however begins to get shallower as you keep swimming. There is also a area for the children to swim so they don't feel left out.

Out the front of the hotel, there is a mini mart where we were able to access many snacks, drinks and supplies for the day or night. Maybe even a cheeky cold bingtang to cool us down. This was a handy shop to have and I always look out for them when booking hotels as we constantly buy water etc.

Also near the mini mart is the Melasti Beach Hotel spa!! OMG if you love a good massage and don't feel like going into one off the street they are amazing in there. I feel as thought you benefit the most when you buy a package. Im pretty sure I sent 4 hours in 1 day there. The prices are completely different to street massages however it is a 'real' experience. If you don't feel like spending the extra $10.00 the girls across the street are just as good!! Don't be scared of their shop. It's got character.

Overall I shall return to this hotel on our many trips to Kuta, Bali as I feel that it is money well spent and in a fantastic location!! Love it!!!

Room Tip: Family suite is money well spent. Large rooms, next to pool and breakfast area.
