To escape the madness of Bali traffic and over-eager shopowners I would highly recommend the Legian Beach Hotel. Practically on the beach and only 15 min walk to either Kuta or Seminyak. We stayed in a room (102) and had no complaints although i could understand the complaints of noise if you had a room at the back due to its closeness to some bars...

If you can afford it then go for one of the bungalows set in lush tropical gardens. Really good breakfast and some nice restaurants. would recommend trying the Teppinyaki restaurant upstairs, the waitress and chef really put on a show and got us involved. Staff are really friendly also.

We spent a lot of time looking for a good hotel before going and were really happy with our choice! There are literally thousands of hotels of all descriptions scattered around this area and you could easily end up in a nightmare location

2 really nice pools also and plenty of sun loungers.

If you do decide to go to across to the beach then be prepared for the hawkers! It's a public beach and the hotel can only control what goes on in around their grounds.

P.S. For anyone going to Bali for the first time then you are in for a shock if you don't have the patience of a saint.....everybody wants you to spend money in their shop and a lot of them are over eager to get you into their shop! A firm but polite "no thanks" will do but you will repeat those words a thousand times a day...

Room Tip: A bugalow if you can afford it, if just a hotel room then definitely a room at the front of the buil...

The Legian Beach Hotel has been around for a long time - but I think that is a good thing. We stayed in a garden bungalow which was set in well established and beautifully tended Balinese gardens. The garden bungalows are not luxurious, but they are clean, well laid out and very comfortable with a day bed and chairs on the veranda to enjoy looking out over the gardens with your G&T.

The breakfast was included in the room rate and we were pleasantly surprised at the incredible range of food - especially the pancake and waffle station upstairs - yummm. Food by the pool was good value.

The LBH is located right on the beach and has lots of sun loungers (which is a nice change to some other hotels) and a raised deck area with more sun loungers under the palms and over looking either beach or main pool was very relaxing. The two pools and pool areas were very clean and inviting.

The hotel itself is situated adjacent to clothing markets, lots of typical Bali shops (no upmarket shops though) and restaurants. Traffic can get frenetic at times - but you would never know it once inside the hotel grounds. A tip if you are coming back from Seminak - ask to be dropped off at the Mandira Hotel which is next door to LBH and walk 50 meters and back to your room via the pool - it will save you a long tedious drive through Kuta due to the one way system that the LBH's main entrance is located.

I would recommend this hotel for a good value and very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden bungalow numbered below #30, they seem to be spread out amoungst the gardens more t...

It was our first time staying at this hotel. We've checked it out a couple of times on previous trips and it looked really nice, so when they were offering a special deal of 50% off their room price, I grabbed the opportunity. At the special price, it was fabulous, but I don't think it would've been such good value had we paid full price, as I think there are better value hotels in the same area. The room was lovely (a deluxe garden bungalow), but we had very noisy people staying in the room next door which spoilt it, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the staff are friendly, and the breakfast is fabulous. You can't fault the location. If they're offering 50% off next time I travel, I will stay there again, but not at full price.

Firstly for the first time ever I don't know how to approach reviewing a hotel. My wife and I have stayed in several Bali Resorts and hotels and this is the first time I have stayed at one and instantly wanted to check out and go somewhere else. Having said this I should explain that my wife and I are not loud, tattoo covered, heavy drinking Aussies and this resort seems to be full of Aussies that are our opposite so our issues with this resort are more to do with the people attracted to it rather than the resort itself. So enough of this and I'll focus on the actual resort and services.

The resort itself obviously has some age to it as the accommodation is typical of older style Bali resorts, with a mix of bungalow and apartment accommodation. The grounds are sensationally beautiful with some incredibly lush, tropical landscaping. Nature is everywhere with birds, butterflies, reptiles and squirrels going everywhere. We found this very pleasing and enjoyable.

We paid extra to get a Deluxe Garden Bungalow which is a room upgrade over the standard room. The room itself was small for the money we paid, the air conditioning did not work very well and the shower drained lots of water onto the floor. The bed was quite good although it was set out from the wall and the pillows kept disappearing down the back of the bed during the night.

Our room was actually part of a cottage sub-divided into a triplex, with our room located in the middle with connecting doors to the adjoining apartments on either side of our bedroom. My wife was instantly unsettled by this and we asked for the doors to be checked to ensure they were locked. No-one really took us seriously and on the second night we were woken from our sleep at 00:30 am with a stranger standing in our room. This scared the life out of us and hotel management to this event was complete [--] and it was alleged that we both dreamed the whole incident, they did nothing. However, the next day our neighbours had disappeared and workers started renovating the adjoining unit to fix a roof leak. So one problem ended and another began, construction!

As far as Bali resorts go, this one is very poorly run the systems here are not well managed and in my humble opinion the success of the resort really relies on that incredible personality of the Balinese staff. They really do try ever so hard to make people feel welcome and this is why we keep coming back to Bali.

The location of the resort is incredible with a fantastic surf beach at the front, Legian shopping at the back, the new Beach walk Shopping Centre a short stroll down the road and Kuta about a 1 km walk down the coast. We could not fault this location, Taxis are frequent from the side street, just make sure you get one of the Bluebird Taxis that use a meter as they are cheap and reliable.

We ate quite often at the hotel. The Teppanyaki Restaurant is a must we had a ball and the food was incredibly good. The pizza restaurant presented well but the pizzas were overly oily and we only ate here once. The Indonesian menu was simply brilliant and was some of the best food we ate on this trip, well worth a try in my opinion. The International menu was good and was average.

I've left breakfast for last as this was included in our package. The food was abundant and set out as a smorgasbord buffet with two omelette/egg cooking stations and a pancake/waffle station located on the top floor. Whilst the service starts out clean in the early morning the service is compromised as the service goes on. We witnessed people tasting food and putting it back, kids touching, tasting food with fingers, spills being scraped back into dishes and some people just walked the floor and grazed their way around the buffet. We quickly used only the cook on request foods. Interestingly, the hotel staff did surprise my wife with a birthday cake at breakfast one morning and suitably embarrassed her with a round of happy birthday and this was a lovely touch, plus the cake was very scrummy.

We did have the odd cocktail or two during our stay and I must say they were reasonably priced and very well mixed.

Overall it was the service staff that recovered our perceptions of this resort, they really did make an effort to make this enormous behemoth of a resort into something welcoming. Without the staff this resort would be empty and completely soulless.

When we travel, we like to know we are on holidays. We stay in great resorts/hotels that cater for our every need. While the Legian Beach Hotel had the facilities, we just didn't feel it was worth the money. We stayed in a Superior Room, which was in the 'building' (yeah...it felt like we should have paid $10 a night) with a view of dodgey backyards of the shops a street over. The noise from the street and pubs was constant. The room was small, and dark. The staff weren't very friendly (compared to our stays at Nusa Lembongan and Sanur) and after we checked in, the guy behind the counter pointed towards a building in the direction of the beach and said that is the breakfast building, and said we could now go to our room......which was where????? The food was great, but the beach is definitely not as it appears in brochures - it was full of hawkers, and be prepared to pay for a deck chair. It is closer to the hustle and bustle than we were informed, but it does have its advantages if you want to head out for cheap shopping, massages and food.

On arrival our room was not available, so we were given a luxury pool villa for our first night. It was amazing. The next day we had use of this room and pool till about 2pm, when all our bags were moved by the staff. Our Superior Queen room, was excellent. Beds were comfy, clean and were made every day. Rooms were spotless and the housekeeping staff were very friendly. We had breakfast included and this was a banquet fit for a king. It was varied, plentiful and safe. Service was fantastic and the staff were beautiful. Having breakfast on the beachside terrace every morning was a great way to start the day. We were 2 couples travelling together and everything was made very easy for us in every way, including splitting bills so they went onto our room accounts. Would definately recommend to anyone and we will return.

Stayed in this hotel for the first time and we payed for a beach bungalow and was upgraded to a villa with a pool and couldn't be happier with our stay. The villa was beautiful, quite and very clean. The meals we had were all excellent and reasonably priced plus the hotel is an excellent location. The staff were very helpful and friendly, couldn't fault the hotel at all.
